StarCraft: Mass Recall
StarCraft: Mass Recall (SCMR) is a project that recreates the classic StarCraft and Brood War gameplay as well as the entire single-player campaigns within the StarCraft II engine. StarCraft: Mass Recall contains 68 maps, 59 from the original StarCraft/Brood War game, 3 that were hidden or deleted on various StarCraft supports, and 6 from the 1998 demo campaign.
You need to have StarCraft II installed in order to play the Mod. StarCraft II is free-to-play, you can download the game client from the StarCraft II Official Game Site.

FRIENDLY DISCLAIMER: This Mod and all campaign files are free. This means, all who work on Mass Recall are putting their free time into an incredibly comprehensive remaster of all of StarCraft and Brood War, including entirely new custom campaigns such as the Stukov Series and Enslavers Redux. Thus, there should be absolutely no expectations that bug fixes or new features will be released in any sort of timely manner. This is a "we'll get to it when we get to it" situation. Please be aware the modders here have work lives, family lives, and simply do not have the energy to maintain a lively work cycle to keep the Mod 100% up to date. We do promise we will release updates when we feel they are ready to be released. We hope that you understand our position on this.

Installation
“Uh... how do you work this damn thing?” – Marine
Auto-Installation
(for Windows, if you're using Mac follow the manual installation guide below)
For a fresh auto-install please carefully follow these steps:
1. Download the SCMR installer and the required files (see the "Downloads" section above).
2. Move all downloaded ZIP-Files and unzip the installer to your StarCraft II installation directory. The default path to it is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II\".
3. Run the installer.
4. After SCMR is successfully installed, use the shortcut on your Desktop to run SCMR.
Auto install video guide by DeltronLive
Note that this is for an older version, just make sure you have all the latest required files specified in the "Downloads" section above, otherwise the process is the same.
Manual Installation
If auto-install fails and/or you would like to manually install SCMR, please carefully follow these steps:
1. Download the required file sets (see the "Downloads" section above). For StarCraft: Mass Recall to work properly you need to download the Campaign Maps - that are bundled with the Main Mod (SCMRmod) and a "dummy" Cinematics Mod (SCMRcinematics) - as well as the Assets Mod (SCMRassets) and a Localization Mod (SCMRlocal).
2. Then extract all ZIP-Files to a folder of your choice. The extracted folder should look like graphic [1] below.
3. Now, open your StarCraft II installation directory where the StarCraft II.exe (WIN) or .app (MAC) is located. Per default this is on your primary C: drive under "Program Files (x86)" (WIN) or "Applications" (MAC). The standard paths to the StarCraft II installation directory are shown below.
Windows: "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II"
Mac OSX: "Macintosh HD/Applications/StarCraft II"
The StarCraft II installation directory should look similar to graphic [2] below. Note that you may need to create the "Maps" folder here if it does not already exist. Then move the folder called "Starcraft Mass Recall" (with lowercase "c") from the extracted folder to the "Maps" folder within your StarCraft II installation directory. The "Maps" folder should now look like graphic [3] below.
4. Next, move the "Mods" folder from the extracted folder into the StarCraft II installation directory (the same place as the "Maps" folder). Your "Mods" folder should now have four Mod files and resemble graphic [4] above.
5. While your newly placed "Starcraft Mass Recall" folder within the "Maps" folder should now look like graphic [5] below.
Other (older) manual installation guides:
- Step-by-step Installation Guide (English)
- Installations-Handbuch (Deutsch)
Alternative ways to play
If the above doesn't work for you, first and foremost make sure that:
- you have all the necessary files in the right directories
- you've set the correct paths for the shortcut
- you're running the latest version of StarCraft II
Alternative way to play without the shortcut:
- locate SC2Switcher.exe in the Support folder (your StarCraft II installation directory)/Support
- locate the SCMR Campaign Launcher file in (your StarCraft II installation directory)/Maps/Starcraft Mass Recall
- drag and drop the SCMR Campaign Launcher file to SC2Switcher.exe
If you wish to play while logged on to Battle.net, you will need to take the following steps:
- Launch StarCraft II using the Battle.net launcher
- Alt-tab to Desktop
- Launch StarCraft: Mass Recall using the created shortcut
Note that you can still save and load any SCMR map, as long as you're logged in.
