Gotta agree, as a community a lot of the older asset have more downloads, but are abandoned. Switching it back to listing by time as default would be beneficial.
Also losing all the PM`s sucks, there were conversations and work in there that is now lost
Be sure to check out the extension mod: Hots Custom Map support on NA and EU, Despite the name it greatly expands the roster of options for the default 3 races and is updated all the way to NCO.
Woo, you guys have been busy! I came into a truck load of work this morning, but I'm making my way through every single post and taking notes. As soon as I get a chance to write something up, I'll address all of the issues that have come about today.
Again, thank you guys for the feedback. I did see at least a couple of things I can address right now - PMs are not lost!
Because of how the new sites are interlocked we had to wait until all of the legacy sites were completed before importing all of the old PMs. This will come a little later - but as mentioned - nothing is lost!
That goes for any data that seems to be missing.
As far as the listing defaults for projects, we're already aware of this and are working on it :]
There's a lot more here - and I promise I'll get to it all!
Awesome to see that this site is being actively updated. I agree that there will be things that take a bit getting used to and some growing pains but I think it's off to a good start. I just have some minor suggestions:
I preferred the larger icons/thumbnails on the Maps page from the old site. They don't need to be huge, but a tad bigger wouldn't hurt.
This was already brought up, but I don't think the Rewards Program needs to be on the front page at all. Just make it a separate page or an option that you can get to through your profile settings.
On the front page, "Start Your Project" and "Browse Projects" link to the same site. Either combine the options into a single button or make their paths unique.
Not sure if the "UPDATE" icons under the "What's New" section are placeholders but something needs to be done about them.
Does anyone know what the "Paste" section is for?
And last but not least - Where is the Zerg love on the front page? ;)

OK simplicity is gone and now I need to take my rocket science degree out of the close to navigate and find the starts to see the current event or conversations or what type of asteroids and making it to earth. And..............maybe just to find out that my rocket did not made it to the Mercury line.
Current events board is gone current projects is gone now how in the world will i see the mapmaker campaign of the week or how is doing or even jayborinos plays of the week. OMG I wanted change on the crappy sc2mapsters web site not for Curse to CUT IT IN PIECES.
I GUESS this is one of those cases "you don't know how good you have it till is dead or have a few pieces left to play with".
New comers will not see any of this projects on first page. omg.
I dont know how well google will translate this to english but no Im not happy.
I'm coming here also with some minor things, I may have missed it.. but just to adress.
I've uploaded 2 new pieces of assets, and usually I link them to the main page, but I can't find the button to edit that page with the new stuff.
And also, I very accustomed to link images to the downloadable items and viceversa, now the images seem to not properly load, can't be clicked and the images I added also don't appear in the right order (newest first) and not as thumbnail in the overview thingy, while I did have the box checked.
Other than these little things I've come across, the site look cool and new and fresh!
Okay! I've updated the first post with a measly FAQ. Gearing up for the holidays with a lot of youngsters out of school already means BUSY BUSY days for me but I'll do my best to keep updating it as things become more common - and I'm still working on compiling a list of bugs and issues to take to the team.
Please be patient guys! I want to stress again, that just because I file an issue or address it, doesn't mean it will be changed, fixed, etc. It only means that we're looking at it and that at the very least we're aware.
Not to sound like a broken record, but you guys have been amazing. Some of you are very passionate about this community, and as far as I'm concerned that's the most important aspect to a community.
Unfortunately just before the holidays is when this site is the most busy because it is at the end of most study/work related obligations and just before Christmas. This is the time where SC2 fans have the time to do their hobby.

First of all, it is true that mapster was getting old and laggy. With this new deisgn, I'm thrilled to see what we can do in terms of presentation, maybe coding html or whatnot. I'm happy to see it getting some love and I'm sure in the long run, this will be much better than the old website. In hope that every suggestions get a little love too, here is what I came across. I will be navigating through the site a little more than usual to see how "good" or "better" it is. Technically, a good website should be able to reach almost every piece of information withing 3-4 clicks. Let's see if it's the case. So here are my points:
Negative/Suggestion:
I'm with all the people that reported that this site is way too bright.
