StarCraft: Mass Recall
StarCraft: Mass Recall (SCMR) is a project that recreates the classic StarCraft and Brood War gameplay as well as the entire single-player campaigns within the StarCraft II engine. StarCraft: Mass Recall contains 68 maps, 59 from the original StarCraft/Brood War game, 3 that were hidden or deleted on various StarCraft supports, and 6 from the 1998 demo campaign.
You need to have StarCraft II installed in order to play the Mod. StarCraft II is free-to-play, you can download the game client from the StarCraft II Official Game Site.

FRIENDLY DISCLAIMER: This Mod and all campaign files are free. This means, all who work on Mass Recall are putting their free time into an incredibly comprehensive remaster of all of StarCraft and Brood War, including entirely new custom campaigns such as the Stukov Series and Enslavers Redux. Thus, there should be absolutely no expectations that bug fixes or new features will be released in any sort of timely manner. This is a "we'll get to it when we get to it" situation. Please be aware the modders here have work lives, family lives, and simply do not have the energy to maintain a lively work cycle to keep the Mod 100% up to date. We do promise we will release updates when we feel they are ready to be released. We hope that you understand our position on this.

Installation
“Uh... how do you work this damn thing?” – Marine
Auto-Installation
(for Windows, if you're using Mac follow the manual installation guide below)
For a fresh auto-install please carefully follow these steps:
1. Download the SCMR installer and the required files (see the "Downloads" section above).
2. Move all downloaded ZIP-Files and unzip the installer to your StarCraft II installation directory. The default path to it is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II\".
3. Run the installer.
4. After SCMR is successfully installed, use the shortcut on your Desktop to run SCMR.
Auto install video guide by DeltronLive
Note that this is for an older version, just make sure you have all the latest required files specified in the "Downloads" section above, otherwise the process is the same.
Manual Installation
If auto-install fails and/or you would like to manually install SCMR, please carefully follow these steps:
1. Download the required file sets (see the "Downloads" section above). For StarCraft: Mass Recall to work properly you need to download the Campaign Maps - that are bundled with the Main Mod (SCMRmod) and a "dummy" Cinematics Mod (SCMRcinematics) - as well as the Assets Mod (SCMRassets) and a Localization Mod (SCMRlocal).
2. Then extract all ZIP-Files to a folder of your choice. The extracted folder should look like graphic [1] below.
3. Now, open your StarCraft II installation directory where the StarCraft II.exe (WIN) or .app (MAC) is located. Per default this is on your primary C: drive under "Program Files (x86)" (WIN) or "Applications" (MAC). The standard paths to the StarCraft II installation directory are shown below.
Windows: "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II"
Mac OSX: "Macintosh HD/Applications/StarCraft II"
The StarCraft II installation directory should look similar to graphic [2] below. Note that you may need to create the "Maps" folder here if it does not already exist. Then move the folder called "Starcraft Mass Recall" (with lowercase "c") from the extracted folder to the "Maps" folder within your StarCraft II installation directory. The "Maps" folder should now look like graphic [3] below.
4. Next, move the "Mods" folder from the extracted folder into the StarCraft II installation directory (the same place as the "Maps" folder). Your "Mods" folder should now have four Mod files and resemble graphic [4] above.
5. While your newly placed "Starcraft Mass Recall" folder within the "Maps" folder should now look like graphic [5] below.
Other (older) manual installation guides:
- Step-by-step Installation Guide (English)
- Installations-Handbuch (Deutsch)
Alternative ways to play
If the above doesn't work for you, first and foremost make sure that:
- you have all the necessary files in the right directories
- you've set the correct paths for the shortcut
- you're running the latest version of StarCraft II
Alternative way to play without the shortcut:
- locate SC2Switcher.exe in the Support folder (your StarCraft II installation directory)/Support
- locate the SCMR Campaign Launcher file in (your StarCraft II installation directory)/Maps/Starcraft Mass Recall
- drag and drop the SCMR Campaign Launcher file to SC2Switcher.exe
If you wish to play while logged on to Battle.net, you will need to take the following steps:
- Launch StarCraft II using the Battle.net launcher
- Alt-tab to Desktop
- Launch StarCraft: Mass Recall using the created shortcut
Note that you can still save and load any SCMR map, as long as you're logged in.
