Slowly making it through all of the stuff that came through after the end of the year. There was a lot! Not just from you guys. I'm still going to put together a larger list, but for those of you that are following this thread I wanted to let you guys know since I got swamped the moment I stepped back into the office.
We've put in a temporary fix for the site wide limit on file attachments on the forums (by upping it to a large amount) - but will be removing the restriction altogether for this community in the future. Test this and let me know if it works, if not I'll go throw hotdogs at the developers!
I have a list of other little things I hope to have fixed up for you guys by the end of next week. Don't get your hopes up too high, but I'm focusing on things like the reply feature in the forums, embeds, attachments etc. I want to get the community features and content creation tools back to full speed.
Thanks for being thorough. My team/group project was wiped out. I started it in 2012 and I had about 30 people in it. We had a few assets that we shared within ourselves and those are gone too :( I didn't rely on it much but it was useful for contacting people I couldn't get in touch with on Skype, and it was a front for recruiting to our group, which was aimed at teaching and working with anyone who was interested in the sc2 editor. 24/7 support for any questions.. instead of googling or scouring the internet, you just aked us. We had an Icon that we'd put in our loading screens that represented Team Genesis(name of the group), and the Skype group is still active today... just without the group/project page on sc2mapster. It is a bit crippling to the growth process, as well as anyone else trying to coordinate group projects.... which most games require more than 1 person to make, as people usually specialize in certain areas, so taking the "Teams" page away makes no sense to me.
Yea I think we lost the majority of any of our older projects that we had in the team pages/forums, which isn't the end of the world but some kind of warning would've been nice.
Any chance for a "dark mode" or something like it, all this white is searing my retinas.
That said I like the direction that this change has taken, but it all changed so quick and stuff has been removed like teams and reputation, not to mention all the formatting changes in any old forum posts. I'm not even sure how to re-access any team pages.
This site was strongest in the WoL 2010-2012 days. Currently, I believe many folks visit, but not as many participate as in the past. We're actively trying to increase that, specifically by getting the poll and current events updated after they've been stale for quite some time. The community testing thread is new and an effort to bring folks together to test maps that might go under the radar.
I do think there's a lot to offer here though and there are some of us doing our best to make it known that there is still a lot of activity here so others will come visit :)
Some changes are definitely needed for sure. I think a large overhaul or a new site would help increase traffic of mappers but it's unrealistic. People just don't have the free time to be spending on maps these days it seems.
It's been done before yes. It's better then using just triggers but it's likely not as good as a pure data method may be, though I'd have to test the data one to tell you.
The Zerg look cool now when they are supposed to make you sick.
Same with the Protoss body design. They used to resemble creepy high tech aliens and their skin reminded me of greys and aliens that fly UFOs. Now Artanis should be in a steroids commercial. Yes they look cooler. They aren't supposed to though.
I agree wholeheartedly with you here and I think the game would've been better had it kept that style of art. However these days that's not the trend for mainstream video games and movies. People go for the "cooler" design that blizzard currently employs, and obviously blizzard is trying to sell their games as much as possible. If the graphics catch the consumer's eye then that's what they shoot for. I think if they had continued along the more bleak path with the game it would have more of a cult following and wouldn't have the same access it has to the large league pool they have now.
This tutorial is almost 6 years old. Things have changed and a lot wont work the way it used to. You're better off asking in the data section as onetwo hasn't even logged in in 3 years.
in tis case it sounds more like a download deletion. A lot of things that arent uploaded in.zip format are deleted. This likely is in the same category.
I got more out of this than I thought I would. I really appreciate you posting it and your description. This is much more complex than anything I think I would ever attempt, but one can never know enough about actors!

Wow the lens flare is an impressive touch. Those kind of effects can be really touchy in the CE.

Nice model guy! Can't wait to see it in heavy action!

Battlegrounds is by people from Team Genesis. Though the members aren't particularly active here on mapster. Can't speak for the others though.