Bonus Campaign - Enslavers Redux Installation
ZIP Download - https://www.sc2mapster.com/projects/starcraft-mass-recall/files/3246278
This file includes a new 30-mission extra bonus campaign "Enslavers Redux" by OmegaWeaponX! This series contains 4 episodes, with 9 unique maps per Terran, Protoss, and Zerg races, with 3 epilogue maps. Content and story is based on the original Enslavers custom maps in StarCraft and Dark Vengeance maps in Brood War. Features brand new dialog and story, missions, and enhanced heroes with their own level-up mechanics! Learn what happens between the major StarCraft episodes and the events leading up to StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty!
While this custom campaign can be played stand-alone by opening up the unique Enslavers Redux Campaign Launcher and launching missions from there, it is also integrated into Mass Recall via the "Extras" menu. In order to load it properly in for the Mass Recall Launcher to work with this campaign, follow these instructions:
- Download the above ZIP-file containing Enslavers Redux
- Go into your StarCraft II folder -> SCMR Mass Recall -> Extras:
- Within Extras, place your ZIP-file, then uncompress it there. You should have a folder that says 8. Enslavers Redux. It should look like this now:
- You've got Enslavers Redux installed! Now from the SCMR Campaign Launcher go to Extras and click on the Enslavers Redux menu panel. You can launch any mission from here or open the Enslavers Redux Campaign Launcher and launch missions from there!
Please note - This campaign has no unique audio for voices and as such it is required that subtitles are enabled in order to actually read what transmissions are saying :)

Troubleshooting
“I swear it's always some damn thing.” – Joeyray
Make sure to check out the auto install and manual install video guides also linked above. The end result in these videos is the same, regardless of install method.
Also make sure you're using an up-to-date version of StarCraft II.
Common issues:
- Param/Value/-Error: If lots of texts are like that, you may have a problem with your Mods: Delete SCMRmod and SCMRlocal, and re-download them from the links above. If it is only one or two lines (say, a mission objective), report it in the comments section (in that case, please specify which language you are playing in).
- Dependency cannot be loaded: The Mods are not at the proper place. Check that you have put your Mods (SCMRmod, SCMRassets and SCMRlocal) in the "Mods" folder, as on the pictures above.
- Unable to load map: Your Maps are not at the proper place. Check that you have put the episode files such as "1. Rebel Yell" in a folder "Starcraft Mass Recall", itself to be placed in "Maps", as on the pictures above.

In reply to FizzbiscutsMcGuffin:
The heart of the swarm licences thing means you have to go to file -> manage published in the editor and log in to bnet. This problem comes and goes as Blizzard alternately fixes and breaks things in the game each patch.
Hmm - what I'm thinking is since HT were never in the original mission we never set Psi Storm upgraded for them. But the AI should def use it. Good catch! Can you make the issue in the bug tracker we have? We'll be sure to address it in next update.
i m playing brutal level of zerg mission 2. but the high templer doesn't use storm. (even the MP energy was full 250)
it makes too easy game. can u check it please ??
As I see, old bugs are still there + even more bugs were added. "Good" work, "creators".
Some issues were closed by the reason "I feel like the logic we have now is how it was done in the original", though you even can't to count correctly (or even like in original) kills and other counters.
Moreover, in the original at least was visibility of harvesting resources by enemy units, in SCMR is the same stupidness logic as in SC2 - enemies had access to unlimited amount of resources.
So - on you place - I should never used as argument comparison with original game.
In reply to wrace0:
Every single post comming from you is just lame bitching, seriously. Most of us are fine with unlimmited AI resources because it makes things harder. If its too much then boo hoo just play on normal or better yet play SC remastered . You are not paying for shit so this guys don't have to "fix" everything you want to change. The"creators" have done a great job for the community and if you don't like it there is no need to mock them with every single post just grow up and fuck off.
In reply to SpaceCowCreations:
really wrong. I am about "Every single post comming from you is just lame bitching, seriously". There are very many posts (including ones in Issues) with the improvements including their code, though these "developers" can't fix them both without and with such code. And very small amount of posts with "lame bitching" when I see that bugs are still there + more bugs were added.
BTW: I do not see your posts in Issues, so you just eat all as is.
About unlimited AI resources - it is one more big difference with the original SC1 and I remembered about it only in my answer on the comment like "we can't do this because SC1 hasn't this".
