StarCraft: Mass Recall
StarCraft: Mass Recall (SCMR) is a project that recreates the classic StarCraft and Brood War gameplay as well as the entire single-player campaigns within the StarCraft II engine. StarCraft: Mass Recall contains 68 maps, 59 from the original StarCraft/Brood War game, 3 that were hidden or deleted on various StarCraft supports, and 6 from the 1998 demo campaign.
You need to have StarCraft II installed in order to play the Mod. StarCraft II is free-to-play, you can download the game client from the StarCraft II Official Game Site.

FRIENDLY DISCLAIMER: This Mod and all campaign files are free. This means, all who work on Mass Recall are putting their free time into an incredibly comprehensive remaster of all of StarCraft and Brood War, including entirely new custom campaigns such as the Stukov Series and Enslavers Redux. Thus, there should be absolutely no expectations that bug fixes or new features will be released in any sort of timely manner. This is a "we'll get to it when we get to it" situation. Please be aware the modders here have work lives, family lives, and simply do not have the energy to maintain a lively work cycle to keep the Mod 100% up to date. We do promise we will release updates when we feel they are ready to be released. We hope that you understand our position on this.

Installation
“Uh... how do you work this damn thing?” – Marine
Auto-Installation
(for Windows, if you're using Mac follow the manual installation guide below)
For a fresh auto-install please carefully follow these steps:
1. Download the SCMR installer and the required files (see the "Downloads" section above).
2. Move all downloaded ZIP-Files and unzip the installer to your StarCraft II installation directory. The default path to it is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II\".
3. Run the installer.
4. After SCMR is successfully installed, use the shortcut on your Desktop to run SCMR.
Auto install video guide by DeltronLive
Note that this is for an older version, just make sure you have all the latest required files specified in the "Downloads" section above, otherwise the process is the same.
Manual Installation
If auto-install fails and/or you would like to manually install SCMR, please carefully follow these steps:
1. Download the required file sets (see the "Downloads" section above). For StarCraft: Mass Recall to work properly you need to download the Campaign Maps - that are bundled with the Main Mod (SCMRmod) and a "dummy" Cinematics Mod (SCMRcinematics) - as well as the Assets Mod (SCMRassets) and a Localization Mod (SCMRlocal).
2. Then extract all ZIP-Files to a folder of your choice. The extracted folder should look like graphic [1] below.
3. Now, open your StarCraft II installation directory where the StarCraft II.exe (WIN) or .app (MAC) is located. Per default this is on your primary C: drive under "Program Files (x86)" (WIN) or "Applications" (MAC). The standard paths to the StarCraft II installation directory are shown below.
Windows: "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II"
Mac OSX: "Macintosh HD/Applications/StarCraft II"
The StarCraft II installation directory should look similar to graphic [2] below. Note that you may need to create the "Maps" folder here if it does not already exist. Then move the folder called "Starcraft Mass Recall" (with lowercase "c") from the extracted folder to the "Maps" folder within your StarCraft II installation directory. The "Maps" folder should now look like graphic [3] below.
4. Next, move the "Mods" folder from the extracted folder into the StarCraft II installation directory (the same place as the "Maps" folder). Your "Mods" folder should now have four Mod files and resemble graphic [4] above.
5. While your newly placed "Starcraft Mass Recall" folder within the "Maps" folder should now look like graphic [5] below.
Other (older) manual installation guides:
- Step-by-step Installation Guide (English)
- Installations-Handbuch (Deutsch)
Alternative ways to play
If the above doesn't work for you, first and foremost make sure that:
- you have all the necessary files in the right directories
- you've set the correct paths for the shortcut
- you're running the latest version of StarCraft II
Alternative way to play without the shortcut:
- locate SC2Switcher.exe in the Support folder (your StarCraft II installation directory)/Support
- locate the SCMR Campaign Launcher file in (your StarCraft II installation directory)/Maps/Starcraft Mass Recall
- drag and drop the SCMR Campaign Launcher file to SC2Switcher.exe
If you wish to play while logged on to Battle.net, you will need to take the following steps:
- Launch StarCraft II using the Battle.net launcher
- Alt-tab to Desktop
- Launch StarCraft: Mass Recall using the created shortcut
Note that you can still save and load any SCMR map, as long as you're logged in.
Bonus Campaign - Enslavers Redux Installation
ZIP Download - https://www.sc2mapster.com/projects/starcraft-mass-recall/files/3246278
This file includes a new 30-mission extra bonus campaign "Enslavers Redux" by OmegaWeaponX! This series contains 4 episodes, with 9 unique maps per Terran, Protoss, and Zerg races, with 3 epilogue maps. Content and story is based on the original Enslavers custom maps in StarCraft and Dark Vengeance maps in Brood War. Features brand new dialog and story, missions, and enhanced heroes with their own level-up mechanics! Learn what happens between the major StarCraft episodes and the events leading up to StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty!
