StarCraft: Mass Recall
StarCraft: Mass Recall (SCMR) is a project that recreates the classic StarCraft and Brood War gameplay as well as the entire single-player campaigns within the StarCraft II engine. StarCraft: Mass Recall contains 68 maps, 59 from the original StarCraft/Brood War game, 3 that were hidden or deleted on various StarCraft supports, and 6 from the 1998 demo campaign.
You need to have StarCraft II installed in order to play the Mod. StarCraft II is free-to-play, you can download the game client from the StarCraft II Official Game Site.

FRIENDLY DISCLAIMER: This Mod and all campaign files are free. This means, all who work on Mass Recall are putting their free time into an incredibly comprehensive remaster of all of StarCraft and Brood War, including entirely new custom campaigns such as the Stukov Series and Enslavers Redux. Thus, there should be absolutely no expectations that bug fixes or new features will be released in any sort of timely manner. This is a "we'll get to it when we get to it" situation. Please be aware the modders here have work lives, family lives, and simply do not have the energy to maintain a lively work cycle to keep the Mod 100% up to date. We do promise we will release updates when we feel they are ready to be released. We hope that you understand our position on this.

Auto-Installation
(for Windows, if you're using Mac follow the manual installation guide below)
For a fresh auto-install please carefully follow these steps:
1. Download the SCMR installer and the required files (see the "Downloads" section above).
2. Move all downloaded ZIP-Files and unzip the installer to your StarCraft II installation directory. The default path to it is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II\".
3. Run the installer.
4. After SCMR is successfully installed, use the shortcut on your Desktop to run SCMR.
Auto install video guide by DeltronLive
Note that this is for an older version, just make sure you have all the latest required files specified in the "Downloads" section above, otherwise the process is the same.
Manual Installation
If auto-install fails and/or you would like to manually install SCMR, please carefully follow these steps:
1. Download the required file sets (see the "Downloads" section above). For StarCraft: Mass Recall to work properly you need to download the Campaign Maps - that are bundled with the Main Mod (SCMRmod) and a "dummy" Cinematics Mod (SCMRcinematics) - as well as the Assets Mod (SCMRassets) and a Localization Mod (SCMRlocal).
2. Then extract all ZIP-Files to a folder of your choice. The extracted folder should look like graphic [1] below.
3. Now, open your StarCraft II installation directory where the StarCraft II.exe (WIN) or .app (MAC) is located. Per default this is on your primary C: drive under "Program Files (x86)" (WIN) or "Applications" (MAC). The standard paths to the StarCraft II installation directory are shown below.
Windows: "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II"
Mac OSX: "Macintosh HD/Applications/StarCraft II"
The StarCraft II installation directory should look similar to graphic [2] below. Note that you may need to create the "Maps" folder here if it does not already exist. Then move the folder called "Starcraft Mass Recall" (with lowercase "c") from the extracted folder to the "Maps" folder within your StarCraft II installation directory. The "Maps" folder should now look like graphic [3] below.
4. Next, move the "Mods" folder from the extracted folder into the StarCraft II installation directory (the same place as the "Maps" folder). Your "Mods" folder should now have four Mod files and resemble graphic [4] above.
5. While your newly placed "Starcraft Mass Recall" folder within the "Maps" folder should now look like graphic [5] below.
Other (older) manual installation guides:
- Step-by-step Installation Guide (English)
- Installations-Handbuch (Deutsch)
Alternative ways to play
If the above doesn't work for you, first and foremost make sure that:
- you have all the necessary files in the right directories
- you've set the correct paths for the shortcut
- you're running the latest version of StarCraft II
Alternative way to play without the shortcut:
- locate SC2Switcher.exe in the Support folder (your StarCraft II installation directory)/Support
- locate the SCMR Campaign Launcher file in (your StarCraft II installation directory)/Maps/Starcraft Mass Recall
- drag and drop the SCMR Campaign Launcher file to SC2Switcher.exe
If you wish to play while logged on to Battle.net, you will need to take the following steps:
- Launch StarCraft II using the Battle.net launcher
- Alt-tab to Desktop
- Launch StarCraft: Mass Recall using the created shortcut
Note that you can still save and load any SCMR map, as long as you're logged in.
Bonus Campaign - Enslavers Redux Installation
ZIP Download - https://www.sc2mapster.com/projects/starcraft-mass-recall/files/3246278
This file includes a new 30-mission extra bonus campaign "Enslavers Redux" by OmegaWeaponX! This series contains 4 episodes, with 9 unique maps per Terran, Protoss, and Zerg races, with 3 epilogue maps. Content and story is based on the original Enslavers custom maps in StarCraft and Dark Vengeance maps in Brood War. Features brand new dialog and story, missions, and enhanced heroes with their own level-up mechanics! Learn what happens between the major StarCraft episodes and the events leading up to StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty!
While this custom campaign can be played stand-alone by opening up the unique Enslavers Redux Campaign Launcher and launching missions from there, it is also integrated into Mass Recall via the "Extras" menu. In order to load it properly in for the Mass Recall Launcher to work with this campaign, follow these instructions:
- Download the above ZIP-file containing Enslavers Redux
- Go into your StarCraft II folder -> SCMR Mass Recall -> Extras:
- Within Extras, place your ZIP-file, then uncompress it there. You should have a folder that says 8. Enslavers Redux. It should look like this now:
- You've got Enslavers Redux installed! Now from the SCMR Campaign Launcher go to Extras and click on the Enslavers Redux menu panel. You can launch any mission from here or open the Enslavers Redux Campaign Launcher and launch missions from there!
Please note - This campaign has no unique audio for voices and as such it is required that subtitles are enabled in order to actually read what transmissions are saying :)

