    posted a message on SC1 Episode 3-5 Are not right

    @SnyderGuy: Go

    Okay Chief, we'll get right on that... wait, never mind.

    Are you really going to tell someone who you for some reason assume to be one of the authors (which he's not) that it's not about what he prefers? I don't particularly like the term "gamer entitlement" but if there ever was such a thing this is it right here. I mean, what the fuck, dude? Do you see a price tag on these maps? Are you hoping to achieve something with this "I refuse to play"-declaration thread? You could've posted a comment on the project page like everybody else.

    And believe it or not, we actually also have other things to do, we don't spend every waking moment fulfilling everyone's wishes for the remake.

    By the way, episode 5 has exactly the same amount of original Starcraft sounds as episode 1.

    posted a message on About single player content

    Warcraft 3 had much more single-player content for sure. Blizzard gave us this thing called Campaign Editor, which was a simple but effective way of linking multiple maps into a proper campaign. I probably had (still have) about 20 of those things, fan-made campaigns, and I would totally geek out and play through all of them plus the Blizzard campaigns in chronological order. Good times.

    Of course, that's when Blizzard allowed us to have local content/local hosting and everyone's mission in life wasn't making the front page of The System. As for the complexity of the editor, I think the editor is great and has a ton of potential, but with the whole custom game system thing I also feel it's kind of going to waste.

    So basically, the same old story you've read a million times during the past year and a half.

    Thanks for the support, everyone. I'm still amazed by the overwhelming response to this project. We will try to learn from all this feedback and hopefully continue to improve the remake in the future. And yeah, we might add an RTS view to the installation maps as an option. =P

    @kudlatytrue: Go

    Yeah, I'm aware of most of those issues. Let me just address the medics. From the Starcraft wiki:

    "During the Guild Wars the Confederate experimented with adding Colonial Fleet medics to front-line infantry units.

    Marines suffered high casualties, but retained their strength through aggressive recruitment practices. By the Great War, Confederate medics remained at bases to care for wounded soldiers but were sometimes attached to squads/platoons. Confederate medics had a distinct appearance (white armor with a red cross). Raynor's Raiders medics operated on the front lines, at least on some occasions."

    Just because the unit was added in Brood War doesn't mean medics are UED-only. Valkyries should probably be removed, though. =p Brood War is pretty much regarded as perfectly balanced, and I feel that without medics, the Terran infantry is kind of weak (and stimpacks pretty much kill your army). I'd say that the story/gameplay emphasis is about 50/50, so there's the whole gameplay aspect involved as well.

    @mnadeau1992: Go

    I actually did try Orcs & Humans, just out of curiosity. That was after Warcraft III was released, I believe; a little too late, and it didn't really hold my interest. I do remember that the controls were terrible. =P I did play a Orcs & Humans remake in WC3, "Fall of the Lion" by... Luthien I believe? That was pretty cool.

    Edit: sorry, didn't mean to derail the thread like this <.< good luck with the project!

    They're both awesome, but that would actually be incredibly nostalgic. I'd play it just for the music. Also, 9 unit selection, now that was hardcore!

    posted a message on [YouTube] Husky plays SC1 Campaign Remake!

    Hey, no need to sugarcoat your opinion like that... and what's wrong with melee maps now? The SC2 campaign was pretty good but I personally would've liked some basic SC1-style missions added in there, instead of all those "here's where you build Medivacs to pick up guys from rooftops" or "here's where you build Battlecruisers 'cos other units can't go in there". A lot of people probably prefer that but the missions just felt gimmicky to me.

    I'm not gonna argue that the Jacobs mission is even close to optimal playability, but hey, at least it's not a melee map, right? The RTS mode could definitely be added as an option. Is the pure A-click/right-click gameplay that much more interesting, though?

    EDIT: Ultraling beat me to it, but yeah. What he said.

    EDIT 2: Oh yeah, about the talking portraits, it's made to be a stupidly time-consuming task in the Galaxy Editor, and finding the right animations is indeed a pain. The portraits would probably still occasionally stop talking mid-sentence, and it would look awkward.

    Oh my god! I just removed Liberty Multi from one map and gave it a quick test, and the upgrade that was broken was now working. I really need to get some sleep but if all goes well I'm definitely doing an update tomorrow. Thanks so much Mav, you're a genius! On that note, night night.

    Whoa, I'll remove the dependency and see if it helps. Thanks, I'm a bit of a tourist with the data editor I guess. It just feels so random after the patch, especially with the upgrades & other command card related stuff.

    Uh, the mod uses just Liberty (mod) and Liberty (campaign). The maps themselves use SC1mod, Liberty, and Liberty Multi, in that order. I kind of recompiled the mod. At this point I'm thinking that completely rebuilding the mod using your SC2BW isn't out of the question. If I (and/or Ultraling) end up doing that, I should probably do it right this time. I'm kind of hoping that the next patch fixes some of this stuff, though.

    Grats yourself, dude! Since you're at least 33% of the remake. By the way, seeing as you're more experienced with the data editor, are you having any problems with it since the patch? Maybe I just don't know what I'm doing, but it seems that any data editing I've tried to do after the patch just refuses to work.

    Holy shit... all those little bugs are bothering me even more now. If only the data editor would work...

    Keyeszx: No cinematics, as the file size might've been too much. And no, you won't find this on battle.net, main reason being the restrictions on file size and number of maps. Not to mention I'm pretty disgusted by the whole forced publishing system.

    Whoa, a video would indeed be awesome... if anyone wants to do one, well, sounds great to me! I'll leave all the movie making and uploading to you guys, feel free to do your thing. =P

    And Aegis, the mod is right there in the downloads (SC1Mod). I've tweaked it a little bit but it's basically all MavercK's work. If you want to use it, that's totally ok by me. You probably should be asking MavercK instead but I don't think he will mind either.
