HELLO EPIC PEOPLE. I SEE YOU ALL NOTICED THE AWESOME APRIL FOOLS WTE YESTERDAY?!
GOOD, CAUSE ITS TIME FOR SOMETHING REAL. THIS WEEKS THEME IS GONNA BE "MICHAEL BAY YEAHRRRR". WHAT DOES THIS MEAN, YOU ASK? WHY ARE YOU ASKING, DAMMIT?! TERRAINS WITH EXPLOSIONS OF COURSE. AND EPIC BATTLES. AND BRO'S. AND SHOUTING. BEST WTE EVER GODDAMN IT.
Here is my first attempt at this. I was reminded as to how annoying it was to catch action without going in game because like 95% of the explosion and impact and launch models only show in the game and are paused in the editor so that they look like nothing. So here is what I could accomplish within the editor without starting a game.
true lol, however remember when you could turn the multiplyer up on a doodad to make it glow a color? if used correctly, it was extremely helpful, but it seems to no longer allow you to make it glow. Did they p - coughbreak -patch it?
Anyway, while I work on a piece for this, my current map project is shockingly similar to this WTE. Really... all you do in it is watch 2 AIs attack each other with waves of units, and the map ends in a shower of nukes.

That's all I can do!
Call me lazy, but I'll just pit this up here for the sake of contribution and (possibly) inspiration. I've been pretty swamped with work this week, and might not be able to make an entry.
...Moz and others, you might find this familiar...
Ah, what the heck, I might as well make it even more crazy (as in, crazy awesome).
The terrain itself seems a tad bland, but there's more than enough explosions to make up for that perhaps there could be more ground units/siege tanks or such also causing explosions on the terrain itself.
I took about 1h30-2h to make the terrain, but what I wanted to do is the camera stuff and not a whole City. So by the end, I got bored a little and before leaving I just rushed to the camera. I replaced my cameras at least 10 times because it was not doing what I want. Then I stopped on a set up that was "fine". I installed Fraps to record the video... I had between 6 and 15 fps... sorry, my comp just can't hold making videos. I also recorded the nuke falling at least 15 times cause the marine death animation was either a blood splat or not in fire enough in the screen... Then I wanted to add a fadeout at the end. I installed Windows movie maker because I am used to it, I made all my other videos with it...though, this new version is...um... I have no word how to say how much this is a fail. No timeline at all, I didn't even know how to add a simple fade out!!! So I asked a friend and he told me to use Sony Vegas Pro. I installed Sony Vegas Pro, took a little moment. Then I had to find how this program works, how to do the fadeout I wanted. Then I rendered the video 3 times because the other times the format was either uber huge for nothing or had visual bugs in it...And I have a background noise that I just don't know why I have it. And the size of the video is quite wrong.
Anyway, all this to say, it took as long rendering the video as making the terrain and triggers. So, be happy, I got my video, with a fadeout at the end OH YEAH! I don't have my general intro that I used in almost all my videos, I didn't want to mess up more.
All this, for this 29 sec. Hahahahaha. It's making me think to North Korea though... I just hope what I've created in this video ain't going to be real.
My first idea was camera folowing a missile in 3th person from something that launch it like a tank or whatever and land similarly to this video. Though, this would have required a bigger map with more terrain and maybe data editing and more trigger and so on... so I changed my plan for something more simple before I lose too much patience. Would have been cool, but I can't do everything.
I GOT THE SHOT :D I was inspirted by the background on my computer lol, could have done a bit more but want to get the contribution in before the week is up. The second pic is a nice modification to the lighting focusing on the flash the nuke makes. This took allot more data work than I expected.
Very nice work there Scbrood, the camera spin was really well done :D
I've been working in the last days on a minigame map. I was wondering what people would like to see. We know that good minigame maps are...inexistent except the Raynor's Party... I want to make a game of more than 128 minigames. We have to beat the SC1 Minigame Party map that had 128 minigames... if the SC2 editor can't beat it, this would be a fail. Haha. Feel free to post ideas or whatever encouragement. Take a look at:
I will probably post my tough about every minigames I make the same way I did here. So anyone can see that even if you don't know alot of the editor you can still drill and work and create something great.
Hey, do you mind posting the map file? Maybe I could try to render it with more success =). Besides that, the content of the video was awesome! Great camerawork, but I would work on smoothing it out (unless what I saw was purely an error of the frame rate).
As for minigames, try (if you've not thought of these already):
Tag
(I'm no data/trigger expert, so I'm not sure if triggers can be randomly selected but...) Blind Zombies: 1 - 2 players are picked as zombies, and their screens go black. They have to run blindly around the map, in attempt to catch others. If someone is gotten, they too become a blind zombie. If all players become zombies, the original zombies and 1-2 random other zombies are winners. If even one person evades zombies for the duration of the game, they win. Note - the area for this game should be relatively cramped, and the players move at moderate speeds, while zombies move faster)
Thinking of a Mario Party 2 game, in that you all line up, and go one-by-one to a stand where you pick one of a few switches. One of these switches kills them, and the others are safe. If they choose a safe switch, that switch is locked, lowering the available switch count for each player. If a killer switch is pressed, the player is out, and the switches reset. Number of switches decreases as remaining player count lowers. See the attached image for the MP2 minigame I'm referencing.
Well supriseingly few attempts all things concentered. Gotta set everything up just right, get your camera angle, make sure the explosion is spectacular enough then spam the printSc button lol
On a serious note, it took a couple of tries to get a good shot and being an artist I know it could be better, but I don't want to spend the extra 4 hours getting the golden perfect moment. I would say it took me 5 or 6 tries to get the shot I wanted and about 40 shots were deleted, pressing it 5 or 6 times per round of shots.
The nuke is actually 4 nukes, 2 of them dropped slightly earlier to get those red streaks and 2 slightly later to get the full mushroom cloud effect, and all 4 make a really bright nuke. It is also scaled 5 times larger on the X and Y axis and 2.5 in the Z axis, 2.5 in the Z axis because any larger and the mushroom was out of the shot. all 4 made a spectacularly bright nuke that I could work with at this angle, seeing as starcraft is meant to be viewed as a top down game, some of the models need a bit of tweaking in order to get these angles (trees for example...) The lighting was a bit screwy at times, seeing as the skybox can be difficult to tint, any more explosions would have complicated matters. One large explosion is easy to manage, multiple ones take more time and patience to get just right. The more variables, the more that can go wrong.
Well in any case I, for whatever reason, got the urge to do something with your image, and voila! I messed around in After Effects to see what I could get out of it.

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
It's atrocious and didn't come out the way I wanted, but I heard explosions in the description and couldn't resist...

Prepare your hard drive for a million screenshots to get the explosions right!

@joecab: Go
Supposedly it still works, but only visible in-game. I haven't tested it yet myself.
@Telthalion: Go
Hmm, wonder why they did that...
Anyway, while I work on a piece for this, my current map project is shockingly similar to this WTE. Really... all you do in it is watch 2 AIs attack each other with waves of units, and the map ends in a shower of nukes.

Dont mention that reject director, He decided to make a TMNT movie, where they are no longer turtles, mutants, or teenagers, but aliens -_-
He rapes my childhood evey movie he makes. if you wanna make a michael bay movie, just remove all the units and put simple shapes :))
also was it really necessary to put GD in the title -_-
Call me lazy, but I'll just pit this up here for the sake of contribution and (possibly) inspiration. I've been pretty swamped with work this week, and might not be able to make an entry.

Hmm...where have I seen this before...
I see the explosions...it fits the theme...but I've got this feeling in my gut...
Hmm...
I feel I need Moz's avatar for this...