Bonus Campaign - Enslavers Redux Installation
ZIP Download - https://www.sc2mapster.com/projects/starcraft-mass-recall/files/3246278
This file includes a new 30-mission extra bonus campaign "Enslavers Redux" by OmegaWeaponX! This series contains 4 episodes, with 9 unique maps per Terran, Protoss, and Zerg races, with 3 epilogue maps. Content and story is based on the original Enslavers custom maps in StarCraft and Dark Vengeance maps in Brood War. Features brand new dialog and story, missions, and enhanced heroes with their own level-up mechanics! Learn what happens between the major StarCraft episodes and the events leading up to StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty!
While this custom campaign can be played stand-alone by opening up the unique Enslavers Redux Campaign Launcher and launching missions from there, it is also integrated into Mass Recall via the "Extras" menu. In order to load it properly in for the Mass Recall Launcher to work with this campaign, follow these instructions:
- Download the above ZIP-file containing Enslavers Redux
- Go into your StarCraft II folder -> SCMR Mass Recall -> Extras:
- Within Extras, place your ZIP-file, then uncompress it there. You should have a folder that says 8. Enslavers Redux. It should look like this now:
- You've got Enslavers Redux installed! Now from the SCMR Campaign Launcher go to Extras and click on the Enslavers Redux menu panel. You can launch any mission from here or open the Enslavers Redux Campaign Launcher and launch missions from there!
Please note - This campaign has no unique audio for voices and as such it is required that subtitles are enabled in order to actually read what transmissions are saying :)

Troubleshooting
“I swear it's always some damn thing.” – Joeyray
Make sure to check out the auto install and manual install video guides also linked above. The end result in these videos is the same, regardless of install method.
Also make sure you're using an up-to-date version of StarCraft II.
Common issues:
- Param/Value/-Error: If lots of texts are like that, you may have a problem with your Mods: Delete SCMRmod and SCMRlocal, and re-download them from the links above. If it is only one or two lines (say, a mission objective), report it in the comments section (in that case, please specify which language you are playing in).
- Dependency cannot be loaded: The Mods are not at the proper place. Check that you have put your Mods (SCMRmod, SCMRassets and SCMRlocal) in the "Mods" folder, as on the pictures above.
- Unable to load map: Your Maps are not at the proper place. Check that you have put the episode files such as "1. Rebel Yell" in a folder "Starcraft Mass Recall", itself to be placed in "Maps", as on the pictures above.

We couldn't upload these mods on mapster because files larger than 200Mb are rejected. After they have uploaded all 200Mb at a painfully slow rate. Urgh.
We'll see about an other hosting.

The shield battery uses the Legacy of the Void values. It regenerates at 36 shields per second instead of 10. This will be fixed in 6.1. Note that the SC1 value was much higher than that, almost instant, but there was no autocast, you had to right-clic the unit on the battery. We decided that the autocast would fit with the remake's spirit, so I did some balancing and settled for 10/s. That's lower than a UED medic, but much faster than an episode 1 medic (14/s and 4/s respectively)
Hydra actor still persist when morphing to lurkers, tested in Zerg 06 with BW tech.

about dropship, i found a good replacement for the banshee one
https://www.sc2mapster.com/assets/dark-protoss/files/156-dropship-portrait/
I have down loaded this and done exactly what the video on youtube tells you yet two of the mods do not seem to work its says they are unusable the luncher and the cinimatics mods, coming say they dont work, Is there something brocken on these maps.
I am not a computer person so I dont know much about it to be honest but whats can be wrong as i have done what the video say in the same order. HELP
@wrace0: Go
i guess they originally used torrent, cause they couldnt upload those files here, for some reason.
As for mega, that is my folder, I gave this alternative version to the mass recall team. I dont have onedrive, and all those stuff.