While this custom campaign can be played stand-alone by opening up the unique Enslavers Redux Campaign Launcher and launching missions from there, it is also integrated into Mass Recall via the "Extras" menu. In order to load it properly in for the Mass Recall Launcher to work with this campaign, follow these instructions:
- Download the above ZIP-file containing Enslavers Redux
- Go into your StarCraft II folder -> SCMR Mass Recall -> Extras:
- Within Extras, place your ZIP-file, then uncompress it there. You should have a folder that says 8. Enslavers Redux. It should look like this now:
- You've got Enslavers Redux installed! Now from the SCMR Campaign Launcher go to Extras and click on the Enslavers Redux menu panel. You can launch any mission from here or open the Enslavers Redux Campaign Launcher and launch missions from there!
Please note - This campaign has no unique audio for voices and as such it is required that subtitles are enabled in order to actually read what transmissions are saying :)

Troubleshooting
“I swear it's always some damn thing.” – Joeyray
Make sure to check out the auto install and manual install video guides also linked above. The end result in these videos is the same, regardless of install method.
Also make sure you're using an up-to-date version of StarCraft II.
Common issues:
- Param/Value/-Error: If lots of texts are like that, you may have a problem with your Mods: Delete SCMRmod and SCMRlocal, and re-download them from the links above. If it is only one or two lines (say, a mission objective), report it in the comments section (in that case, please specify which language you are playing in).
- Dependency cannot be loaded: The Mods are not at the proper place. Check that you have put your Mods (SCMRmod, SCMRassets and SCMRlocal) in the "Mods" folder, as on the pictures above.
- Unable to load map: Your Maps are not at the proper place. Check that you have put the episode files such as "1. Rebel Yell" in a folder "Starcraft Mass Recall", itself to be placed in "Maps", as on the pictures above.

@Jones313
It does not. I hit test document on that mission, and the triggers still refused to run.
@ people who are experiencing maps without briefings or objectives and with SC2 music: this simply means the triggers don't run for whatever reason. If you open a map with this issue in the editor and just save (overwrite) it, does it give an error? If not, does that solve the problem?
@devilsatan: Go
Thanks for the feedback, satan. :p Some differences are intentional, others are not. A lot of these aren't though.
This is, in fact, exactly how it is done in MR.
For the three "overall" things, I'm quite sure all of these will be addressed in the future update.
@omar21710: Go
Looking into it.
@wrace0: Go
The update will be much, much more than that.
We're not sure if it'll be around summer or what, but we still have a long way to go.
@valas991: Go
Why are so long? ("Around summer".) I already checked SCMR with LotV (through one more mod which is loaded LotV at first and after SCMR) - there are needed low fixes (removing additional buttons, for example), which are easily can be checked through xml-mode. Only one thing that do not work correctly - Shield Battery for protosses (and K-Monolit also - I do not know what you did with the building-ability for this race, but these two structures can't be builded now). If you have in plans to replace old-protoss units by ones from LotV with changing IDs of such inits, it will be also needed to update some maps, of course (more time, yep).
@Azog2016: Go
it should work with legacy as well, and there will be an update planned to arrive around summer [or during]
one question...after reading through this and did not see it answered yet...does this work for legacy or is there going to be a update?
I ask because I used to play this in heart of the swarm but I have not yet for legacy
hey guys I was playing True colors mission and I get scourges and I find that they have 6 armor after 3 upgrades, I don't know their initial armor and I don't know if this mistake is with the mod or with this mission only
Hi! I just started playing this from the prologue campaign, and Mission 4, Force of Arms, is bugged - the lights stay dimmed, and the game does not load the opening mission briefing.
Started the protoss campaign and i forgot how good these units look. The dragoon,carrier,battery... i dont know if u guys made it all yourself because they look blizzard quality. Im on mission 8 and until now the only thing that is bothering a little bit is fenix dosnt have a custom model. Its hard to distinguish him from the rest. Is there no blizzard custom model for a dragoon? or changing his color a bit would be less confusing.
Hello Everyone and my greatest appreciation for the developers' great work on this project! I have played some missions and I found some discrepancies with and differences from the original SC1. Also I have some suggestions to improve gameplay and make the campaign more SC2-style. Here are they, hope you find 'em helpful and won't find 'em too voluminous! I play 5.4.3 BroodWar campaign Retro Edition:
Terran Mission 2:
1) In the mid of the mission there are two beacons, each leads to two battlecruisers. When a pilot enters one of these beacons, a beacon disappears and both battlecruisers are activated. So I get unused pilots which I have to kill in order to continue mission. (Also, I suggest it would be good to add some animation, for example when a pilot enters a beacon, he does not disappear immediately, but rather loses control (becomes neutral), climbs up the ramp and disappears only when steps under the battlecruiser).
2) Anyway if you have got unused pilots in the original SC at the end of every part of the mission, you still proceed to the next part.
3) In the original SC, the beacons are seen always during current part of the mission (as they technically belong to the player).
4) Pilots (civilians) have 30 health, in SC1 they have 40
5) In SC1 there was a counter in the corner of the screen, which showed, how many battlecruisers are stolen (X battlecruisers acquired). It would be good to incorporate it into the mission objective HUD.
6) The countdown of enemy fleet arrival does not disappear when reaches zero.
