StarCraft: Mass Recall
StarCraft: Mass Recall (SCMR) is a project that recreates the classic StarCraft and Brood War gameplay as well as the entire single-player campaigns within the StarCraft II engine. StarCraft: Mass Recall contains 68 maps, 59 from the original StarCraft/Brood War game, 3 that were hidden or deleted on various StarCraft supports, and 6 from the 1998 demo campaign.
You need to have StarCraft II installed in order to play the Mod. StarCraft II is free-to-play, you can download the game client from the StarCraft II Official Game Site.

FRIENDLY DISCLAIMER: This Mod and all campaign files are free. This means, all who work on Mass Recall are putting their free time into an incredibly comprehensive remaster of all of StarCraft and Brood War, including entirely new custom campaigns such as the Stukov Series and Enslavers Redux. Thus, there should be absolutely no expectations that bug fixes or new features will be released in any sort of timely manner. This is a "we'll get to it when we get to it" situation. Please be aware the modders here have work lives, family lives, and simply do not have the energy to maintain a lively work cycle to keep the Mod 100% up to date. We do promise we will release updates when we feel they are ready to be released. We hope that you understand our position on this.

Installation
“Uh... how do you work this damn thing?” – Marine
Auto-Installation
(for Windows, if you're using Mac follow the manual installation guide below)
For a fresh auto-install please carefully follow these steps:
1. Download the SCMR installer and the required files (see the "Downloads" section above).
2. Move all downloaded ZIP-Files and unzip the installer to your StarCraft II installation directory. The default path to it is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II\".
3. Run the installer.
4. After SCMR is successfully installed, use the shortcut on your Desktop to run SCMR.
Auto install video guide by DeltronLive
Note that this is for an older version, just make sure you have all the latest required files specified in the "Downloads" section above, otherwise the process is the same.
Manual Installation
If auto-install fails and/or you would like to manually install SCMR, please carefully follow these steps:
1. Download the required file sets (see the "Downloads" section above). For StarCraft: Mass Recall to work properly you need to download the Campaign Maps - that are bundled with the Main Mod (SCMRmod) and a "dummy" Cinematics Mod (SCMRcinematics) - as well as the Assets Mod (SCMRassets) and a Localization Mod (SCMRlocal).
2. Then extract all ZIP-Files to a folder of your choice. The extracted folder should look like graphic [1] below.
3. Now, open your StarCraft II installation directory where the StarCraft II.exe (WIN) or .app (MAC) is located. Per default this is on your primary C: drive under "Program Files (x86)" (WIN) or "Applications" (MAC). The standard paths to the StarCraft II installation directory are shown below.
Windows: "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II"
Mac OSX: "Macintosh HD/Applications/StarCraft II"
The StarCraft II installation directory should look similar to graphic [2] below. Note that you may need to create the "Maps" folder here if it does not already exist. Then move the folder called "Starcraft Mass Recall" (with lowercase "c") from the extracted folder to the "Maps" folder within your StarCraft II installation directory. The "Maps" folder should now look like graphic [3] below.
4. Next, move the "Mods" folder from the extracted folder into the StarCraft II installation directory (the same place as the "Maps" folder). Your "Mods" folder should now have four Mod files and resemble graphic [4] above.
5. While your newly placed "Starcraft Mass Recall" folder within the "Maps" folder should now look like graphic [5] below.

Alternative ways to play
If the above doesn't work for you, first and foremost make sure that:
- you have all the necessary files in the right directories
- you've set the correct paths for the shortcut
- you're running the latest version of StarCraft II
Alternative way to play without the shortcut:
- locate SC2Switcher.exe in the Support folder (your StarCraft II installation directory)/Support
- locate the SCMR Campaign Launcher file in (your StarCraft II installation directory)/Maps/Starcraft Mass Recall
- drag and drop the SCMR Campaign Launcher file to SC2Switcher.exe
If you wish to play while logged on to Battle.net, you will need to take the following steps:
- Launch StarCraft II using the Battle.net launcher
- Alt-tab to Desktop
- Launch StarCraft: Mass Recall using the created shortcut
Note that you can still save and load any SCMR map, as long as you're logged in.