I understand that SC1 is the game from 1998, but SCMR is the remake of this game (amazing, yes) on the engine of SC2, so I do not understand why do you place cinema addon and SCMRLocal on such ancient and stupid hostings like torrent and mega.nz. Now there are such good hostings as google-drive or OneDrive (from Microsoft) with default limit of 5 GB (I do not know what do you do with cinematics - for 5.4.3 this file has size about 250 MB - and localizations - hm, ~ 100 MB for 5.4.3?, - but I am sure (hope) that you can't increase the size of these files to more than 3 GB) which can be easily (and for small price) increased to 1 TB (I am about OneDrive, easy access to which has any user of Win-10 - the only one good OS after WinXP; in my opinion, of course). Though I want to ask: can you upload cinema addon and SCMRLocal on the normal hosting? (Hm, the greatest game/remake/team, but very strange choice of hostings for mod files.) Thanks.
@RimTechCombot: Go
The problem is that there is no SC1 sound file for those unit in the 6.0 SCMR mod directory. Those are relatively easy to fix, though. I've extracted those files from the 5.x retro mod and applied to the new one. So perhaps the team could do something like that when they publish the next fix?
Original Campaign (Terran 02 Mar Sara): Raynor's mouth is not opening during talking in the ending cutscene (whilst back to 5.4.x it worked perfectly), same problem apply to Dropship (Banshee) portrait.
Firebats switch to SC2 quotes for agitation state(clicked several times), vultures, tanks, ghosts, wraiths, science vessels, BCs, that about covers the terran units that switch to SC2 quotes
I was using the cheats to find this out fast and using "operation cwal" makes buildings move very fast(academy, all zerg buildings) not sure if that is a bug, though. Also it increases lava spawn rate, but not how fast the eggs build up.
Drones are purely SC2 sounds it seems, mutalisks go to SC2 for agitation, Queens switch to SC2 agitation, I'm not sure about this one, seems to only have one quote? Defilers don't seem to have SC1 quotes at all I think, kinda hard with zerg "quotes". Ultralisk don't seem to have SC1 quotes. Cheats like operation cwal and power overwhelming don't affect your second race in missions where you control two(if you want to fix cheats)
DTs seem pure SC2 atleast in Ep3, zealot switches to SC2 in agitation, observer is largely SC2, Shuttle doesn't use SC1 quotes, scout switches to SC2 when agitated, along with carrier and I think reaver?
That about covers their voices I think.
Regarding the shield batteries, they feel weird, to say the least, like I had instances where it was mostly Fenix and cannons defending my base because of my units being away, and the only reason my base was standing is because the photon cannons recieved shields from batteries, it just feels like I wouldn't have completed the mission without these new SC2 shield battery versions, which prompted me to report that. And also, you're right about them recharging much faster in SC1.
"The Jacobs Installation" in "Rebel Yell" doesn't hide the objectives, also "Operation Silent Scream", I checked "Overmind" and unless the text appears after first 5 seconds of speech, it is clear on my end. Also while I've been searching through these, if you hit cancel while people are still talking it switches to the next batch of text, so for example Fenix only said one sentence out of his 5 or 6, and then after I hit cancel it froze on Aldaris' text, which comes after that, not really something important in the long run, but it could lead to a spoiler? I don't know, since you're gonna play that mission soon anyway, just a minor nitpick (I've noticed this in the first missions of "The Fall"). "The Fall" seems to be clear of the mission delay not delaying, I haven't checked or played the BW campaigns, yet, so no bug reports for those, yet.
Hope I am not too late to post these, but here are some unreported bugs I found.
- If you skip tutorial for the boot camp mission in looming campaign, it will say "unable to load map" then take you to Starcraft 2.
- The "delay mission objectives" doesn't working for Looming missions 3. It might be a good idea and double check each mission so that this is working for every mission, because I remember seeing a mission in Rebel Yell and a mission in Overmind where this wasn't working either, but I can't remember which mission they were.
