Having set ourselves up with a theme of autumn two weeks back, we're now rapidly approaching Christmas and the start of the new year. Most folks spend these days with family or just generally celebrating, and as such, this WTE is going to stay up for a bit (until 2015, the 6th). With the theme being "Christmas & New Year 2014", any terrains adhering to this theme go during all this time. If you feel like making a huge StarCraft-related Christmas tree, knock yourself out! You want to create a fireworks show as viewed from Mengsk's palace? Be my guest! Just have yourself a good time and, if you get some terraining done in all this time, feel free to put it up here.
Merry days and an early happy new year to all of you!
Original use of doodad :) Someone in the past year made a tree with snow and christmass balls on it made of many many doodads. Try to go through all doodads and see their WHOLE potential through scale, rotate, pitch, roll, tint, hdr and combining with other doodads.
Wow impressive. You just put enough doodads to make it comfortable and I think that you're the one who has the farthest progression since the beginning in WTEs!
Thank you I tatatatate. I though with all the assets in sc2mapter I will find some good ones for this one but theres is really nothing christmas like models.
Thank you for your comments Tatatatate.
This is the rest of the map, this is a map i made just see if could deal with the show textures as they have proven to be the hardest on the editor to master.
Hmmm nice job, but I think you could improve it a bit.
The concrete texture is weird and it doesn't fit in your terrain. A simple road with snow around it would be perfect. If you absolutely want to put texture, you should replace the concrete with ice or you could put a rocky road and lower it with height to make it more real. Also if you want a tip, a texture normally comes for a specific reason (more sunny place, fast height difference like mountain, highly circulation area, etc.) so you could place a general texture for dead flat area and mix it with something else depending on the circumstance.
About your trees, your idea is very interesting (because normally in winter we don't have leafy trees), but I think you should replace it with conifer or more exotic trees like on aiur or xil. Or you could place a shield who create a warmer climate for your trees.
Also your water facility is very nice and you should put a row of pipes to show that it is installed in a remote location. these pipes could be next to your road ;)
Do you still have your map? I think I could try something with it if you want.
I kinda like the tree, though the red bark doesn't fit but I understand the limitations here.
I kinda agree with the concrete textures though, I think you could blend those a bit better or something. I would agree though snow is definitely the hardest tile set to get to look good. I don't know if it's because the textures aren't great or what but I think they're hard to blend well.
I gave up on the map textures they are really difficult to mix for my self I see no way around that.
As for the trees yes they can be change but giving that this is and alien environment I say anything goes its way better than what I can do. "You go girl"
Thank you both, snow textures are really a pain and yet something I will love to master! I will say not to give up but continue practicing with out trowing the computer out the window because thats how it feels sometimes with those specific textures.

I totally agree with this. I remember some of your early terrains where i was like "eh yeah, it's a start, and a mess" but never said it was only garbage. You have your own specefic way of thinking about terraining. That's great.
About the terrain with the red trees, I very like the contrast it makes red/while. It's realyl unusual yet very interesting. The only thing here is fitting the red tree correctly in the environment... that is lacking. They are nice, but need something to make them more combined with the terrain around. I agree also about the concrete texture, you should really think of what you want to do, if its a snow-ice terrain only then just remove the concrete and make it like a forest. If it's a city somehow, add more city elements. Try to keep in mind the logic scale, a tree is rarely as big as a big building (in general). So maybe buildings should be slightly bigger and a little bit more detailled or make tree slightly smaller and more in groups, maybe? Like, we all have different vision about how it could be improved, some are mutually exlusive, but its up to you to find out what could be best :P
lol, funny really I look back at all the WTE and really i feel bad that i was not playing with the editor earlier. Through theres some cool maps out there and some kick butt teams perhaps is time for me to be part of it maybe 2015 will be a good year. Now when do I get the Mozared WTE certificate? :-)
Now when do I get the Mozared WTE certificate? :-)
You got that when you first joined; the WTE is about impressing each other with awesome terrains and improving, and participating is the biggest step to achieving that.
Please don't mistake my lack of posts for disinterest. I still like what everybody's making, I just often don't have a lot to comment (or the time or willpower to give specific constructive feedback).
You probably mean 2015? And not 2016 :P And no need for someone's certificate if you believe in yourself. You can make very great things happend Wargirl.
Finally I got a picture of what I speaked. It's sure that it needs a bit of polish, but it gives a good example.
I played with texture mainly, but I also modify the height and lighting to break as most as possible the snow texture. I added some snow doodad who have a different texture too.
I don't know if I can put the map in the thread, so I just put the picture. Let me know if I can bring the map.
Happy new year to all the WTE contributors I will be heading home for a few days.
Now that map is looking for a happy home and somebody that can make something out of it.
Im glad you like the dome addition. I cant remember if i saw that somewhere of if i did that.
The true is that i look at at everybody's work and pick something from here and there.
There is this map Space colonies by SheogorathSC and that just looks fantastic from 2013. I was just looking at it at how cool and detail it is.
I learn from everybody I just want to say thank you and thank you also for sharing some of your maps.

already the fifth edition of christmas WTE, even if the first was not very specific.
I think that Brood will agree with me, holidays in canada fits perfectly with snowmobile. So take your girlfriend and go on the tracks!