Bonus Campaign - Enslavers Redux Installation
ZIP Download - https://www.sc2mapster.com/projects/starcraft-mass-recall/files/3246278
This file includes a new 30-mission extra bonus campaign "Enslavers Redux" by OmegaWeaponX! This series contains 4 episodes, with 9 unique maps per Terran, Protoss, and Zerg races, with 3 epilogue maps. Content and story is based on the original Enslavers custom maps in StarCraft and Dark Vengeance maps in Brood War. Features brand new dialog and story, missions, and enhanced heroes with their own level-up mechanics! Learn what happens between the major StarCraft episodes and the events leading up to StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty!
While this custom campaign can be played stand-alone by opening up the unique Enslavers Redux Campaign Launcher and launching missions from there, it is also integrated into Mass Recall via the "Extras" menu. In order to load it properly in for the Mass Recall Launcher to work with this campaign, follow these instructions:
- Download the above ZIP-file containing Enslavers Redux
- Go into your StarCraft II folder -> SCMR Mass Recall -> Extras:
- Within Extras, place your ZIP-file, then uncompress it there. You should have a folder that says 8. Enslavers Redux. It should look like this now:
- You've got Enslavers Redux installed! Now from the SCMR Campaign Launcher go to Extras and click on the Enslavers Redux menu panel. You can launch any mission from here or open the Enslavers Redux Campaign Launcher and launch missions from there!
Please note - This campaign has no unique audio for voices and as such it is required that subtitles are enabled in order to actually read what transmissions are saying :)

Common issues:
- Param/Value/-Error: If lots of texts are like that, you may have a problem with your Mods: Delete SCMRmod and SCMRlocal, and re-download them from the links above. If it is only one or two lines (say, a mission objective), report it in the comments section (in that case, please specify which language you are playing in).
- Dependency cannot be loaded: The Mods are not at the proper place. Check that you have put your Mods (SCMRmod, SCMRassets and SCMRlocal) in the "Mods" folder, as on the pictures above.
- Unable to load map: Your Maps are not at the proper place. Check that you have put the episode files such as "1. Rebel Yell" in a folder "Starcraft Mass Recall", itself to be placed in "Maps", as on the pictures above.

Hello everyone. Some time ago someone posted you would try to remake Warcraft 1 and 2 in the new Reforged editor and for better or worse the game was released. Are you still planning to remake those campaigns? If not, it is understandable, given all the controversy regarding custom maps, Reforged is not the best it could have been.
In reply to Forge_User_39506029:
He said in a warcraft 3 post that the idea is on hold until they fix bugs.
That said, as large mass recall is right now, there is still more story that could be told. For example, the events that happened in Aridas with the argus stone and the fragile alliance, The Queen of Blades novel, and the dark templar saga. I guess there's also the non-canon expansions, Insurrection and Retribution, but I don't think those are worth doing as they were pretty bad.
I guess we will see what they have plan for the future of this mod.
In reply to squidntrolloctopus:
The Dark Templar Saga (Trilogy) is told in Enslavers Redux, which was integrated as Campaign Ep 8 (Extras) in Mass Recall. It combines story elements of that and the original, sparse, Enslavers maps.
I would like to be taught how I can change the language to Spanish
Hi, I want to report bugs about the Enslavers Redux campaign, the dialogues come out with the legend Param / Value / B7E5C8D2 and the same happens with the missions. in a few words in all the dialogue texts come out with those errors. Game in the English language
Question. In stukov 02, my ghosts will burn into ashes once they uncloak near the end of the game. There are no special effects so I don't know what happend..
My medic could not go with the ghosts cuz she can't cloak, and my ghosts will not die if cloaked even when there is detection; but if uncloaked, they die just like the medic do.
