I like scenarios that are impossible but not unbeatable. There are key points during the scenario which if the player can succeed in building up from, will allow him to win the scenario. Sort of a puzzle thing, or a run through the game 10 times to get it right.
One aspect of difficulty could simply be variations in the attack direction and composition of the AI. Say something like this:
Easy - Attacks come from north. No expansion. Player is free to take expansions adding 200% of his available resources to complete the mission. Brutal - Attacks come from all direction, including air drops, or air attack. AI uses spells. Expands to threaten the player not having enough resources to both fend off attacks and do a siege/counter-attack.
The player is therefore required to reduce casualties, use spells/abilities of his own, etc. Spells, units, specific builds to counter enemy compositions at 90% efficiency would get the player to a 4:3 ratio at winning.
Ye it would be great if they boosted the campaign a bit. Especially make it less A move all the way. Kerrigan was just way to strong.
I actually think it aint that bad. I mean starcraft girls do not have oversized boobs. Yes they look pretty, might be a tat to thin for soldiers and might still have to much breast for a hard working lady, but have you ever seen a movie with ugly girls? unless it supports the plot ofc.
I wonder if they will keep the story open for SCIII or if they are just gonna close the starcraft lore and start anew. Hint; project Titan.
StarCraft is the hardest and fragile to be mantained, i mean diablo and Warcraft have way more fans and people that buy it. Keep in mind also the RTS crysis and the situation is scary... SC3 ? Maybe on 2025 or later...
I believe they will leave a door open, to turn the SC lore into a universe with countless stories to tell and not just the fight between three races. SC3 could happen many years later with an older Raynor, some splinter groups fighting amongst each other or new races. Who said the Xel'Naga are the alpha (and the omega?). There could be more races (made by the XN). They talk about cycles. What if other races survived previous cycles?
I hope it becomes something like WC3 where its not only about orcs vs human (horde vs alliance) anymore. Blizzard development cycles are so long that I can see their RTS team alternating between WC and SC for many decades. I really hope they start with WC4 as soon as LotV is done.
Hello all,
I'm happy to join your community,
as OutsiderXE mentioned an WC4 game after LotV would be awesome.
But I think if Blizzard does LotV like promised, there won't be many Protoss left for SC3.
@OutsiderXE: Go Just no, I don't want SC2 to become another Star Wars where every planet has a dozen intelligent species. They might add one or two, specially since the Protoss already had contact with such species, but they were low-tech and wouldnt keep up with the original 3 in warfare. If added these should be cameos or very specific to certain missions, definitely not in multiplayer or have their own campaign.

In a way they have already begun with it. There Protoss, Zerg and Terran. But there are also Primal Zerg, Xel'Naga and Hybrids. They are not completely new but each of them could have their own agenda in the future. I also think 1-2 new races in SC3 would be enough.

Just something spun my mind when reading your reply, cycles... Have any of you guys played Mass Effect?
SPOILER ALERT to all those who still want to play Mass Effect 3
ME3 also had a storyline with an overpoweredgodlike race (the reapers) that go through cycles wiping out all intelligent species capable of warfare etc. I sure hope LOTV wont end up with something like that.
It liked Mass Effect exactly for that. I can't picture Mass Effect 4 without Reapers.
What I remember from the Dark Templar books: The Xel'Naga created the Zerg and the Protoss so they could make them one race and then take over them. It was hinted at that this would not be a hostile takeover but rather an evolutionary process that would be natural (harmless) to the Protoss and Zerg.

Are there also hints to why it isn't going naturally (harmless)? Cause how the story develops at the moment, it looks pretty hostile :p.
@Crazio: Go Basically the Zerg weren't supposed to attack the Protoss, that was the main change Amon did to the Overmind. Without this forced aggression both species could have met, lived together and eventually merge.
It'd probably help too if the Aeon of Strife never occurred, so that the Xel'naga could continue overseeing how the Protoss develop.
I doubt we'll be seeing any new playable factions in SC3, though, at least not in multiplayer. Then again, SC3 will probably happen in 20-30 years, so, who knows?

@Crazio: Go A civil war between Protoss tribes that lead to the departure of the Xel'naga (or was it their departure that lead to the war? don't really remember)

Ok kerrigan is oversexualised... But watch girls of other games not of blizzard, ninmphomans and Huge b*0bs everywhere! Is a cliché of videogames...
the video game industry knows exactly what i want and they deliver!

@Zz3r4tul: Go
The RTS genre is very much in a recession at the moment. I don't think we'll see WC4 for a long, long time.
Plus, the direction gaming has taken is very much toward easier games, less buttons, fewer things to manage.

SC3 will arrive on 2025 or 2030, i dreamed, Zeratul itself told me it!
Whats the aeon of strife?
@Crazio: Go A civil war between Protoss tribes that lead to the departure of the Xel'naga (or was it their departure that lead to the war? don't really remember)
I wanted to summarize but this text is short enough and contains every information.

Cool thanks. This article answers a lot of my questions :)