Hyperlink text color too similar to normal text color.
When doing a Quote, where the Arrow is after the quoted person, the text | is not blinking, thus you lose track of it. Also, when you do the End key to go to the end of the text after the arrow, it doesn't go to the end, it get stuck kind of "in" the arrow and you can't write or move or anything. Basicly that arrow seems to create issues. And you can't copy paste it, it paste as ">>" Doing Clear Formating on the arrow makes it transform into the >> which works fine after.
Post Reply button text color is too pale-grey, it feels like if it was "locked". A normal black color would be better.
Everyone's Avatar could be slightly bigger to fit the area designed for the profile information next to every post. It got smaller than before and this image is a visual reference for everyone, much easier to look at an image to know who you reply to than reading the name... and it's just cool to have an interesting avatar that people can notice... not just a small clunky image.
I hate pop-ups, therefore I hate whenever chrome pops something to say something like this when it fails to embed a link: "Unfortunately, we don't recognize that video platform, so we can't embed it. You can still link the video by closing this window and pasting the link into your comment." A more simple red text that could appear in the same window telling it didn't work would be way enough and better.
I can't seem to post embed videos at all. I guess that's stuff that will be fixed in the long run so no stress.
When inserting an image to a reply, instead of Source, it should be url like the youtube insert. To me Source is like if I had to search on my comp the source file.
I find it too easy now to start a project. It feels like many newcomers will just press those Create a project button and create wastes that will lay down forever. Also, all those statistics are "cool" but useless, it could be more optimised in terms of clicks. I would even just remove that big create project button and leave it simple when you are searching through maps with the small Start Project button. It's easy enough.
I miss any kind of "Recent thread posts" section. It's a must for any somewhat big forum. In the best world, you could even "follow" parts of the forum and see any new threads in these sections specificly. That'd be awesome. Have a scrolling box with all new 10 or so posts and be able to do like "through all forum" or "favorite sections" etc. I'm sure this kind of stuff could be implemented, not in a single day, but still.
Search results could show more results in the same page and do like the old mapster highlighting the keywords used on the thread titles and have some text where this word is found. That was very usefull to easily know if the thread was what you were looking for. Now you have to check them all one by one and everything is blue... The old search would search through posts as well which is why it was sometimes way off, but that was sometimes helpfull. Searching through posts would be great to have. Or have more search options, like specefic dates between X and Y.
When doing a search, the "Next" button is changing place when you change page leaving behind "Prev" button, so the first click is on next, the next one is on previous... Why not just show both buttons but greyed/blocked when necessairy?
Curse "Rewards Program" to me feels like wasted space usefull for important information about the sc2mapster like new maps and whatnot. Not steam shit or money bait, please, leave mapster clean of all those money-ish thing. This is about a community that makes stuff for the community, not for money or gifts... I personnaly don't give a s... about this and truly believe it does not belong in the main page. Whatever is not associated with starcraft does not belong on sc2mapster except in the sections made for unrelated subjects.
Popular Projects could show more projects and actually be highlights from moderators. Like, having 20 projects shown there with a little more information about the project itself, a date from when it got highlighted, etc. And mod just decides when the time is right to add a new one, and the oldest get removed. This way you see the recent new-cool project that needs views.
The news page should be way up the main page and show at least 4-5 news or like the most recent with 4 older news under, smaller. The news in the old website had views because it was there right when you arrive, you did not have to scroll down all the way and click view all news. That's way too much effort for something that should be simple.
The Starcraft 2 blabla in the main page at the top does not belong there as well. People that comes here will automaticly know it's starcraft because eh, it's just about starcraft and that person will most likely know what is starcraft. So that's waste of very important space, as it is at the top of the page.
So basicly it should do: the mapster icon, the navigation bar, the cool image with artanis, that's fine. But then, it should be news, then something like "Highlighted projects".. and if you really need to add scrap, put it at the end.