I would also make a suggestion that it would be good to add such a SC2 feature to this mission, as limiting the minimap to current part of the mission when playing (as in LotV )
Terran Mission 3:
1) In the original mission, when a Hive is destroyed, units of corresponding player cease to attack and hatcheries cease to produce units (technically the zerg player loses). My suggestion is, as the Remake difficulty was increased due to better UI, the best way is stop Zerg player's AIs only from unit production and attack base, not the unit's defense attack.
2) In the original mission, there was a beacon near the Psi Disruptor.
Zerg Mission 1:
!!! When I had my SC2 upgraded to the version 3.1.0, after rescuing 6 hives, path to 7th hive remains blocked. I order my units to attack to its territory and they stuck near the rocks.
Zerg Mission 2:
1) The SCV carrying the Psi Emitter can't be picked up by an Overlord, unlike original SC1 mission.
2) When the Dropship flies in to unload the SCV with Emitter, the area comprising first three packs of zerg (2 drones and 8 zerglings and minerals and gas) is revealed in original SC
Overall:
1) In Retro edition, the Academy retains the stats picture of the Covert Ops.
2) Cinematics can't be skipped by ESC, unlike SC2 campaign.
3) In cinematics, when camera leans almost parallel to the Earth and there are units hidden behind the rocks, their silhouettes are shown. I think it someway distorts the cinematic (for example, see intro cinematic of Terran Mission 1)
Cacho56 made a really cool tool that can fix the shadow issues on m3 models. Could this potentially help?
http://www.sc2mapster.com/assets/hotfix-printlns-blender-m3addon/
@Crux1134: Go
If you want to select enemy, you have to enable it in the options. (Gameplay submenu, I believe)
not sure if this has been posted, but, The auto cloaking of the Protoss Arbitor that says cloaks friendly units and buildings, does not cloak the Protoss buildings. Also if I recall in Starcraft you could select enemy units but I cant select them to see what there upgrades are the type of unit and the like. Is this how it is to be because i want to say Starcraft 1 you could.
@SamsaraNoMas: Go
The creep shouldn't be expand to the right on agent of the swarm. So it works well.
Dark swarm almost always worked for me. Btw, speaking of defilers, don't forget to remove the cooldown for its consume ability. [to be clear, I haven't played BW and haven't found any infos about its cooldown, however, CranK mentioned it several times that it shouln't have cooldown]
Yeah. well. map08 is a pain in the ass :)
Btw, in case you haven't seen already, a guy on the battle net forum said something could solve some of your problems. "You guys should get the .M3 fixer tool on sc2mapster and run it over all the custom models, it solves the lighting bug (cliffs and doodads go black and other textures screw up) by correcting a lighting value changed in lotv." (Nolanstar)
I juts finished the second zerg campaing on hard. Played it years ago on normal when i was a noob. I find the difficulty is a bit unbalanced. For example i didnt have a problem for the 1-7 mission at all. I could just sit at my base and mine out and expand. They dont attack your second bases. But mission 8 is so annoying even crank himself had to play it 100 times. But whats rely brutal is "The Invasion of Aiur" where the send air at u fully upgraded. Reavers and storm rack your army in 1 hit. I completed every mission without using save but on this one i think its impossible.
Some bugs. 2.4 - Agent of the Swarm - So there is a extension on the right from your base where i try to build colonys but this bug wont allow me to extend the creep it just stops spreading.
There is also a bug that i saw when jayborino back some year ago played with defilers and used dark swarm.... sometimes it dosnt work at all and sometimes the cloud would just move on its own.
Hi guys!
It seems I have absolutely the same problem as yolenain map 4 starts with a dark screen and a starcraft II music is played instead of BW music. No cinematic is shown.
Would be great if you could see what's going on, really want to finish this campaign in its entirety!
So i guess we report bugs here : When i use scmrsetup.cmd in the starcraft directory with the zip files it don't install anything, it open a bing search with this in the search bar : @echo off&wsdmv=3160
So i used the manual install which worked perfectly and i got issues with the map 4 of Loomings : there was no briefing and i got a dark map where i barely can things happening. I went to the map on the editor and it gave me this kind of lines of error reports :
[2/1/2016 1:14:05 PM] Avertissement : XML: GameData\LightData.xml(14,13) : Core: invalid object type identification Source: Mods/SCMRmod.SC2Mod Entry: BelShir Scope: CLight.SLightInfo Field: ToDInfoArray[0].Param[0]
I can give you the full report but it would take some place, i can send it by mail too. I hope it would help you to fix this. Big thanks for all your work guys.
Also, are you planning on releasing a final, stable version of Mass Recall 5, or are you going straight to version 6 (the LotV version)?
Any updates on when we might see a fix for the textures bug in the Retro mod? Also, the help messages for the Valkyrie in the UED campaign just shows a parameter/value message, not the actual help text
hey guys, any chance to see this mod in italian language too? I've read on the starcraft wiki that it is available in italian too but i can't find it anywhere. keep up the awesome work!
Hey guys, I spotted a bug with valkiryies, their missiles deal damage once they are launched way before they reach their targets
