SCMR Pages/Options

Options

The following explains more in-depth about all the possible options you can utilize within SCMR via the SCMR Launcher:

Gameplay

  • Difficulty - Toggles the default game difficulty.  This can be changed before the start of each mission.
    • Easy - Around or a tad easier than original Starcraft difficulty.  Low unit compositions, little enemy AI ability usage.  Recommended for players who just want to quickly play through the story.
    • Normal - Around or a tad harder than the original Starcraft difficulty.  Average unit compositions, some enemy AI ability usage.  Faster waves than easy. Recommended for most players.
    • Hard - Much harder than the original Starcraft difficulty.  Large unit compositions, heavy enemy AI ability usage.  Even faster waves than Normal.  Some waves contain additional enemies not in Easy/Normal.  Recommended for those players who want a more challenging gameplay experience.
    • Brutal - Extremely harder than the original Starcraft difficulty.  Very high unit compositions, maximum enemy AI usage.  Wave speed may be around or a bit faster than Hard.  Most maps contain additional "bully" type enemies that were never before seen and/or additional off-map enemy spawn waves.   (We recommend playing Mass Recall on Hard first before attempting this difficulty!)
  • Speed - Toggles the default game speed.  Of course, this can be changed within the in-game option menu at any time.
  • Brood War Tech - Allows Episodes 1, 2 and 3 to use some Brood War-era units and/or upgrades such as Medics, Charon Boosters, and Lurkers.  Some units, such as Valkyries, may not be available due to story/canon constraints.
  • Hidden Maps - Accesses two additional Terran maps in Episode 1 that were never released:
    • Biting The Bullet - Available after finishing Terran07.  Raynor and Duke must take the fight to the Zerg.  Meanwhile, Raynor and Tassadar's first meeting is revealed.  Features Duke as a Tank hero.
    • Operation Silent Scream - Available after finishing Terran08.  Raynor and Kerrigan must destroy three separate Confederate sites with limited resources before placing the psi emitter to lure the Zerg to Tarsonis.  (Note: The Emitter placement dialog was originally heard in Terran08 because this mission was omitted in release.  If Hidden Maps is enabled, the dialog will be heard here as it was intended, since they are actually on Tarsonis.)
  • Classic Audio Sounds - Turns many sound effects from SC2 to SC1 versions.  Options are:
    • Weapons - Turns all unit/building weapon firing effects to their classic SC1 version.
    • Buildings - Turns all building sounds when clicked to their classic SC1 version.
    • Abilities - Turns all ability sounds when casted to their classic SC1 version.
  • Cinematics - Allows Starcraft: Remastered FMV cinematics to appear as they originally did.  If this is disabled, an in-game cutscene will play instead.  Note - Requires the SCMR_Cinematics mod to play!
  • Interludes - Allows Starcraft: Remastered story artwork to appear behind pre-briefing text that occurs at the beginning of every campaign, and throughout Episodes 1/2/3.  Also appears the end of Episode 3 and 6.
  • Extra Hero Abilities - Grants every playable hero at least one additional ability that they did not have originally.  The full list of extra abilities are as follows:
    • Raynor (Vulture) - Raynor Spider Mines.  Can place unlimited spider mines, but has a cooldown between each placement and only 3 mines can exist at any given time.
    • Raynor (Marine) - Toss Grenade.  Throws a grenade at a target to damage enemy units.  Limited quantity.
    • Raynor (Hyperion) - Overcharge.  Greatly improves attack speed at the cost of self-damage per second.  Can be enabled/disabled at will.
    • Sarah Kerrigan (Ghost) - Snipe.  Deals heavy damage to any organic/infantry unit.
    • Duke (Tank) - Javelin Missile.  Fires a single missile at a small ground targeted area, damaging anything nearby and slowing victims down.
    • Duke (Norad II/III) - Missile Pods.  Fires a slew of small-damaging missiles at an aerial target, damaging aerial enemies in a wide range.
    • Kerrigan (Infested) - Implosion.  Lifts a mechanical enemy up, disabling it briefly, before dealing heavy damage to it.  Also gains a low-damage ranged psi attack.
    • Fenix (Zealot) - Charge.  Boosts speed towards an enemy ground target.
    • Fenix (Dragoon) - Overload.  Rapidly regenerates shields to full but costs a small amount of health to use.
    • Tassadar (High Templar) - Feedback.  Deals damage based on energy pool of enemy.  Also gains Plasma Shield.   Instantly allows Protoss allies and self a bonus to maximum shielding and regeneration.
    • Tassadar (Gantrithor) - Purification Beam.  Deals heavy damage toward an enemy target over a period of time at the cost of self-damage per second.  Nearby enemies are also partially damaged.   If the Gantrithor's shields are depleted, the beam is halted.
    • Zeratul (Dark Templar) - Blink.  Instantly teleports a short distance.
    • Artanis (Scout) - Afterburners.  Boosts movement speed for a short duration.
    • *Raszagal (Extra hero) - Shadow Fury.  Teleports to nearby enemies and strikes them with each blink.
    • Duran (Ghost) - Stim Infusion.  Boosts attack/movement speeds while also healing for a short duration
    • *DuGalle (Extra hero) - Stun Seeker Missile.  After preparing a seeker, the drone follows its victim until explosion, which stuns all nearby enemy units.
    • Duran (Infested) - Corruption Bolt.  Deals small damage towards an enemy target.  Afterwards, the target has any incoming damage greatly increased to it for a duration.
  • Extra Hero Appearances - Allows some heroes to appear in missions never seen in before.  Also grants two additional never-before seen heroes in general; Raszagal and DuGalle.  The full list of extra hero appearances are as follows:
    • Terran07 - Raynor (Marine)
    • Terran08 - Sarah Kerrigan (Ghost)
    • Zerg07 - Kerrigan (Infested)
    • Protoss05 - Raynor (Marine).  Also Kerrigan appears as an enemy hero against you when you are near the end-beacon.  She cannot be killed but when defeated (health is critically low) will deep-tunnel away to safety.  Kerrigan increased stats than normal and has all abilities available to her in Brood War.  If Extra Abilities is enabled, she will be able to attack air and use Implosion.
    • Protoss06 - Raynor (Marine).  Also Kerrigan will appear as an enemy hero against you.  She must be defeated before you can achieve victory.
    • Protoss10 - Fenix (Dragoon).  Appears at Raynor's base.
    • ProtossX02 - Zeratul (Dark Templar)
    • ProtossX06 - Artanis (Scout) and Kerrigan (Infested)
    • *ProtossX08 - Raszagal will appear here as a new unique hero at Zeratul's base.  She is mainly a spell caster, with access to Void Prison and Confusion.  If Extra Abilities is turned on she will gain Shadow Fury.
    • TerranX05 - Duran (Ghost)
    • *TerranX08 - DuGalle will appear here as a new unique hero.  He is aboard the battlecruiser Aleksander with access to Yamato Cannon and a strong attack.  If Extra abilities is turned on, he will gain Stun Seeker Missiles.
    • ZergX02 - Kerrigan (Infested)
    • ZergX05 - Kerrigan (Infested)
    • ZergX10 - Kerrigan (Infested).  In addition, each enemy fleet has 1 enemy hero for you to deal with.  The Dominion has Mengsk aboard the "Duke's Revenge" battlecruiser (Norad II stats/abilities).  The UED has DuGalle aboard the "Aleksander" battlecruiser.  The Protoss has Artanis aboard the "Shield of Aiur" mothership.  All enemy heroes have increased stats and will occasionally attack you in their own waves.  They cannot be killed but when defeated (health critically low) will turn invulnerable and flee back to their base.  If they are defeated while in their own base and/or they surrender, they will exit the map entirely.