About "If its too much then boo hoo just play on normal or better yet play SC remastered" - you are so funny. I tested Brutal difficulty and I had no problems at all, but I saw really cheating AI-behavior and their annoying behavior.
About "You are not paying for shit so this guys don't have to "fix" everything you want to change" - I am not only not paying for shit, I am not PLAYING in shit created by developers which can't fix simple bugs especially having the exact code for fixes.
And I returned here only because I obtained very many emails from here about closing or renaming my Issues which was created a long time ago.
About the last sentense - fuck yourself, stupid fanboy.
In reply to wrace0:
I'm one of the latest posts on 7.1 Issues and I don't have to spam Issues either because this is one of the most solid mods I've played.
If you think AI unlimmited resources is a bad thing then you shouldn't waste your time here, instead go teach game developers how it's done. If I recall correctly thats how most brutal dificulties work from Rise of Nations to CoH and many RTS/RTT in between.
Yeah, brutal is not a problem at all. But without unlimmited resources it would me even more boring bruh
Also, did you forgot this is a community mod? Mass Recall can be abandoned tomorrow and none of us can complain about bugs or shit they haven't fixed yet. These guys have jobs and things to do.
So not comming back uhh ? Close the door on your way out.
In reply to SpaceCowCreations:
the situation is much more simpler: no bugs or all bugs fixed = no Issues or Spam of them. :)
Moreover, initially there was counter for Issues, now only link, without counter (as I think, to do not fear new potential players in this product, though - as I can see in the section Files - the number of downloads is decreasing and decreasing, so - back to your last sentence in the last post - may be more and more fans "close the door on their way out" with such position of developers which is the same as one of official ones = Blizzard. Do you not think so?)
It does not matter whether this is a community or official mod - in both cases job is already done (in the official case - mod was sold) and further support under the question just because "these guys have jobs and things to do". It is sooner regard to the own position of developers - either you created very good product with small amount of bugs and you fixed all of them during small amount of time or you created something with the big amount of bugs which will be fixed never. Blizzard had already example of such product - SC1 which has the same bugs even in the Remastered version (I know that some of them can be "features", but it was possible to do possibility to give the optionality to play with or without bugs, but they did not do even this). SCMR has much more bugs. And distinctions from SC1 too.
About "Yeah, brutal is not a problem at all. But without unlimmited resources it would me even more boring bruh." - brutal without unlimited resources is required more impressive AI logic which is not in the possibilities of these developers. I can say even more - it is not in the possibilities of Blizzard. That is why I do not play anymore in the original SC1 and especially in SC2 - too stupid and cheatering AI-logic, no more. I did early exception for SCMR just because I can attach my submod and fix all bugs by myself, but it is so exhausting to modify submod after each update of SC2 and SCMR to fix new and new bugs. I better will play in / modify another good products (which are without strange and discontinuos updates) - say, "XCom: Enemy Within".
In reply to wrace0:
Oh waow mr game developer right here. So you actually think it's the same for modders and actual game developers lol. Modders can do whatever they want with their stuff and the only thing you can do is deal with. And blizzard didn't "fix" the bugs in SCR for the sake of the Korean esports scene and most broodwar veterans wanted the game to stay as is.
I haven't seen ever the "more impressive ai" you want for RTS so i don't why you have such expectations. Btw Xcom is also a "hard" game because it buffs the enemy and debuffs your squads not because ai is "smarter". And both xcom ew and xcom2 were full of bugs at release and some of it still remain. If you are enjoying that then theres no reason to be salty on this comment section, go play whatever you want and leave the mod page for the people that still play and support this mod. Simple.
In reply to SpaceCowCreations:
I have a saying "Don't feed the trolls".
In reply to wrace0:
You seem to be in some sort of vicious cycle, this level of pettiness is unhealthy. You can't go through life like this, everyone constantly telling you to fuck off. It might get better as you get older, when you develop some self-awareness and start to see the realities of life and things that are actually important.
The only issues you've brought here are your personal ones, what you're referring to were your suggestions and it was pretty generous of Omega to even give you the time of day and a reason why they were closed.
