Hello hello folks! Last week we had a couple of awesome canyons, and this week is the 75th Weekly Terraining Exercise! This means we're 3/4th on our way to number 100! I'll try and plan something special for you guys then, but for this week, something to tie into this magic number: such as we working our way to 'completion', this week's theme will be "Under Construction" as well. Any kind of building (or 'Landscape', if you've got inspiration) that is in some way 'under construction' or 'still being built' is what I'm after this week.
Mystic protoss temple under construction. Walls have been raised, and turrets and a gate has been built in order to keep the Probes safe from enemy forces.
This is really nice! I love how it looks! I think if you had more structure pieces under (or less fog) and the side of the map correctly made (in the last picture we can see the map side caus of the missing border). I think the background is not the best as well or maybe the view angle. You could have try also to put some reactors under, so a kind of floating space / dirt plateform. Another idea could have be; faking this to be over the clouds but still on a planet. So you could put some light in the very far bottom that pass through the fog.
I think you've got a bit of a scaling problem. Some objects in your space station insinuate that the whole thing is ridiculously huge (like the flats that are tiny by comparison), but this isn't obvious enough. Especially with the normal sized cliff walls, it's really hard to see the thing in the size you actually meant it, a feeling that can only be conjured by focusing intently on objects such as those flats. My recommendation would be to remove some of the wall and add a number of scaled-down battlecruisers/medivacs. Think Mass Effect space travel style - make it look like there's a bazillion little ant-style ships buzzing in and out of this huge space station. That should give it a sense of scaling.
This is interesting. I feel like if it was Pokemon Gale of Darkness near the end haha. I've not found a better image to show what a mean than this: http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/6287/2uc7.jpg
Awesome! That fits in with last week's theme as well =P
I really like the concept, though I do think you could've done a bit more with it. Maybe if you make the start of the bridge more finished than the rest of it, to insinuate a little bit more that this thing is actually still being built, and allowing us to get a glimpse of what it would look like when finished. Also, some liveliness would be welcome - if this thing is still being build, where are the builders? Or the material to build it with?
And thanks for the heads up, will update the WTE into current events.
On another note, I've been thinking of starting somewhat of a side-project of the WTE, in order to make all of this a little bit more known. Would you guys mind if I asked you for some of these terrains and turned them into very small playable maps? Really simple stuff like making them walkable and turning them into tiny RPG's where you take raynor and some marines through the terrain. That would really show off what you guys are capable off. Let me know your thoughts.

Weekly Terraining Exercise #75

Have fun, and good luck!

I took a page out of the Halo book for this one. Unfinished artificial planet.
My main focus was on the large features, didn't devote much time to small detailing.
Would look more complete with a larger map size but, alas, I don't have that much time to spare for it these days.
Look at the caption of the above image (hover your cursor over it), :P

Hang on a second, this looks familiar...
Please, it would be nice if you'd not simply recycle old images, we like new ones :D
Can't really make new ones without access to a computer with sc2 editor

Anyway, very well made =)

Fair point.

That's pretty impressive, I like the elevation and the struts underneath look damn awesome.
@Telthalion: Go
Pretty impressive. Did you do anything with those cliffs? I don't recall space platform cliffs being so "short".
@SheogorathSC: Go
I don't think he did some sort of magic trick. It is probably just the basic cliff ;)

Nope, those are just standard Braxis Alpha cliffs. No modifications.
I'm really not getting the 'under construction' vibe with this, but I didn't want it to go to waste.
It's unfinished, but I liked the scale of it :)
(notice the 2 small medivacs)

Looks nice, though the background spoils it.

Do you mean the skybox or the walls around it?
The asteroid was the main focal point, I just couldn't zoom in enough to get it all (I cut some stuff off the top) and block out the wall :P

Second attempt at a WTE, sorry if I'm late, works kicking my behind. Elapsed time = 41 minutes.
Titled: The Bridge Unscathed
BTW the WTE didnt show up as an active forum thread or current event
