So Iv been getting into the SC2 map editor, i'm very new to all of it so I wont understand fancy terms. I'm making a space Battle style map and while creating my units i have had the issue of all my missile using units shooting their missiles from the ground, then they travel to their targets correctly, the problem is that the missiles start on the ground! and that kinda looks silly in space. i hear things about launch attachment points but i cant figure any of that stuff out, i need someone to explain it to me in stupid person talkz.
You need to create Action actor for Your weapon, set correct Tokens, and set Combat: Launch Site Ops to correct site op attachment. Check Marine Attack for reference.
So by when you say action actor you mean the same actor that launches the projectile? What tokens. whats the "correct" launch ops, looking through the list makes no sense to me as its a wall of names with no rhyme or reason to the names, and looking at the marine attack I don't quite get it, what is SOpAttachHamess. And on another note, i'm now having a problem with a new unit i made, its projectiles do no damage when firing, but as soon as I stop attacking it does the damage of one attack, in addition to this when i move the attack target closer (I'm talking right on top of the unit firing) about half the attacks do damage.
Well iv found the weapon attach point(s) i would like to use however i'm still not sure how to tie the launch actor to the correct attachment point. Looking through the list of options under the launch site ops has given me no clues whatsoever i'm afraid. In addition to this does shrinking the model change the attachment points with it or will i have to make new ones, if so how.
Sorry I haven't had much time recently for map editing, tonight iv been messing around with it following your steps, I kinda got lost when we got to the finding the attachment point that I want, I cant find anything by the name of the attachment point I want. i'm not really sure what to do at this point, then again i haven't had to much time to work in the editor recently. for more specifics as you might have seen i'm trying to make a hero unit based on the gorgon. so far it works all as planed until I fire the weapon, it fires from the ground as you know and only does damage sometimes. I have also shrunk the model a great amount if that has any effect on it. if you need to give you more specifics on the unit or the problem let me know, or if you need more screenshots.

Hello there sleipnir, and welcome to sc2mapster.
Things hasn't been the same here, since the web migration and everyones PM was deleted.
But I will try to help as much as I can.
First, you need to know if the unit in question have the proper attach point.
For example, I will show you a ghost attach point.
Picture 1 :
1. Open a map [any map is fine].
2. Click on the unit tab [U].
3. At the new tab type Ghost, scroll until you find the unit.
4. At the unit tab, scroll until you find model, click on it.
5. Double click on the Ghost.m3 and a new tab preview will open.
6. Click on the "view in cutscene editor" and wait.
Picture 2 :
1. In the cutscene editor, click render, and enable the view attach point.
2. Press SHIFT + D to open the model data tab.
3. Click on the Ref_Weapon, and you can see the attach point of the model.
The game will launch the weapon projectile model [missile, bullet, beam, etc] at the unit weapon attach point, in this case, the Ref_Weapon.
Ok, now you know how to see a unit available attach point.
Next, try to open your unit, see if that unit have a weapon attach point.
If not, the data will launch the weapon at default available attach point of the unit, which is the ground/origin.
Good luck.

Welcome back.
Alright, first problem is solved.
Said unit does have weapon attach points.
Now to make sure the projectile model launch from that specific point.
Here is one example of linking the projectile to the launch point.
I use a Photon Cannon as an example.
Picture 1.
1. Open a map [any map is fine].
2. Click on the unit tab [U].
3. At the search tab type photon, scroll until you find the photon cannon
4. At the unit tab, scroll until you find unit weapon, right click and select "view linked weapon".
Picture 2.
1. In the weapon tab scroll down and look for the "Photon cannon Attack" and click on it.
2. On the right tab look for "launch attachment query" and double click on it.
3. A new tab will open.
Picture 3.
1. In the new tab, click the + icon.
2. In the right tab, search for the name of weapon attach point.
3. A list will pop up, showing all the weapon attach name.
4. Click the one matching the unit's weapon attach point name [or where you want the projectile to launch from].
5. Click ok.
Ok, now you know how to link a weapon projectile to a unit weapon attach point.
Next open your unit's weapon and repeat the process.
Good luck.

Ahh, I see. Sure. Real life come first right.
The Gorgon ? And you want the weapon to fire from the head ?
Just click on the one with "Filter head" on it and it should work.
Ref_head -> filter head.
Ref_weapon01 -> filter weapon 01
Etc.