I suggest that the navigation bar for "Forum" contains the main forums titles, just like for "Project" it countains "Assests" and "Maps", the forum could countain: "General" "Player Zone" "Development" and "Resources". Pressing Forum in the menu would send you to what it is sending you currently, the subforums would just be easier to access rapidly without having to scroll to the section you want to go.
The login menu in top right could only have "Preferences" for "My subscritions" (which is useless pretty much except if I don't understand something?) and "Change avatar", it's kind of easy to find it in the "Preferences" and you rarely change avatar, so no need to have a permanent link there. To the simplest, it could even be just "Preferences" "My threads" and "Sign Out".
The Jump to Forum button at the bottom doesn't seem to work much. And at first hand, it should not link you to another page, it should be something floating on the page you are currently for fast navigation.
Positive:
Multi-quote fonction is very nice. It will be very usefull for things like in Weekly terraining exercise where you want to give feedback to multiple terrains.
I like the new reply formating. No more hidden stuff you have to know by heart like how to post a youtube video, how to do lists, etc. There is a nice well designed automatic formating text box that let you do what you could before, and even more, more easily. The image rescaling when inserting an image is awesome.
It's cool that it now supports drag and drop features for stuff like images instead of going through a bunch of individual upload links... although I'd have to try it a little more to see if it works correctly.
I like the new image expanding when you click on attachments. Mouse over was great because it did not requires any clicks, but it was almost always off or hard to get the picture to show correctly. Although, you cannot do Right click and save as... which is kind of annoying.
In the Dashboard, there is a section named "Builds" does this mean mapster will host build orders? If so that's awesome. Really want that to happend. -Mapster, the best starcraft information source ever, even for builds. That'd be cool.
The Paste is cool. I wonder if it really needs it's own navigation link or if it could be incorporated to another page where that would be usefull?.. Also, support for GUI would be epic like this: http://peeeq.de/gui.php?game=sc2
Being able to track your post history and have notifications is just +1000000. That's something that helps alot for tracking recent actions and finding back threads you posted in.
As usual, I do wall of text. I give my suggestions and opinions on almost every details I come across that annoys me or that I find cool. I hope this gives ideas for the better.
Hey Mr Flamegoat it was nice of you to explain what add-ons were but we aren't asking for more information about the Curse promos, we're asking for changes to the front page. Thanks for answering but the front page feels very much like a cut-and-paste thrown together template. It's clear whoever made it was (a) in a rush, (b) doesn't have an eye for design, and (c) doesn't really understand who the mapster community is and why they come here.
These are the real issues that need to be addressed...
I can somewhat relate to this sentiment, but unfortunately we don't have any plans to change this currently. I did read that someone was working on a script or plugin, and that might be something we "unofficially" point to for now
FYI, I am working on a custom stylesheet to have old maapsters look and feel for those who care. You will need to install the Stylish extension on chrome or firefox, and the visit this site: https://userstyles.org/styles/136746/sc2-mapster-old-school
Its still a wip and its mostly just a color scheme change, not a major overhaul.
I do am glad MrFlameGoat is taking so much of his presumably occupied time to still try and make this site work good for us all again.
I cant imagine this to be a light load to do.
Especially not with all of us looking to varying bugs and stuff in each of our points of interest.
On the Front Page... I usually scrolled by it fairly quick most often and immediately went into the assets or maps section as I've been most active there. I do however must say that this big screen with the rewards thing confuses me, especially since when I've clicked it, nothing happened. (not sure where its supposed to take me)
I do love how the navigation now works on the sections in the header. Very easy and nice how you can now navigate into project-locations where I'm active :)

Oh and some people could actually get back their Avatar through the web archive. That's how I got my Mozaredlot again. I say some, because it depends if the web archive did a backup of their profile page. For example, you pick your user profile link ( https://www.sc2mapster.com/profiles/Scbroodsc2 ) and you put it in the search of: https://archive.org/web/ and if you're lucky you will get some backups and be able to get back your image. You get something like this: https://web.archive.org/web/20160527043909/http://www.sc2mapster.com/profiles/Scbroodsc2/