- Seems like you didn't update the Resurrection mission. It still uses the old 5.x layout for the briefing room and not the new 6.0 layout. Also, the delay mission objectives doesn't work for this mission either.
- "It seems that whenever Edmund Duke talks his portrait pops out once in every 2-3 seconds when he talks outside of a briefing room. (I suspect whenever his talking animation finishes his portrait turns of and it pops up again until he finishes his talks."
I notice this with a lot of other portraits, too. It seems to effect all custom ones, but the original Starcraft 2 portraits seem to be OK.
- "Also, I could be wrong on this one, but I think when shield batteries replenished shields in SC1/BW, the unit receiving the shield recharge couldn't move or fight, and I don't believe they could recharge building shields?"
Yes you are right on this and also shield batteries would recharge almost instantly in the original Starcraft 1, but I think it is OK how it is now, too. At least now they aren't as OP anymore. Shield batteries shouldn't recharge buildings though and I mentioned this during beta testing, too.
Some of these bugs that JoroA mentioned, I am having, too, and I also mentioned some of these back in beta testing, too. I assume they are bust with real life and haven't gotten around to it, but they are well aware fo them and hopefully can get them fixed soon. Keep up the good work!
Alright, since i posted ALOT of bugs here, i am going to make it a bit easier to handle by making this post my bug report list, if i find any more bugs i will update this post as needed with: "EDIT" under it, since it is likely i will find more bugs. (so far i have completed only loomings, episode 1, 2, 3, 4 and the beginning of episode 5.
GENERAL bugs:
1. You can make Arbiters without the need of Arbiter tribunal.
2. If you cancel a sunken colony and then mutate a spore it will look like a spore colony is over a currently mutating building (similar to the hydralisk over cocoon)
3. Arbiters do not gain shield upgrades and for some reason do not get the Level 1 Armor upgrades, but they get the armor upgrades level 2 and 3 without applying the level 1 upgrade (so basically only +2 to armor with all upgrades)
4. In missions where you have 2 types of supply, the second army supply will not be shown and instead will show: Param/values/ and for some reason when you complete those missions you also have a black screen.
5. If you skip the beginning cutscenes many units are not at their supposed positions, that includes enemy units that are supposed to be in bunkers and your own units.
6. Artanis' portrait is bugged, whenever it shows up during cutscenes and during in game, however it is fine in mission briefs and in game (when he is a scout).
7. The shield batteries are too high of a priority in terms of unit selection. If you select an area around buildings, you will always select the units and if no units are found you select a building, however every time you do that around probes for example you will not select the probe but the shield battery wich is very annoying.
8. On every cutscene with Artanis he has Zerathul's blade (except the mission where you get the dark archons, there he has his own blades)
MAP SPECIFIC bugs:
1. During the installation mission for Kerrigan when you reach the final objective (the computer) when it is supposed to say downloading files
...
...
...
Complete, it instead says:
downloading files:
Param/values/whatever
Param/values/whatever
Param/values/whatever
Complete
2. If you skip the cutscene for the mission where kerrigan first faces Protoss on Char it has a graphical glitch in the main base.
3. A sunken colony above the crashed ship Norad II is glowing bright orange.
4. You cannot skip the first cutscene in the terran mission 09.
5. In the final mission of Episode 3. SCV's cannot auto repair, they seem to run around and can't do it, they can repair manually tho. It seems units (such as firebats) have no voice. (I suspect all units that are supposed to have BW voices of the secondary race (in this case Terran) instead of SC2 do no have a voice).
6. On the second hidden terran mission if you choose all infantry to get +1 armor and attack, Kerrigan will not show to have 1 1 but instead 1 0, however the bonuses do apply, this is just a visual bug.
7. If Tassadar hallucinate on Raynor it will drain his energy but nothing happens, i have not tested on other terran units, but it is possible that it does not work as well.
8. On the second mission on shakuras when Kerrigan arrives to talk to Aldaris and Zerathul when Aldaris speaks instead of his portrait you see the standart High templar portrait.