Interface

  • Hero Alert - Displays an alert on screen and sounds an alarm when an ally hero is <50% of health and being attacked.
  • Briefing Static - Displays a static-like effect on briefing portraits, mimicking the effects of portraits in Starcraft: Remastered.
  • New Gettysburg Tileset - Turns the Terran09 mission into a ground cityscape map instead of a platform map.  This is to mirror the new canon change as seen in Starcraft II.  In addition, upon victory, a special FMV will play instead of the normal in-game cutscene.
  • Profiles
    • Unit Profiles - Displays a tooltip alert whenever a new unit is available
    • Character Profiles - Displays a tooltip alert whenever a new hero or character is available or known
    • Planet Profiles - Displays a tooltip alert whenever a new planet is traveled to
  • Command Bar Console

Visuals

    • Char - Above the fiery world of the Zerg
    • Mar Sara - Above the iconic fringe world

  • Weather Effects - Displays certain weather conditions in missions.  Some maps will never have weather when inside an installation or aboard a space platform.  This can be toggled as:
    • None - Turns off all weather effects
    • Sporadic - Some weather will be displayed
    • Frequent - Lots of weather will be displayed
    • Full - All weather will be displayed
  • Faction Models - Converts many unit and structure models to unique versions based on the particular fleet faction they belong to. (For example: Nerazim changes many structures/units to a "Dark Templar" dark/green schema.  Some updates are simple color palette changes others are entirely different models.  If a faction isn't listed they will use standard models and/or "retro" SC1 models if enabled (see Model section).  (NOTE: some units even if factions are enabled will use retro models if enabled.  This will occur if there is no corresponding faction model (example: Science Vessel).  Factions, however, will always take precedent over retro models if a faction model is enabled and present.  If you only wish to see retro models, disable all factions and enable all retro models.
The factions that can be turned on include:
