So the next map is set in the urban nightlife, complete with thuggish Marauders and rap music. You control a marauder named Cool Down, a cool guy who does cool things. There's a problem though...
...I can't figure out what to fill the map with. I've got the beginning and the ending hashed out. It's currently set up kind of like the Mechanic where its reminiscent of Metroid. The map looks like a downtown area with several structures and alleyways you can look around. I've got a parking lot, a small bar, and a totally not walmart. Basically I need some suggestions to get the creative juices flowing. If someone inspires me I'll work their name into it so that Cool Down can kill you. Feel free to be completely ridiculous as well, as this is Marauders.
A danceoff bar where you have to aggressively strike a pose at the right timing
A hospital full of motivators shouting at the patients
I guess Cool Down will have a frost-marauder skin? Then let him go into some hot area (an armory for marauder ammo and suits, a power plant fueled by lava or anything else) and freeze/shut-down the whole thing just for him to feel better
a standard barracks building that breaks when a big-ass marauder spawns
a racing track where you bet on the slowest car and have to destroy all others for you to win the bet
an ice cream booth with a giant queue but you get in line anyway and wait the whole time making pissed-off comments just to have the last ice-cream sold before your eyes
a science facility that researches the building-jump ability (dont know how you called it) with wrecked buldings everywhere
Option 1, since I always liked your micro maps (especially marauding, mechanic and now initiation) more than your macro maps (just personal preference though, as Sc2 has far too many macro maps in general)
Did anyone beated "Train of Doom" without cheats? Maybe i didn't understand how it had to be done, but at half healt it begins to oneshot your units and the waves, even with defensive structures become too much to handle... Plus the compounds spawns infested for free... Didn't beated it even with infested, it melts everything i have... I didn't even touched the train at the beginning of the mission so i gathered thousands of minerals and gas... But still not enoguh... Maybe i had to do a giant double wall of cannons / compound around my main base mining and then move everything on the other expansion... Don't still know if the map is completely broken or if i took a wrong approach...
The high health / low damage compound it's based on an infestable structure and from it i was able to spawn infestors / aberrations / infested terrans / infested civilians
What's the unit composition / attack timing / strategy to deal with the train ? Even big ass maraduer and armorauders gets melted when he reaches half health, and i don't even talk about the waves, so giant that no defensive walls can stand them
Is the mega wall of turrets strategy with 200/200 marauder army behind the strategy you used?
Plus a suggestion, can you make the main flying command center smaller? Or at least his selection ring smaller, it's so big that i can't select workers under it and sometimes i attack it for mistake
I used a few Devastator turrets with towers of power to help defend from the enemy waves. Mostly to buy time for your army, but they clear out the marines and medics on their own quite well.
Marauders, Roasters (for the marines), Thumpers, Roborauders, Big-ass marauders. Dump minerals on spaztastics and punk blasters. I also try to maintain 6 mecharauders for mining with about 4 MCUs to build.
If you play your cards right and stay on top of your macro, you should be maxed out every time the train does a lap after 50%. I lost about 50 supply every lap towards the end.
The screenie I attached shows the end. Note the amount of money i have and how much is gone from the map. I killed it two laps after the screenshot.
I tryed a full mine map + DefilerRulezCampStrats® and it worked very well, i just realized at the start of the mission that at my first try i was sure (for whatever reason) to be unable to build towers of power...
I noticed that Sniperauders now uses hellion's projectile instead of the old one
The few minerals under the excavation machines doodads aren't minable, don't know if minable
You should add a dialogue or a tooltip on this mission, suggesting the player to don't immediately attack the train and instead collect all minerals first, otherwise they would be condemned to a defeat and giant waves every minute