9. On the ice mission where you play as Kerrigan with the Protoss if you skip the cutscene the whole map will be black and you can't see anything.
10. You can build arbiters in the mission where dark archons are introduced (you shouldn't be able to).
11. During the second mission of the UED if two pilots enter at the same time only 1 battlecruiser will be taken.
That is it for now, should i find more bugs i will edit below this text.
EDIT #1
It seems that whenever Edmund Duke talks his portrait pops out once in every 2-3 seconds when he talks outside of a briefing room. (I suspect whenever his talking animation finishes his portrait turns of and it pops up again until he finishes his talks.
Terran pilots from the second UED mission (or civilians in general) have no talking animations.
Battlecruisers seem to not have a death animation (atleast not in the second UED mission)
EDIT #2
On episode 5 mission 3 once you kill all the hives and bring Duran to the beacon nothing happens. (The mission cannot be completed), and if you skip the first cutscene too soon there will be no music for the rest of the mission. (once the music starts if you skip, everything is fine).
EDIT #3
On patriot's blood whenever a marine talks his icon flashes (similar to when Duke talks).
When you complete the mission and DuGalle talks, there are no subtitles.
EDIT #4
This one is a unexpected one: The last UED mission has no bugs but the cinematic after it has very low volume on one side of the headphones (almost sounds muted), but if you start it by itself without completing the mission prior to it, it works fine.
EDIT #5
The second zerg mission in brood war zerg torrasque does not show the upgrade bonuses (He starts with the lvl 2 armor that ultras have thus it shows 2 on his armor) and if you upgrade zerg armor it does not show (but it does apply). Also on the ending cutscene in the same mission a marine corpse slides down whilst standing up.... it was pretty amusing, but i do not think it was intended.
EDIT #6
Fenix does not have an attack animation (atleast not in the zerg missions)
EDIT #7
On the zerg mission where you have to destroy the UED and zerg forces on Korhal you cannot skip that cutscene, also the infested command centers look a bit strange when on creep (60-70% are covered in gray creep) and whenever you select an infested command center on the portrait it shows the adjutant, instead it should be overmind/celebrite)
EDIT #8
All of the brood war zerg buildings should have the zerg celebrite portrait instead of the overmind (just like in the classic brood war)
EDIT #9
When you set up your Mass Recall screen (stars, red star a planet etc etc) It will work fine, but if you leave and return it still be stars, however when you click options it will go back to what you selected last time. So for example i choose red star, and i play games but then i return to the title screen and its starts, when i click options THEN it will change to the red star. (it is a minor bug)
EDIT #10
On the mission true colors if you try to skip the cutscene the game bugs, the zerg music starts but the cutscene continues and when the marines walk out of the camera it just stay there and can't play (basically the if you try to skip you are stuck forever in the cutscene)
EDIT #11 (man the bugs just keep on coming...)
On the mission where you need to kill the UED scientists i have noticed that you made it harder to save one of your beginning expansions, tho if you save the bottom right one (no cheats used in this playtrough) on hard for some reason the bottom side does not attack. In fact only the top zerg attacked with just mutas and guardians, while the bottom orange base did not even expand to the bottom base that was destroyed.
EDIT #12
On the mission where you have to set charges to pylon clusters, when you press F2 you do not select Duran and when you control him with an army (in the same control group) he does sounds similar to auto turret attacks (instead of "you got it" or "i'll take care of it etc etc"), also in this mission in the final cutscene where zealots are protecting the female they run past the zerglings and just hold their position in a line while the zerg start killing them (they only fight back but only those that are in melee range), also the female protoss i think is Razhagal and if so than you did not use the custom model you used for "the reckoning" mission.
EDIT #13
On "to slay the beast" The final cutscene the secondary (protoss) supply remains during the cutscene.
EDIT #14
On the hidden mission with Zerathul the briefing room looks very weird, and it should be (if you are trying to do it like the classic BW) the zerg briefing room (tho that i know makes little sense), also if you skip the first cutscene the whole screen remains black (exactly like bug number 9 on map specific bugs), also a personal request: please remove that specific sound/music when entering a beacon and a cutscene starts, it is really annoying and irritating to hear the constant BEEP BOOOP BEEP BOOP while interesting dialogue is going on, like seriously i mute the sound on one of my favorite parts of the game.
