I hope its very similar to WoW TCG (Which btw is somewhat similar to Magic). They didn't describe how it worked in the vid, but it seemed somewhat similar. But faction division (Horde/Alliance) and hero cards seem to be missing :( (Hero cards are pretty much the same as when they picked a class in the vid, except that each hero would have a talent specializaton and a special one-use ability in WoW TCG, and sometimes +/- 1 health relative to others in his class. It might not sound like much, but a lot of decks really required a specific hero.)
For all those interested, Hearthstone is not part of Warcraft in the beta opt in settings! It has its own new option in the beta opt in settings, which is unchecked by default, so you have to go to your account and check the box if you want to have a chance at beta access!
Looks very similar to WoW TCG. There didn't seem to be any time allowing you to react to the enemy card plays (in WoW TCG, as in most TCGs, there are cards that can just "interrupt" card playing (Forcing the card to be destroyed/Discarded before it takes effect), which kinda sucks as it opened up a lot of neat strategies. But maybe its actually in there and just not shown in the video - Mages are usually the ones with half a million interrupts. Another thing reactive card playing allows is getting low on health, lettng your opponent get cocky and then just healing before his attack hits :p I really hope such stuff will be possible.
But yeah, I saw quite a few mechanics from WoW TCG, and it definitely looks cool. Its shame resources were replaced by mana crystals - in the WoW TCG you had to play cards to get the equivalent of mana crystals. There were cards specially made for that purpose (Quests, which you could complete by meeting certain conditons and paying a cost for a reward (usually card draws) and Locations which had various effects, but usually relied on collecting certain points through various ways and activating its ability), but if you didn't happen to have one of those in your hand, you could place any card face down to act like a resource. It added another decent bit of strategy.
I would give it a try, but the video gameplay looked boring for me. Im not much of a card game fan, so, I dont know. Maybe not really my thing. Also how much skill is really involved in a game like this?. Just seems random with cards.

Well if you want the opinion of a previous Yu-Gi-Oh card collector, here's my opinion:
1. Customizing your deck is at least a third of the fun. Getting that last card to complete a set, or fully cover a fusion monster is extremely satisfying. Collecting/customizing/theorizing.
2. Playing with friends was also what I really enjoyed at TCGs/boardgames. The game's not extremely difficult, and is most of the time dependent on which cards you draw, but it's just plain fun. TCGs definitely aren't skill based in terms of Starcraft or even WoW, because essentially you're pitting different decks min/maxed for the player to draw the right cards in order to defeat the opponent. Comparing/Discovering/Playing. Also it "is p2w". There's no doubt Blizzard is going to milk this for money. Why else would they make the game? The trick is to balance the rarity and price/effort parity so that players don't feel like they can simply spend a couple of bucks to get the best cards. Cards should have levels of rarity, and ofc, Blizzard will add more cards as the game goes on. Trading with friends should be an option, but I don't know if Blizzard will implement that do to their track record of player micro control.
3. The art. Sometimes it's just nice to look at something shiny.
It may seem like a lot of luck, but think about card counting in other card games like poker. Statistics matter. I dont know the exact rules for hearthstone, but WoW TCG like most required a 60 card deck and you could only have up to 4 of the same card, which means you were almost guaranteed one of the card in the first 8 turns, if you don't draw any extra cards (And if you don't draw any extra cards, chances are you set up your deck really badly). You get the option to shuffle your hand back into the deck once, so there's a really high chance you can get that one card on your first turn.
You'll never really depend on that one card - Unless its one that's really expensive in which case its ok that it comes late since you can't use it early. You'll always have alternatives, something you can use. Yea, if you're at one health and hoping for a heal, that'll depend on luck, but if you got there in the first place you already were doing something wrong/badly (Either in the actual match or in deck building), so it's kind of the equivalent of hoping your opponent won't notice that drop/nydus worm until it's too late.
There's definitely a bit more luck involved than in sc2 or so, but a good amount of skill will be there as well, part of it coming in in deck building - You want to eliminate as many of the luck factors as possible there. The better you do your job the less you rely on sheer luck.
As for pay2win - From what I saw you can pay $1 for a pack of cards (5 I think?) But that pack can be bought with an ingame currency as well. Seeing as you can't pick what cards you get, it doesn't really seem like "pay 2 win". You'll have more cards to pick from and will have an easier time to get them all, but you can do the same by just playing the game.
I do hope card trading will be in there (Or, to make it simpler, card selling/buying for whatever the ingame currency is (And no real money auction house. This isn't a PvE game, and RMAH would practically turn it into pay2win))

about the card trading.. they say its a collectible card game.. not a trading card game so ye no card trading for sure.. i've played lot of games like this and they doint have card trading cause what keeps you playing is trying to have all the cards ad trying to get this one card.. and you need to keep playing to get more packs.. if you add card trading it would make it super ez
I'm ignoring all previous replies. To me it looks like a rip off of MtG (Magic the Gathering). Only online, and free (like a MtG fan based online card game system).
It was inspired by Magic the Gathering but is much easier to understand.
Before the game starts the players choose cards which will build a "store". Then you buy cards from the store to compose your deck. You have to optimize for protection (from attack cards), offence (buy attack-cards) and economy. To win, you buy victory cards from the store, but they dilute your deck so you get crappier hands to play.
I never liked board/table games, so this means no interest to me at all. However, if you are with a mobile and can only play that on your mobile, it may be a great game. Though not something I would replace a PC game with :>

Now that I think about it again... isn't card counting a Blackjack thing? The only skill that matters in poker is bluffing/playing your opponents, the cards really are completely random I think.

I like it. Haven't gotten into a card game in years.
Oh well, time to go back to a corner and wait for project Blackstone to finish :(

This will easily replace magic for me. No more spending $100's on cards and carrying around boxes upon boxes of decks.

Is it just me, or does Chris Metzen look way older. I almost didn't even recognize him. His voice is a bit lower and his hair a lot grayer.
Here's a full game of the TCG:

Seems pretty fun to me tbh.

Here's a better version:
!
I'll most probably try it out just because it's free. But not with the intention of continual play.

Even though its not my type of game and i will most likely not play it, I still think its a pretty cool idea and it looks quite good for a card game.
I like that Blizzard finally tries something new and actually wants to release it this year already.
Uhh Apirl fool joke ?? I guess.