I watched a video on Youtube and seems that others don't have the problem.
So I've finished Mass Recall, including the Loomings precursor campaign (but not the Stukov Series or the Enslavers Redux). May as well drop a report.
Technical aspects:
I had no problem installing Mass Recall, either automatic or manual. It's a bit confusing that the installer is at 7.1. I searched for a 7.3 installer. After unable to find any, I tried with the 7.1 installer, and that worked fine. Perhaps it's worth to note that the 7.1 installer can be used for the 7.3 version of the game.
The game itself ran mostly flawless, except for two technical issues:
1st: There are often problems with saving the game, which caused me to have to restart some missions early on. Later, I realized that, if I was able to save the game at the very start of the mission, I would be able to save the game for the rest of the mission as well. So from then on, at the start of each mission, I quicksaved. If that failed, I'd return to the Main Menu, restarted the mission, and tried again. After that, this really had not been an issue anymore.
2nd: There is an issue starting the fifth campaign. It seems that the issue is related to the UED intro movie. Copying "TerranX01.SC2Map" to "starxintr.SC2Map" to start the campaign allows you to bypass this issue. Once the campaign is started, and you see the intro and the first mission in the main menu, you can then delete the "starxintr.SC2Map" again, and play the intro from the mission list.
Graphical aspects:
This was mostly top notch. The couple of units that had to be created seemed to fit right into the graphics! The different graphics for different factions was also a really nice touch, and those also fit in well.
The portrait graphics were a mixed experience. Most of the heroes that had been reworked from their SC2 version, such as Raynor and Stukov, looked excellent. Some of the custom unit portraits, such as the Terran Dropship and Valkyrie, also looked fine. However, DuGalle, Duke and Duran were clearly of a lower quality than the other portraits, making it a bit jarring. Also, Terran Kerrigan really screamed "Nova with red hair" to me, but that wasn't a big issue.
I do understand, though, that 3D portraits like that are really hard to make, and I'm grateful for the work that has been put into them!
Cinematic aspects:
Oh, my! I did not expect to see so much work and love placed into the cinematics at the start and end of each mission. They really do help quite a lot with the immersion, and are excellently done! I only noticed issues at the end of the 6th and the 9th mission of the 6th campaign. The 6th mission has no voice lines or subtitles for Duran's dialogue at the end. The 9th mission has Duran's portrait appearing randomly in the conversation.
The cinematics always enriched the story the first time you see them. Unfortunately, unlike the SC2 in-map cinematics, these cinematics aren't skippable. That was sometimes annoying when a map had to be restarted because of the save game issue. However, overall they were definitely worth it!
Gameplay aspects:
I must admit, it's been ages since I played the original Starcraft campaigns, so I can't really compare the actual missions to the original game. While the Mass Recall maps weren't as interesting as the Starcraft 2 maps, I do realize that the Mass Recall maps tried to mimic the Starcraft 1 maps, which generally were rather basic as well.
I wanted a rather casual experience to recall the SC1 Lore before heading throug the SC2 campaigns. I therefor started on Normal for Loomings and the 1st Terran campaign. However, the experience wasn't nearly as casual as I expected Normal to be, so I switched to Easy from the start of the 2nd campaign, and kept Easy active all the way to the 6th campaign.
I did like the option to add Medics and Lurkers to the SC1 campaigns. I was a bit surprised to notice I could never train Dark Templars during the 3rd campaign, despite there being a lot of Dark Templars already walking around. That said, Medics were the main reason I enabled the option. They seem so essential to the Terran bio playstyle, due to Stimpacks.
I also did like the option to boost heroes, making them appear more often, and giving them special abilities. There were still a couple of maps that suffered from having to keep the heroes safeguarded in the back of your base to not risk them dying and you losing the mission. However, the extra abilities that they were granted made that less of an issue. Duran's auto-self heal, and Zeratul's blink abilities, for example, made it easier to just send them with the troops, and not have to worry about them suddenly dying.