EDIT #15
OK adding 3 custom musics was just cruel... Also the score screen is black on this mission.
The archons on this missions look weird. Inside they look like blurry blobs, for example the dark archons are red and in the middle are blakish and messed up.
EDIT #16
Drones do not have an attack animation and particles (They just stand against the target without spitting or doing anything it just stands still and doing damage)
EDIT #17
The briefing room for Resurrection IV is not updated and has only 2 difficulties and Artanis is also not updated.
The beginning cutscene cannot be skipped.
Taldarin has no voice and no attack animation.
For some reason Skullder unit 001 (the hero Goliath unit) starts near Raynor.
The terran civilian (tank pilot) has no voice. (he should have the standard civilian voice) and moves VERY slow.
The units in Resurrection IV use the voices from SC2.
You cannot attack the first enemy command center and supply depot (that are in creep with the infested terrans) buildings on this mission.
The Dark templar can make a dark archon, but on Resurrection IV it should not be possible.
If you skip the cutscene where they cure Stukov the units are frozen and cannot mover or attack (so all your units are killed when the zerglings attack.
If you skip cutscenes many units will not start where they should be. That includes enemy units in bunkers, witch in a way brakes the game, additionally many of your own units will be far in the back (for example workers will be waay of from their starting point or heroes (because during the cutscenes they move to their supposed location).
During the second mission of the UED if two pilots enter at the same time only 1 battlecruiser will be taken.
It seems Artanis' portrait is bugged whenever he talks during the game and cutscenes. The portrait itself is fine during the mission briefing and in game (when he is a unit) however whenever his dialogue triggers during cutscenes or during the game its bugged.
Arbiters do not need their building to be built. (even in the Dark archon missions)
Back again with another bug report!
You can build arbiters in the mission where dark archons are introduced, without the need for the arbiter building. Artanis portrait was bugged here as well.
Forgot to mention that in all cutscenes with Artanis (except the mission with dark archons) he has zerathul's green blade witch is weird, however after seeing that he has 2 blue blades on the dark archon mission it seems it may be a bug/mistake on your part.
Found yet another bug!
The mission where you have to destroy the overmind or steal the crystal with a drone or a probe again the secondary race (zerg in this case) does not show supply it instead shows param/value.
When you destroy the overmind Artanis's portait is bugged.
Both in this mission and the last protoss mission (where you have to destroy the overmind), the score screen is pitch black.
There are ALOT more bugs in the full release than i expected... Once i beat mass recall i will do a full list of all the bugs i mentioned so far as well as any i may have forgotten to mention. (Before i forget you can build arbiters in the mission where you have to kill 2 celebrites with zerathul without the need of a specific building.)
I've had the param/value thing only in one mission(playing in English) and it was in the final mission of the "The Fall", the param value thing appeared for the terran supply(you control both the Protoss and the Terrans). I haven't played the BW campaings yet, though. Also in "The Fall" I noticed you could build Arbiters without an Arbiter Tribunal, and that Defilers in "The Overmind" started with consume, which made researching it pointless, and also Metasynaptic Node(+12.5 starting/+50 max energy) even if researched did nothing.
Also, I could be wrong on this one, but I think when shield batteries replenished shields in SC1/BW, the unit receiving the shield recharge couldn't move or fight, and I don't believe they could recharge building shields?
Some units, like the ghost, use a mix of SC1 and SC2 quotes, if you click the ghost and order him to move and stuff, it's the SC1 quotes, but when he becomes agitated by clicking him too much, he uses the SC2 quotes, and I wanted to hear the "now reap the whirlwind part" :(. Other than that, I don't believe I encountered any other bugs, keep up the good work!
I seem to only be able to download three folders and not the five thats needed for it to run where can i get the other folder from if doing it manually