Troubleshooting
“I swear it's always some damn thing.” – Joeyray
Make sure to check out the auto install and manual install video guides also linked above. The end result in these videos is the same, regardless of install method.
Also make sure you're using an up-to-date version of StarCraft II.
Common issues:
- Param/Value/-Error: If lots of texts are like that, you may have a problem with your Mods: Delete SCMRmod and SCMRlocal, and re-download them from the links above. If it is only one or two lines (say, a mission objective), report it in the comments section (in that case, please specify which language you are playing in).
- Dependency cannot be loaded: The Mods are not at the proper place. Check that you have put your Mods (SCMRmod, SCMRassets and SCMRlocal) in the "Mods" folder, as on the pictures above.
- Unable to load map: Your Maps are not at the proper place. Check that you have put the episode files such as "1. Rebel Yell" in a folder "Starcraft Mass Recall", itself to be placed in "Maps", as on the pictures above.

I'd give one or two of those maps a shot, but haven't found working .scm maps for any of those campaigns. Telenil shared the maps he referred to with me and I'm able to mount/extract the ISO's, but the maps are all corrupted it seems. If someone has working copies, I can try to use the Legacy importer for the terrain.
Edit: I'd like to point out as well that both of those campaigns are pretty bad. I'm willing to try to remake the first mission, which might spur someone else into doing the whole project.
@valas991: Go
yeah I understand and I really appreciate your efforts .. great job :D
heh, could be fun hearing some parts of this track at the beginning of emperor's flight (I guess A) (or during the loading screen)
@omar21710: Go quote from TeamLiquid (regarding making retribution and insurrection) "This is very unlikely.
A fan sent me the BW files a year ago, but it would be way more work than it's worth. We worked on these 65 missions for three years, and our jobs take much more time now than they did in 2011-2012. I only managed to squeeze Loomings in because I played the demo as a kid, other campaigns will be left to the next generation of mapmakers. Enslavers/Dark Vengeance was released by opupu, maybe other people will take a shot at Insurrection/Retribution. I do plan to write a guide on how to design and balance an AI at some point."
is there a chance someone send me through e-mail the special rock terran theme shown in terran campaign: Terran08S - Operation Silent Scream ? My e-mail is [email protected]
I would be really grateful if i can recieve that special rock terran theme... it's simply incredible how good it sounds... and i can't find that song through internet ...
That special theme is remake from terran theme 1.
hey guys I want to ask if there is any plan or intention about a remake of Insurrection & Retribution campaigns ?!
@UsernameISAvailable: Go
im gonna say i happens after the Trump Card, even the wiki says it happens at/near the Antiga prime campaign, the Zerg got lured there amass by the Psi emitters on top of the Zerg that were already there, then Tassadar shows up to help you guys leave and thats when he and Jim and Sarah know of him for the first time, as later in the Zerg mission the Dark templar, Tassadar tells Kerrigan (i know of you well O Queen, for we have met before, im am Tassdar of the Templar, i remember your selfless exploits, defending humanity from the Zerg) and then after you beat the mission, Jim and all of them leave and Tassadar burns the planet like he usually does
hey guys .. I guess there is a problem with units under high ground firing at units over high ground because in the original game the lower units fire damage was reduced significantly while you are firing with no vision .. but in the mass recall version upper units take full damage even when lower units have no vision and just fires at the instant of firing of the upper unit, or the problem may be the duration of the temporary half vision granted to the lower units upon the fire of upper units, I am not sure what is the problem exactly but I do really feel that something is wrong
The way I see it is The Trump Card just lured even more Zerg to Antiga, because the broods you face in Norad II, are the same broods you face in Biting the Bullet, they were definitely on the planet before The Trump Card. I personally just would prefer it to be in the order Blizzard originally intended it to be in the game, which is clearly shown just in how they named each mission file.
Even if it plot-wise happened at the same time, you would have played Biting the Bullet before The Trump Card, and would have been the first mission you get Siege Tanks in, cause if you think about it, in The Trump Card, you get access to both Siege Tanks and Science Vessels, but in Biting the Bullet, you only have access to Siege Tanks, you can't build a Science Facility, and because of that, you can't get the extra 2 levels of upgrades for everything. Because it's unfinished though, you have the option to build Nuclear Silos, but you don't have the option to build Science Facilities, making it completely redundant cause they can't be built without it, and an attached Covert Ops, lol.
