I just finished writing the story. The mission names are as follows:
Yojimbo
Bad Company
Shantytown
All-Clear Signal
The Meridian Method
Revelations
The Mercenary and the Pragmatist
Valley of Blood
Nuclear Annihilation
Old Acquaintances
I'm not getting a lot of mapping done at the moment because of exams, so we will see what happens in summer (I'm going home to my parents, but I am not sure if I am bringing my computer or not).
Either way, I can promise a great story! There will be a lot of twists, and many memorable moments. I tried to pace it a bit like GOT season 4, in the sense that things start happening early on, instead of just building and building and building. So you don't have to wait for the final missions for the big shit to go down.
Yeah, I've actually been working on the terrain for that map. Got bored while reading for exams, and started doodling sketches, then went home and worked on it. The central idea of the map is sort of like the last mission in The Frozen Throne. There are a certain number of nuke towers that you can control. At regular intervals, the towers fire nukes, and whoever doesn't control a tower gets a nuke sent in his direction. The number of controlled towers decide the number of nukes.

Geez, that sounds crazy XD
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
StarCraft II: Annihilation Campaign - A 24 mission single-player campaign featuring unique heroes, custom tracks, boss battles, a varied set of mission scenarios and three intersecting storylines.
A small update: I'm going home to my parents the 16th of June for the summer, and I am probably not taking my stationary with me. So no mapping in the summer, I'm afraid. I might finish the first mission before that, though. I'm halfway done with it already anyway.
I thought I might share some of the plannet gameplay features I have, though (may change):
Mannoeuvre through a temple by solving various puzzles.
Control nuking towers to devastate the enemy.
Gather resources in an environment crawling with expanding Zerg (gonna abuse the bully function here) and swarm hosts.
Assist a large allied protoss carrier as it tears through an enemy base (think Engine of Destruction).
Protect laser cannon operators as they try to destroy enemy leviathans.
Rescue prisoners from a guarded penitentiary.
Use an undercover ally and tactical positioning to snipe enemies from afar.
Fight a three-way war consisting of two terrans and a zerg.
Stage a three-round battle where you choose between three champions, one for each round.
I also have some boss ideas:
An invulnerable protoss who can only be damaged by draining the right tower of energy when he is in the right position.
Pilot a fast thor against a large banshee that flies out of range at regular intervals.
A boss who is protected by shield generators that needs to be drained of energy for him to be damageable.
Fight two oversized warhounds at once and use their slow reaction time to win.
Send your flying armada against a large Leviathan in a macro battle.
Fight a large brutalisk with an accompanied zerg force.

Interesting mission scenarios. Excited to see more about where some of these are going. Some of them doesn't even sound like a campaign mission, but rather some kind of hero game :D (the last one mainly)
StarCraft II: Annihilation Campaign - A 24 mission single-player campaign featuring unique heroes, custom tracks, boss battles, a varied set of mission scenarios and three intersecting storylines.
The gameplay is largely derived from the story, although sometimes a gameplay idea can inform a story idea. For instance, I always wanted to do a resource-gathering mission, and I found the perfect fit in the story. Combining story and gameplay is very hard. Sometimes a good story can lead to boring gameplay, and sometimes good gameplay can lead to a boring story.
Very interesting, that Leviathan vs fleets boss fight sounds really cool, you rarely see bosses that need entire armies to be killed. Looking forward to that! :D
The resource collection scenario reminds me of the WoL mission a bit, the one where you collect minerals with rising lava, but I'm curious to see how Swarm Hosts will be used in that mission (defending enemy bases, sending locusts after your base, intervening with your mining...). Perhaps we'd get to fight their two stains from the HotS campaign there as well?
Well, everything is still being planned, so the details are a bit iffy, but the point of using swarm hosts is that, so long as they're alive, they'll keep spawning locusts, so you'd have to deal with them eventually. It's a war of attrition, really (a concept I find intriguing). I don't know what kind I'll use, but the idea of using both strains is cool, although I don't think the AI would use the Creeper properly.
I will probably be sending a first draft of Mission 01: Yojimbo to the testers either today or tomorrow. Hopefully I can get something public before I leave on Monday.
Be sure to check out the extension mod: Hots Custom Map support on NA and EU, Despite the name it greatly expands the roster of options for the default 3 races and is updated all the way to NCO.

Haha. If you look through the mission names for this campaign first, it might get easier to connect the dots. :)
That's three then. I'll send you mission 1 when it's finished.
Tester waiting for orders sir ! Aaaargh too late :(
I actually just found a way to fit this into the campaign.
Defilerrulez, I know you suggested something similar in your PM. Gonna try and and implement some of your ideas as well.
I said "aaargh" because i was too late for testing :P

Nuclear annihilation? That sounds fun.

Why name it so similar to a nipple?
Nipple eclipse!

Yeah, it'll be awesome.
Attached a picture with the terrain so far.
Valley of Blood? Nuclear Annihilation? Those sure sound like some carnage-filled intense levels :P
The Valley of Blood mission is sort of like the lava mission in WOL, in the sense that you gather minerals in a harsh environment.
A trilogy!
Can't wait for this one.
I haven't touched SC2 / mapmaking for a while due to GPU issues and because Diablo III expansion, but I'll probably play some SC2 again.

You mean the champions thing?