You keep comparing us to Blizzard which would be almost flattering if you weren't so over-the-top obnoxious and asinine about it. You act like we somehow depend on this mod's popularity and people's approval. We really don't. Everyone who is interested in a Starcraft remake knows about this mod, and the vast majority seems to enjoy it. You can try to deny it, but I'm quite sure that includes you. Personally I'm happy with where we're at, I couldn't give a fuck less how many downloads we get at this point. We're not trying to be the next Blizzard, we're not even trying to be a game studio. But keep bringing up sales figures and commercial products that are superior and more successful than this mod if you must, like that means something. On your insinuations that we're somehow trying to hide the amount of issues in the mod - I don't know what the hell you're talking about but I assure you it's straight up bullshit.
No matter how many pissy hissy-fits you throw here or how many words you passive-aggressively write in quotes, we're not implementing your suggestions and we're not looking at your xml dump again. You have the nerve to talk about how exhausting it is to edit your sub-mod? Go make your own "very good product with small amount of bugs and then fix all of them in a small amount of time", you entitled brat. Do it from scratch and without pay, then listen to people like you insist you cater to them while trying to shame you into implementing whatever they come up with.
I'm not interested to start a conversation here either about perceived inconsistencies of this mod or your reasoning for your bullshit suggestions. I'm just sad you decide to do this to yourself. I don't know what's going on with you, maybe you feel the need to just lash out at anyone. You can keep doing it but I hope that at some point you realize it won't accomplish anything besides increasingly making you look like an ass. If you'd be able to stop caring about this mod, I wouldn't mind in the slightest.
Also, Brood War AI had unlimited resources. It's not some big secret, either.
In reply to SpaceCowCreations:
About "So you actually think it's the same for modders and actual game developers lol. Modders can do whatever they want with their stuff and the only thing you can do is deal with." - and what is the difference between them lol? "Actual game developers" also "can do whatever they want with their stuff and the only thing you can do is deal with." You are so funny. :)
About "And blizzard didn't "fix" the bugs in SCR for the sake of the Korean esports scene and most broodwar veterans wanted the game to stay as is." - do you know the word "optionality"? No? I see this. It is not problem to fix the bugs in SC1 and made this fix as option for ones who is not from ones you said. They didn't this. Why? Just because they "can do whatever they want with their stuff and the only thing you can do is deal with." :)
One more possibility I liked in SCMR (at least I thought initially that there is such possibility) is the fact that it is fan-mod for the Blizzard game because the last ones do not want to do the same one by themself. And now what do I see? Exactly the same behavior of "developers" as one of Blizzard - "we will do only things we want and fix the bugs we chosen". Pfff. In such case it is better just to play in SCR - at least this version is EXACTLY the same as original SC1.
In reply to SpaceCowCreations:
About "I haven't seen ever the "more impressive ai" you want for RTS so i don't why you have such expectations." - yeah, you are right. 20 years passed after the start of 21st century, but the AI logic in the games is still like in the last decade of 20th century. ;)
About XCom EW: I did not say that AI is "smartest" in this game. Yes, bugs were at release and some of them are still remained, but it is already finished product and it is not on the base of another product with discontinuous updates (like SCMR - on the base of SC2), so it is not problem to fix remained bugs (hm, they are not so important in comparison with SCMR + all counters in the game work fine and correctly - again in comparison with both SCMR and SC1) "once and for all" instead of fixing them time by time. Moreover - in comparison with SC1 and SCR - XCom EW uses Unreal Engine for which there is very good editor (exactly, viewer; to edit its files one need to know something like assembler) with very nice code. I.e. the same situation as with SCMR.
About "hard" in "XCom EW" - the only modifications for difficulties are these:
1) more enemies on maps, slightly changes for types of units in squads;
2) more HP for enemies, less HP for your soldiers (hm, -2 for the last difficulty);
3) slightly more damage for enemies, slightly more critical chance;
4) less districtions for enemies (for example, for the "maximum number of aliens that can be attacking you at one time" - 5 for normal, unlimited for hard and classic);
5) increased value of GrenadeSlider for ALL units.
It is for mobs. For gameplay - increased cost of some items, decreased amount of funds.
Compare this with the "hard" in SCMR ("brutal") or in SC2: in the first one - much more greater increase of resources (which are not harvested at all) for much more amount of mobs and their types, in the second one - unlimited amounts of hybrids (cheating units).
