Jayborino's stream is pretty happening. A lot of Mapster's campaign people are participating in the comments sections. CCI gets a new project every month. Poeple testing, leaving feedback. It seems the same traffic pattern to me maybe even up
I was at the theatre a couple of days ago and trhen this guy came and introduced himself, and turns out that we had the same name... and then he (jokingly) suggested we make out... I got up and sat elsewhere.
While mapster isn't as popular as other sites I think it's been doing okay lately.
Seems to me that there have been fewer posters lately. Would be nice to see more action on this site though, kinda demoralizing checking a board 12 hours later and the last post in it is still yours.
It's ok as long as you don't check current events tab, then it gets really sad as you start remembering all the neglection discussions we had over the years and realize how little of anything is going on right now. Except for campaign scene - it's blooming. I bet blizz will even add campaign support to bnet. In maybe 5 years, since that seems to be their timeframe for getting anything of value done :D

I'm not seeing this going anywhere unless campaigns which require poor or none data modifications as well as other maps that use mostly trigger/terrain modules.
A lot of people get lost even in previous editor features and Blizzard just keep adding more and more. It's hard to keep tracking on those realy. For team - maybe, but not for an aspiring individual.
Another story is that some patches broke your maps. And it doesn't matter if it require slight fix or huge remake it still is very discouraging.
I mean i get it Blizzard does whats best for their game, improving engine, etc. It's good. But for me it is too volatile environment to work in. I mean i can spend week or so making something crazy and cool because i'm not a Blizzard's Team 1 which can handle it for day. And what after something changed i need to go back and fix this thing i have spent a week working on? I simply can't afford to go back and fix my stuff cuz of time reasons.
I think there it goes. If you have team it is a great odds your project survives if not - bye, or make some garbage maps like footman frenzy. But the funny thing is if i want to play footman i'll probably switch to WC3 because there are more people out there. DEAD.
The number of "new" streamers that dedicate their time on sc2 begs to differ..
i feel it is proof that this is a viable environment.. a fair one? certainly not .. but still viable.
the day players / hosters will realize their critical importance, we will see arcade stream bloom and
finally (after 6 years) the pop system might become irrelevant...
i'm not holding my breath for it though
but if certain things were done.. it would happen
ps/joke(#hire me blizzard, the kids activision hire don't understand gaming culture, they only work with circular f cked up no originality/purpose and will never get you $)

Who wouldnt make out with u u sexy mapmaking beast!
First off, I think the SC2 custom scene popularity and SC2Mapster popularity are not tied together.
I have a decently sized viewerbase, they just do not transfer over here to participate in mapmaking discussions (some do, not many). The point though is that there is an audience for this stuff, it's just not presented properly to them. It's obvious that the Arcade's presentation has a lot to do with this... for some reason Blizzard took the least popular thing from BW, which was the laddering system, and focused intently on it for SC2 while leaving behind their tried-and-true long term viability in custom maps. Well, 'leaving behind' may not be the best choice of phrase, but they tried something new with it and it simply is not working nearly as well.
First off, they've said themselves that single player content is what most people buy the game for, yet there is no campaign support in the Arcade. Having a single player genre really does not help in any way unfortunately as there is no way to bundle maps. It would certainly be nice to see. Beyond that, I honestly think they do not understand how UMS maps in Brood War became popular from nothing - frankly, no one really does. Someone would make a map, host it, and it would organically spread outwards from there. All we really know is that it's that organic growth that perpetuated the scene. It was simple and not forced by Bnet. We now have that open lobby option, but it's either too late or there is still a missing link that allows for good maps to be found.
Anyway, these are the reasons this site is hamstrung. Players have no reason to look for us here because there's nothing in the game itself that would incentivize them to find this site. We are forced to try to generate interest and excitement ourselves because it is not baked into the game. If you've ever tried posting on the SC2 subreddit, then you know that this is a complete coin toss on whether people give a shit or not. Bottom line, I know there's an audience for this stuff, campaigns and the Arcade as a whole, but it feels like the game itself is working against us trying to get people interested. Best thing we can do is try to be enthusiastic on other forums to draw people over here. It will spike and dip in traffic, that's pretty normal.

nobody plays a 6 year old game. there are not enough players left to give the arcade momentum. it requires fundamental changes in order to work with the popularity system. If they would have looked at the APP store / Play store they would know something about making things visible and people would not just play angry birds 1 on sc2 (if you get the analogy).
Yes, I agree, that's basically what I said. Given all of these roadblocks, the only thing we can try to do is generate some sort of interest by ourselves though the Arcade will never pick up steam without major changes on the development side. No one is obligated to do anything here, I was just pointing out what we could do for ourselves. Otherwise, why even bother? Why keep frequenting here?
The people who have nothing to say except "Yup, the scene is dead, it's over, nothing we can do, Mapster sucks, the Arcade sucks" - they might as well just leave and let the people that want to be here continue in peace. It's as if they're only here to suck the remaining enjoyment out of something we still have fun with.

Would you say yes or no that we have any pull or significance to sc2 or battle net. If we wanted them to organize the arcade or support the gold mine that's not in use as well as many would like to be used better, would they listen to us at all or just let it stay at the state the arcade is.
So we are fine douing what we do but could we possibly expand what we do directly to Starcraft?
Gosh I know things have been slowing down but this is the all time slow. I don't think things can't get any slower other then stopping.
Huh. I was thinking the opposite.
