They have to interview people for advertised positions. Just because they do, does not in any way mean you stand a chance at getting the position. It can literally be your interview is nothing more than a box ticking exercise so they can hire someone else, especially if few people apply for a position.
That is not true at all, and I hope no one listens to what you just said.
The 2 years industrial experience and 1 shipped title would exclude a large number of those talents.
I'm currently going through the job interview process with them and I have no prior experience nor any shipped titles...hell I haven't even released a custom game. If your work is clearly something they believe is good, then they'll give you a shot. There's nothing wrong with applying and failing to even get a call. It shows you where you are at and that you need to get better or that maybe you just applied at a time that your talent wasn't needed for what they wanted. If you truly believe that you could fill the position... then apply. The worst that can happen is that they'll turn you down.
I have applied 3 separate times and failed on the last 2 times to even get a response. This time after taking steps to get better I had applied as a Senior Level Designer at the bequest of their Lead Environmental Artist. Two days later there was an associate position open and I got an email for an interview. You never know what will happen, put yourself out there and see what happens. Even if I fail this round again, I'll be that much closer to knowing where I need to be.
Edit: Also, NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK...knowing people in the right places can make worlds of a difference.
First screenshot is a doodad i made from the CharLavaPlane.m3 model. It's like a single plane of water. I just rotate it to be angled with a surface and then raise the ground around the edges to hide them.
Second is a different angle of the map. I through raynor right in front of the camera but the ground is actually not even close to him. The perspective makes it look like he is though. I also threw a orange omni light on him. The skybox is actually really close as well.
The lava is a doodad made from the lava plane model. I just angle it down the hill and raise the ground around it and put rocks to cover up where they join.
Is this where I ask, why are you wasting your time in SC Mapsters and not kicking Blizzard employees out of there offices to redesign WoW inside of SC2's engine as a new RTS title?
Psstt... screw it, Im asking....WHY ARNT YOU KICKING BLIZZARDS DOOR IN TO DESIGN THIS! xD
Haha, thanks. I'm glad you like it. However, I still have a long way to go before I could be their equals when it comes to level design. I'm just doing what I can to get better.

Sorry for another late bump, but I had an idea for this one and just couldn't pass it up.

This is super late, but I was screwing around and remembered this terrain exercise.

WoW model viewer was crashing for the past week. Finally got fixed so I was able to add in some Vrykul models.
