Should be pretty simple: open up the units' properties (select the unit(s) and press enter). In the AI tab, there are difficulty-specific rebuild settings which you can set to "never".

posted a message on Starcraft: Mass Recall 7.0 - Brutal Difficulty Testing - Help Wanted

The Starcraft: Mass Recall 7.0 release is getting close, and we're looking for a few brave souls to try out the new brutal difficulty setting for a short period of time. We want to get this started ASAP so you can expect to have access to the files sometime this week. Be advised: this difficulty is meant to be unforgiving and won't be for everyone. You should expect to have a hard time. We would hope you have previous experience in Starcraft 2 at the very least, preferably also in Mass Recall or Brood War. Having completed or even played some of MR on hard difficulty is certainly a plus.

We're looking to have you test one of the first three campaigns. We won't expect you to grind through every map from start to finish, so don't fret. Naturally, we would appreciate some level of feedback afterwards to answer these questions:

    • Are there maps that don't give you a chance? (you get crushed early on, you've tried a couple of times and don't see any significant mistakes in your play)
    • Are there maps where you run out of steam? (you can make it to 15-20 minutes but can't seem to make any progress with the resources available to you in the early/mid-game)
    • Are there wild difficulty swings within maps? (for example, no room for error in the first 10-15 minutes, afterwards the AI doesn't pose any threat)
    • Are there difficulty swings within the campaign? (some maps being noticeably easier/harder than others)
    • Are there any other issues affecting gameplay?

Again, we're evaluating the brutal difficulty here specifically. If you're interested, send me a PM and state your preferred race/campaign, if any. I'll get back to you with more details sometime this week. That is to say I might not respond right away but if we're already full, I'll try to notify you ASAP.

I did this recently... check the actor events. If I recall correctly, the actor, when created, does a model swap according to your graphic settings. Delete these events.

    Quote from GlornII: Go

I think the fact that they are working on support for something that no one has ever asked for, and then proceeded to not use, kinda puts into perspective their priorities.

Nothing any of you suggest will matter, if it did, they would have simply put the effort into looking at the literally thousands of suggestions made.

Chase that carrot though, its getting closer.

I would imagine their priorities are exactly what they should be, which is whatever their dev / DLC team might want. I'm sure they're looking at thousands of suggestions but mostly just for ideas instead of trying to do exactly what we want.

That doesn't mean people shouldn't go and voice their opinion even if it's just yelling at Blizzard for the hell of it. They're inviting you to do it!

posted a message on Mass Recall v6.0 Silver

    Hey Gna,

I'm a big fan of your old Carrier model and this new one looks promising to say the least. We're trying to release an update for Mass Recall in a couple of days and I'd love to take a closer look at the model before we do.

How would you feel about sharing this if/when it's ready enough?

posted a message on Too many remakes?

Just to echo a few comments - people create what they want to create, it's up to the players to decide whether they'd rather just play the original or not. I can't deny that doing a remake of something widely known is initially going to attract way more attention than doing something that's more of your own thing, but I very much doubt that people are doing remakes for popularity or "instant gratification". There's no instant gratification, people are just going to hate you for taking something they like and turning it into some kind of half-assed false idol.

At the end of the day, how original can you really get with the Galaxy Editor without dedicating your life to it? If we're talking about creating a, say, original campaign, what is that? Original story, original gameplay, original units, original models/textures, original races with original backstories. And of course you'd want all of these to be good. That's an insane amount of work and dedication one needs put in, so it's no wonder people aren't doing all of this, especially as their first project. I'd much rather have people take an already established concept / storyline / whatever, add their own thing to it and focus on improving other aspects of it rather than the typical route of start a massive project and hype it up as the best thing ever way too early, never to be heard from again.

Basically, play something, get inspired by it, take the good in it, add more good of your own to it, and with a decent amount of effort you just might have something awesome. Yeah, that'd be my message for aspiring mapmakers. I mean, that's what actual companies do, and none of us are getting paid.

Whether or not the Blizzard Arcade actually rewards recreating the same stuff over and over and discourages new and creative concepts no matter how good they are and is generally a bunch of bullshit, that's another thing entirely.

Some models, generally for larger doodads, have an occlusion setting on by default causing them to go transparent so as not to have them obstruct the view too much.

To change this, check the model for the actor/doodad in the data editor, there's a field named "occlusion". Set it to none.

    You already win the thread.

Coincidentally I usually have my night playlist on while mapping, DJ Krush, DJ Cam, DJ Shadow, Tom Waits, The Velvet Underground and obviously Regina Spektor just to name a few. Terraining while listening to good music is pretty great. I like a lot of punk rock, but that doesn't always work as well with the galaxy editor.

    Butthurt much?

Simple complaint, take it into consideration.

Ah yes, the "u mad? u butthurt?"-part of every thread. I really don't know what that's supposed to mean anymore.

Sure, I get that there's a somewhat reasonable point or "complaint" in there in the middle of all the obnoxious nonsense, but I'm not going to touch it in this thread. I tried to not come here, I really did, but couldn't do it.

And Snyder, well, that's too bad. You did directly address the authors in the OP, but that's cool, paying attention would require some effort from your part, and you're a busy man, after all. In fact, I should try to do the same and not pay attention to this thread, at least until it has some kind of a purpose.

EDIT: Look. I don't mean to sound like I can't take criticism, or that I dislike anyone who disagrees with me/doesn't like the remake or certain things in the remake. Just this idea that we'll do whatever people tell us to do because it's not about what we want and clearly we have the time to do it... is annoying. Obviously we're not getting paid to do any of this and we're doing this primarily for our own amusement. We're selfish like that. I'm all for feedback/criticism/suggestions, all of that's great when presented in a way that's, you know, less obnoxious. And even then, don't take it for granted that we'll always necessarily give a shit.