And also, I don't exactly take books as a higher standard of canon then the game itself, because those would have came out after the game, and could easily just retcon stuff whenever they really want to.
If I remember correctly from the book 'Liberty's Crusade', they lured the zerg to Antiga to break the blockade. So it might have a meaning if the hidden mission was before the Trump Card. However, if it is after Trump Card, it may explain the amount of zerg. But if it happens at the same time, it hardly matters.
The campaign 'overmind''s last missions are theoretically running simultaneously with the 1st ones of the protoss campain. (again, if I recall correctly from a book)
ps: There are (many) inconsistencies in the universe of StarCraft though.
Oh I see now, so all this is Blizzard's fault for including them in their novel adaptations and changing things around. =/ I still stand by what I said, even that wiki the dude posted said it's clearly Terran7, and The Trump Card is Terran8. The Zerg were already on Antiga to begin with, else Norad II would have never happened.
Dude, it's 150% obvious when this mission is supposed to occur. You're over thinking this completely. The game LISTS the order of all the missions as they are supposed to play out, and "7S" is the real Terran7, The Trump Card is Terran8. I know what I'm talking about here. I dunno where you get this whole "lore" stuff from, as far as I know Blizzard never talked about these missions. And none of this "seeing people leaving" stuff actually applies to the real missions they were based on. A lot of this cutscene stuff is just added in for effect, man. StarCraft didn't have in game cutscenes. =/
I have the same problem: when i load the launcher on my account and push the install button de game stops and it sends me back to the campaign menu with a message that sais "unable to load map". i did everything the instructions said, my starcraft 2 as my HOTS expansion are both original, i once played mass recall (before HOTS) and it worked, so i cant find out what happens.
@UsernameISAvailable: Go
In the lore, the two missions happen at the same time. Kerrigan fights the Confederate while some Protoss come and help the Sons of Korhal against the Zerg. But we can't have both briefings before the missions, so we have to make a choice. There is a feeling of urgency in Biting the Bullet, which doesn't make much sense if the Zerg are not about to overwhelm the planet. You see people leaving the planet at the end of Trump Card and the beginning of Biting, it is much more logical to assume it is the same evacuation.
The Confederate make their blockade, Kerrigan uses the psi emitters, more Zerg come, the Sons of Korhal make a diversion against the hive cluster to let more people escape, the Protoss come (once) and destroy the Zerg. Makes more sense that way.
@UsernameISAvailable: Go
here it says 2 option if I understand it correctly
http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Hidden_Missions
but here he says what you
Interesting stuff. I might believe, you are right because it is said that the zerg eliminated the confederacy's blockade on antiga prime, after they were lured. And ot biting the bullet Jim starts with, your defensive crap isn't working. However, due to Tassadar's appearance, it make it bit difficult, for he is supposed to meet Jim on Char.
Good job putting all this effort into remaking the original games. But there's one problem I have with the Terran Campaign. "7S" actually happens after Norad II, but before The Trump Card, yet you only get the "hidden mission" branch after you beat The Trump Card. This site explains the correct order for both missions. You got "8S" right though. It just doesn't make any sense for Biting the Bullet to happen after The Trump Card, because they leave Antiga after that mission, but Biting the Bullet is still on Antiga Prime, and you're fighting the same Broods you fought in Norad II.

I will check that :D
@omar21710: Go
Huh, I'd never have thought the defiler had 1 armor. Will investigate that and the drone, thanks. SCVs are already capable of autorepair, but you might not see that if you have "Simple Command Card" active in your SC2 options.
@sleep286: Go
The guy who did the German translation is FirefoxGhost, you might want to check with him.
hey guys I discovered a couple of bugs while I am playing the zerg campaign.. 1. Drones benefit from weapons upgrades however its animated weapon acts as if it's still basic 2. Defiler has zero armor by default which is unequal to his one armor in starcraft 1 one more issue I want to illustrate ... why don't you make the SCVs capable of autocast repairing like starcraft 2 just to make live easier :D .. it is a really interesting feature that SC1 lacked
Hey there,
i remember a german localized old version of mass recall. Unfortunately the last versions didn't get localized. Are there any plans to do so? I'd love to see a german 5.3 :o)
Maybe someone is working on it and could need some help?
@Telenil: Go
Thank you very much for your feedback. I really appreciated that. I think I gonna stop playing SC2/Mass Recall for the moment and wait for v5.3. Added cutscenes is really a something worth to wait. Now back to steam library. lol.
