Well, it works. People have been able to download it, but only after I copy+pasted the link. I tried to log out, couldn't download it. This is confusing, to say the least. :D
To be fair, I have no idea what's going on with that. You uploaded a file, I can find it under downloads, it says 'needs approval' but I can download the file as any other. I can't find any specific way to approve the 'file' - the queue I talked about is for approving whole projects only. Are you sure the download doesn't work for non-mods?
Last time I uploaded something I could download it even if it wasn't approved and I wasn't logged in.
All files approved after the Crimson project page was launched has been SC2Map files, so it look like zip files are the type of files that are not accepted.
Been working on a mission launcher. See pictures below. Far from finished, though the tedious work of creating functional buttons is just about finished.
Just wanted you guys to know I'm still working on this. It would go a lot faster if it weren't for my exams, but I have only one left (on the 10th), so the pace will hopefully pick up after that. I'm planning to wait with releasing any new missions before they're all finished. I don't have any estimated release dates yet.
Mission 7 is almost finished. I just created a rockin' cinematic for that which I'm really satisfied with.
I registered an account just to give you some feedback on the campaign. Here are some of my thoughts and (hopefully constructive) criticisms:
- The map design is excellent. The terrain is gorgeous and space is used efficiently.
- The plot, characters, and setting are interesting. Events move along well in the story.
- The dialogue is pretty bad. It really suffers from an excess of "textbook English" with little variation between characters. A bunch of roughneck miners shouldn't talk like grammar teachers. I realize English probably isn't your first language but it would be worth getting a native speaker to spice up the dialogue a bit! The dialogue in SC2's official campaign is also pretty bad, but this would be one of the easiest parts of the campaign to improve!
-The difficulty curve is uneven. The first two maps were quite easy, but the difficulty went through the roof on Map 3. If you are going to give a sudden jump in difficulty like that you should probably give the player some more instructions (For example, a hint as to which hive to attack first).
Anyhow I hope you finish the campaign. Aside from the SC1 to SC2 conversion campaigns this is by far the most polished CC I've played for SC2.
EDIT: Also the next map in the campaign wouldn't load properly for me after finishing a mission. This happened for me whether I put the maps in the /Maps folder or in a subfolder for the campaign. This could have something to do with me running SC2 in Wine under Linux though.
Thank you for the feedback. Glad you liked it. The third mission is supposed to be a bit difficult, as third missions in StarCraft always are! :D However, I will be making it a bit easier when I release the rest of the missions (which will include changes to older maps as well). Difficulty is a bit hard to test because I know the map so well myself (the fact that I struggled with the third should be the first hint, though).
Is there any specific example of dialogue you didn't like?
I don't know why the mission didn't load. The path should be "Maps/Crimson Moon/Crimson Moon 04 - The Black Khan".
"Is there any specific example of dialogue you didn't like?"
Basically I think that the miners should use more abbrevations in their speech and some more slang. Using very proper English is alright for your mysterious antagonist character, but it's jarring that the marines have such a brash attitude when you click on them (The default SC2 sound files) and then when they speak in cutscenes they are very reserved and proper.
Didn't pay much heed to that. I guess it was more important to me what the characters said as opposed to how they said it.
Mission 8 took longer to complete than I thought. It's a survival mission, which I haven't tried to do before, though then again, that goes for most things in this campaign.
I might release missions 7 and 8 if people are up to it, though did anyone play as far as completing mission 6?
I played up to mission 6 but the text in that mission was buggy for me. It seemed to display the memory addresses for the text instead of the text itself or something. I will try to reproduce the bug.
P.S. Mission 5 was a lot of fun!
EDIT: I reproduced the bug through loading the map with the SC2 Editor. See the attached screenshot.
That happens to me too occasionally. I don't know exactly what does it. Usually when I'm working on a map and test it, it happens. It absolutely never happens if I just open the map and don't do any reconfigurations before I test. I figure if you open the map many times enough, it will work as intended. You might also notice that Janus is named "Spectre", as the bug ignores all changes. The lighting also goes a bit off.
Glad you liked mission 5. I'm not too particularly fond of missions where you just destroy the enemy base to win, but I know a lot of people liked them, and I'd like to touch a lot of bases. I'm really happy with the cinematics, though.
Attached a mysterious, non-spoilery picture from the last mission. Mission 8 is finished, and I'm halfway through #10. Work on the penultimate mission has not yet begun.

This is a translation bug. It was pretty common knowledge back in the days just post-launch. Blizzard seems to have fixed it mostly, but it still occasionally occurs when playing a US-editor-made version of the map with a EU-game-version or vice versa.
Nowadays, I'm not sure if there's an easier fix than this.

I'm being nice today. Two more missions can be played. I've also included a mission launcher. Link here. Just trash the previous files, as this one includes all the new stuff plus all the old things.
How many hours did you put in this project ? 100 ?
Oh , may i can translate the map in Italian ? :)
I don't have an exact figure. I started in 2011 or something, though a lot of that work don't figure in the final release, as I started all over with a new take on the story. I'd reckon I started working on what you can play sometime last summer.
And yeah, just go ahead translating, if you're up to it.
By the way, in case anyone's wondering: I am working towards a very concrete ending, and I hope people play through to see it (and not taking any shortcuts). It is probably the highlight of the story.

It's no stress. People can download it. I'm going to reupload everything when I'm finished with the campaign. Maybe it'll work then.
EDIT: All right, now it works!

Thanks to Terhonator for the idea. :)

I must be having a vacation, because otherwise why would I try to complete the 8th mission in just one day? Here we go!
EDIT: Added a little preview.

How do I delete files in a project?
Wow ... what an amazing project ...
I just opened the maps in the editor ... i want to play this campaign in a single row ..so , i'll wait the final release for gameplay feedback ...
But , for what i can see , the terrain looks very good ... maybe better than blizzard campaign .
How many hours did you put in this project ? 100 ?
Oh , may i can translate the map in Italian ? :)
Haha, that's a thumbs up! :)
I don't think it's that good. :p I use most of the Blizzard maps as inspiration, and I am still amazed of how detailed they are.