I also really liked how this altered the final map. I had expected Artanis to appear as a Scout (his only unit type during the original BW game), and was pleasantly surprised. However, it seemed like the enemy heroes didn't exactly work as intended. Early into the mission, Arcturus attacked, and then Artanis attacked right after. After bringing them to low health, they retreated. Arcturus' flagship then seemed to bug out, and I later saw it sitting somewhere near the bottom of the map, invulnerable at low health, not moving or attacking. Artanis returned properly to his base, but then never attacked again. DuGalle never attacked, but when I entered his base and assaulted him, he kept retreating and then attacking again. Apparently, he's really strong against Mass Mutas, so he cleaned up a maxed out Muta army simply by respawning like that, even though the rest of his army was taken out.
I was not a big fan of the huge amount of static defenses that enemy bases tend to have. Even if you have basically won already, you still have to work your way through their defenses, which felt like a chore. It emphasized rolling into big supply capped armies and then swarming over the enmy, rather than tactical strikes. I assume, though, that the SC1 maps were similar in this aspect.
I'm not sure what the goal of the difficulty levels are. As I said, I've only played Normal and Easy, and even on Easy, there are some missions that are harder than SC2 Brutal maps, at least early on in the mission. Often, the AI kept on hammering your bases hard and fast, so you really had to focus on building up defenses alongside your economy quickly, or find yourself overrun. Especially if you tried to take early expansions was this an issue, as it was hard to defend multiple bases at the same time, until you had built up a proper army. Generally, this lead to walling up and defending your base while building up a huge army, and once the army was large enough, swarm over the enemy bases.
In Mass Recall, on Easy difficulty, I had to reload and/or restart missions more often than in Wings of Liberty, on Brutal difficulty. Perhaps for Easy difficulty, it would be more appropriate if your bases were assaulted less often, and/or by weaker army compositions. Alternatively, Easy difficulty could have more minerals and a second geyser in their base to reduce the need to expand.
Conclusion:
Overall, I had a great experience playing Mass Recall. It was much better than I had expected it to be considering it's a free fan project. I must applaud you for your hard work on this project! For people that plan to brush up their Starcraft Lore before heading through the Starcraft 2 campaigns, I would definitely recommend Mass Recall!
Already there if you choose that option under classic models in the Launcher
There is a small issue near the end of Campaign 6, Mission 6. Once all 30 scientists have been killed, you can see Duran talking while you get a cinematic of the zerg unleashing inside the UED base.
However, there is neither voice nor subtitles, so I have no clue what Duran is talking about.
And there's another issue near the end of Campaign 6, Mission 9. After taking out the Protoss base, when Raszagal, Zeratul and Kerrigan are talking, from time to time, Duran's portrait appears, replacing the other portraits, but for only a few seconds, before the other portrait returns. That happens about a dozen times in rapid succession.
Will Mass Recall get the official classic skins for Ultralisk, BattleCruiser and Carrier ?
Is the bug that ruins your game saves fixed yet? It is damn frustrating and unplayable when you lose a lot in Brutal difficulty
In reply to KelthosDK:
Considering that "Save Failed" bug is a bug that plagues SC2 as a whole, I don't see a way for SCMR devs to fix it. The best you can do is work around it.
In reply to kruggov:
I personally do notice it a lot in SCMR, and barely at all in the regular campaigns, so there is something in SCMR that amplifies the chance.
That said, it's easy to work around. The moment you start a new campaign mission, once you gain control, immediately press Ctrl-Q to perform an autosave. If that save is successful, it generally remains successful for the rest of that mission. If the save however fails, then quit to the SCMR main menu, and then load the mission again.
That's because the bug triggers on whatever the game loads AFTER the mission where you reload a save. In the official campaigns it's usually an intermission (Nova campaign being an exception), but in the custom campaigns the intermissions are generally not used, thus the bug is actually noticable.
Any other mac users unable to launch? The "launcher shortcut" is a dead alias with noredirect that isn't drag/droppable...