In reply to SpaceCowCreations:
BUT: the most important distinction - XCom gives access (through configuration files) to the most of its parameters for the main gameplay (in the concept of SC - to the parameters of the main campaign) + (as I said early) there is editor for engine of this game, so anyone can modify any of parameters of the game or even to create its own mod for the MAIN gameplay / campaign (not just additonal maps as in SC2). That's why this game is example of the very good game.
In reply to SpaceCowCreations:
About "If you are enjoying that then theres no reason to be salty on this comment section, go play whatever you want and leave the mod page for the people that still play and support this mod. Simple." - when you will finish writing your comments or will become again fully inadequate like baby above (which crying "it is the attack of the troll! SOS!! Help me, please!!!" - i.e. it does not know the meaning of this word - "troll"), I will stop wasting time on you and will spend it on much more useful things. :)
In reply to karlprojektorinski:
very nice - "I wrote something bad with the big amount of insults, but I'm not interested to start a conversation here because I fear about what you will say in answer".
I will say (repeat) just several words to point the evident violations in you logic / mind:
1) I "get older enough" already;
2) Omega gave the same reasons as Blizzard do usually - "we didn't do something because we do not want to do this";
3) about comparison with Blizzard - hm, I see it is another fanboy which does not know nothing wrong about them; very funny;
4) about "the vast majority seems to enjoy it" - 10k downloads for the game with the millions of fans do you consider as "vast majority"? I can say you so: one of my products is used by at least 600k UNIQUE users (it is only official numbers). This product (SCMR) has 1200k downloads (of different versions), but no more than 60k unique users (version 7.1 - no more than 11k unique users). So all your insults using this argument are so pretty.
5) about "No matter how many pissy hissy-fits you throw here or how many words you passive-aggressively write in quotes, we're not implementing your suggestions and we're not looking at your xml dump again." - at last, I found this. This is the only reason: "we're never looking at your xml dump just because we even do not understand it and we do not like when someone show to all that we are not so clever".
6) about "You have the nerve to talk about how exhausting it is to edit your sub-mod? Go make your own "very good product with small amount of bugs and then fix all of them in a small amount of time", you entitled brat." - you do not understand, as I see. I am fixing time by time bugs in the main mod (SCMR) which you add again and again, so my submod make your product without bugs and with in a small amount of time. I.e. I do (did; again and again) the things you can't do during several years.
7) about "Also, Brood War AI had unlimited resources. It's not some big secret, either." - as I said already, in the original SC1 there are no such feeling.
In reply to wrace0:
It's mostly because this type of conversation is embarrassing for everyone involved, and it takes someone deep up his own ass to not see that.
You got me. This was several years ago, but I think what might've happened is I looked at it once, then never bothered to look at it again. Your first bitch-fest about it pretty much guaranteed I was never going to. There's your big "gotcha". You're still here years later bitching about it, but keep thinking it's us you're embarrassing here.
It's unfortunate that you have to rely on our mod and our suboptimal updates to play with. You could of course ignore our updates completely and work on a much better, very good product of your own with only small amount of bugs and then you would fix them all in a small amount of time. But that would be exhausting, wouldn't it. So instead, spend another day writing five disjointed essays here so you can feel like you're winning an argument.

I did it already and already created + tested several such very good products, also as I fixed and tested early all bugs in your product many-many times. But - in comparison with your product - another ones do not have such wretched developers with too big ambitions and too low IQ as SCMR has, so - in the case of the last one - once I just asked myself - do I want to use the product of SUCH developers at all? And I answered myself: nope. The potential of this product is great, but not with such developers. So I just said (like ones said in my address above): fuck off developers and fuck off your product. That's all. Bye.

A fatal flaw is you have a complete lack of how to interact with other human beings. The problem with many technically talented individuals who have WAY too much time on their hands to respond endlessly on a forum like this is that no one ever likes them because they make asses of themselves. Elementary social skills are just as important as fixing whatever bugs you've reported - in fact, they're much easier to implement too! Thank you for teaching the masterclass on this dynamic.
I would wager a LOT of money that this is not your last comment because you just can't help yourself.
By saying this though, I'm graciously giving you an out to feel like you've "won" by actually not responding, which will make us all very happy - win/win!
At the same time, I've shown my hand by explaining the tactic, so now the pressure is really on for you.
Where are the classic versions of the Carrier and ultralisk?
The classic hydralisk looks really good.
