yeah okay, he dumb.. but WE at mapsters know WE can fix it
<3
ahhahahahaha :D
On topic: i rather hope it isn't laziness that spawned this question. Laziness from the writing of the lore.
The only blur i got was that "they are differentiated" .. most are zealots and or variation of that (ergo artanis or templars) and grills...
few .. and "well placed" zealots that dress and look differently and AS terrans WE identify these special zealots (or whatever horse looking humanoid) as female rather than a male counterpart gone crossdressing.. no?
i'm not invested in the lore but love screenplays as exercises or something.. and the differences with the three races is pivotal to the success of sc.. and i must admit the whole matriarch bid worked well for the zerg differentiation (and i expected more out of the "zurg without a brood" thread of the story :) and was dissapointed really.. :( )
..
but as far as the protoss 'our elders" (as zerg is "younger" than terrans, the pro toss came before) go?
They are very poorly characterized, and things like WTF they ain't all dudes .. here comes two chicks (and yes i type it like that because blizzard storytold it to me like that!) .. we won't tell you anything about them.. we didnt tell you anything about the zealots" why would we bother with the the sexy templar ?
The protoss for me, when sc1 came out .. they seemed like something promissing.. but besides the kala storyline, we don't get much meat to replenish our curiosity when it comes to the bases of that part of the lore.
I miss the "every day" simple things like
- how are they born? If they were not born, what are their physical shell drawn out / made from?
- how bout a zealot pillow fight
or even just a picture of a field of gene pools..
something?
edit: wow i - just - got - IT!
that's for sc3 .. the prequel of sc1.. when we go back to the primitive horses in the meadow.. they had sex then.. doggy style.. but then the evil xelnaga took them and made them sterile and more "pure" ???
In respect to the original question, well Protoss get energy from sun and starlight through their skin (they also breathe through their skin) this info is from the official Field Manual BTW as well as the Dark Templar trilogy of novels. This is why Protoss cover so little of their skin. If they did full cover their skin they may well suffocate (I imagine Artanis' armour really 'breathes' ;) )
As such, based on the only real world example I can think of (plants) it's possible Protoss reproduce in a similar fashion. However I don't know enough about plants to know how that is x) but there's no reason to assume that just because Blizzard haven't specifically addressed it that, like Jayborino says, they don't 'do it' in much the same way Humans do =P
The humanlike traits such as boobs and nipples are almost certainly purely design-derived as visual cues for us humans to tell male and female characters apart. A notable factor supporting this idea is that female Protoss do not have particularly big boobs, just enough to help with the feminine curves. Ultimately it's not too different to why Protoss eye and eyebrow expressions are humanlike - to make them relatable to the human viewer.
this thread needs to get outta here, along with anyone who actually cares about the specifics of "Protoss bangin" also, Stop trying to inject your tumblr pseudo science into the starcraft """""lore"""""". You can fantasize about how zeratul and artanus (xxssj4goku420xx) don't have gender roles all you want, it doesn't make it any less retarded. Take a hike into the side of a blizzard rock formation you bad baby bitch
Oh right I forgot, apparently trolling these days is just being a fucking idiot then yelling PRANKED. I remember when trolling was fun and intelligent and not being a little shitmouthed bitch.
You might want to apologize for this comment, Justin.
Another question, if Protoss do have children, how old does a Protoss have to be before it is no longer considered a child? If I recall correctly in Broodwar Artanis is about 200 years old, yet Judicator Aldaris treats him like a child, yet if he was considered old enough to become a warrior, I'd guess 200 years for a Protoss is around 18-20 years old for a Terran.
It probably is something like 150-200, but the most info you'll find on this is probably in one of those books they created and then retconned years ago.
OK so in 2013 I think, I was at Blizzcon and myself and the SCU team cornered Metzen. We asked a couple of questions and one from Creation25 was how do Protoss reproduce. Straight from the lips of the man himself, the Nerazim get it on just like humans.
I forget specifically what he said about the Khalai. I think he described it similar to the Navi from Avatar. It'd be weird if the Nerazim had sex and the Khala didn't though, so maybe he meant if was super ritualistic.
Now he was drinking like everyone else but I don't think he would lie because it's not like it was an interview or something he'd have to own up to at some point.
At first probably. I'm still super confused as to why nipples or even the female Protoss breasts exist though. I haven't given it too much thought but it'd be hard for a mouth less alien to use them lol.

I really enjoy the idea of Protoss being pollinated and germinated, personally.
Of all the places to get pissed off in.
you chose this thread?
and that's coming from an angry guy like me.
the Protoss reproduce by budding.
sources? information? brain cells? You can't just make assertions with no proof. Take a hike, like that guy said. hehe xd

Haha so everyone who said "Zeratul has nipples so protoss must have sexes" would probably go crazy over what you said. That's actually interesting imo
