@Aphex_: Go I read H. G. Wells' Dr Moreau Island (not sure if this is the orginial title) and I recommend it. I'm a huge fan of "real" old-styled sci-fi, full of hidden social and political criticism, not the modern vain sci-fi.
I can recommend the Bourne books by Robert Ludlum. You know, from that trilogy movie; the Bourne Identity/Supremacy/Ultimatum. Whether you liked the movies or not (I personally loved them, but can see how others wouldn't), the books are a really good read. They're fairly long, pleasantly written and full of suspense.
On another note, some classics can be interesting just to 'have read them' if you've got the time to spare. I'm thinking along the lines of the Canterbury tales, Plato's "The Republic" or MacBeth. Not all of these are as awesome to read as the others, but if you're willing to put your teeth into them they can definitely make it worth your while.
Also, I heard about these books called the 'Twilight' saga or something, which are apparently pretty good.
I'd recommend "The Name of the Wind" and "The Wise Man's Fear" by Patrick Rothfuss, great books imo. Also read Ender's Game a while ago, that one was pretty good as well.
Yeah I am all for old style scifi, I just started recently the Foundation. (I dont know why did I wait so long to start it)
This is my favorite 2 book: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stars_Are_Cold_Toys Specially the second one, that just fucks your mind:D
Yeah, it's very good. Lukyanenko is my second favorite russian sci-fi author, I've read all his books. He recently finished another one, but it's not about space unfortunately. The favorite one (two actually) are Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, they just kick asses.

I have to second this. Ender's Game is one of my all time favorites and I recommend it to anyone with even a little interest in sci-fi or gaming. "The Name of the Wind" and "The Wise Man's Fear" are some of the best books I have read in years and they have been added to my list of regular book recommendations. They're beautifully written, exciting, fun, and the characters are fantastic.
In the past few years I have also enjoyed "The Magicians" and "The Magician King" as very funny and addictive page turners. It's about a magic school like Hogwarts, except it's more like a college so there's lots of swearing, drugs, and sex.
And they're super mainstream now, but I really dug into The Hunger Games series.
I don't read very fast, so I tend to like books that are engaging page-turners. But since I read slow, I can afford to read only the best books and never run out.
My friend who reads a lot of that has given me a book for my birthday called "Die Elfen", by a writer named Bernhard Hennen. Apparently it's the first of a series and should be good. I'm not sure if it's been translated into English, though.

Fairly curious, has anyone read any good books lately?
Right now I'm in the middle of Firstborn, the first book in The Dark Templar Saga, and dang, this is a good book. Highly suggested.
On another note, any good suggestions for a Fantasy Thriller...something like Diablo: The Order, but a different series? :)

My last was The Twelve Chairs by Ilf and Petrov.
Nice book, I ate it in a week. Dostoevsky kicks asses.

Dam these topics make me always mad, so many books I want to read and so little time to do:D
btw the best torrent I ever download: http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/4459233/SF_Fantasy_Library
Temeraire, Percy Jackson, Bartimaeus, Game of Thrones, Ender's game.
I have to read The Name of the Wind then if it's so good. I have it, I just haven't had time to read it yet.
Okay, thanks for the suggestions, what about Dark Fantasy?
