For this week's WTE assignment a slight repeat of something we've seen in the past: Fulla has been working on his map 'Card Shuffle' again and is looking for some good looking Arena's for his players to play around in. So if you're up for making an arena, feel free to join in! You're relatively free in what you want to make, only the following restrictions apply:
The arena must be roughly 14x8 squares in size (turn on the terrain grid)
There has to be some room on each side of the arena for placement of the heroes (unit spawners)
There has to be a direct path from one side to the other; no obstructions in the middle of the arena
The edges of the arena should be unwalkable (pathing-painted red)
Alternatively, take a look at the screenshot I've attached that shows a sample arena. Aside from these three restrictions, everything goes; the tileset, doodads used and background are all up to you guys.
Good luck, have fun, and don't forget to look up Card Shuffle on Battle.net!
Interesting.... Card Shuffle is a good game that is under rated in my opinion. So few players play that game even though its a good one. But I would say that the lst version I believe had some bugs making the gameplay nearly unplayable if you didn't know how to play. However, if the mapmaker keeps working on it, I'm sure it could get to at least Arcade Workshop that blizzard has started to do, then it would become probably more popular.
Best whishes to this epic game. I will post an arena once I get back home as I'm not home at the moment.
Hmmm... I'm not exactly sure of the precision of my arena, so I let the grid in place. I think that I'll name this one 'Somewhere in the desert' (don't care of the omnilight guide).
I saw that and my first reaction was, woah what's that cool looking thing? :)
My main critique would be to make if functional now (aka the next step in any terrain for a game), I opened it up in the editor and it currently drops units below the doodads. Oh and welcome back! <3
I think you used terrain object... but these are quite buggy and hard to get working correctly as they change the terrain itself. So if it's a hole the units will walk in the hole... Anyway, I like how it looks with that lightning...but what does it looks like in low graphics. Alot of players play in low graphics so it would have basic lightning. I wonder also if it too distractive all the things around... the bubble over everything... If you look at Joecab's terrain, it's very clean and easy to see the battle field... here however it's more complicated.
Found a couple hours in my schedule and got another one done. I was going to use some more frozen zerg models, but they seemed to drop frame rate, so the zergyness is minimal.
Ah yea, you're right guys, I did not have time for the functionnal part and I still continue to practice my terrain skills (not bad for a 90 minutes terrain, ya ;-) ?)
And you're double time right Joecab, we should really need to create more than pictures in WTE.
Da vinci said : 'simplicity is the ultimate sophistication'. Your terrain is exactly reflecting this. Maybe one little thing : I think that the terrain is too symetric, so adding stuff like lightings or little doodads will help to break the pattern (that's what make Blizzard's melee maps so boring).
Weekly Terraining Exercise #144

Working on projects:
I am really excited about this :)
I've attached the map itself, if anyone wants to open it up and have a look they are welcome. You can playtest it to and see how it looks in game.
Here is another one for ya, just finished making a protoss one :D
In anyone plans on posting a map, or an image, even an incomplete concept is great and will most likely help fulla out.

That is quite epic oO Nicely done!

Awesome as always joecab!!
Think I may just enter myself :)
I'm back everybody!!!

Stones need to be tinted to some more icy colors. Or replace texture with some snow texture.
