I would like to give a big thanks to the couple who participated, I really enjoyed seeing these few oldschool Melee maps make a comeback. Again, I will definitely be playing on some of these maps for training with some friends as I do play a lot of Melee. For anyone interested, check out their maps below: (In order from Left to Right, Abion47's Secret Valley, Abion47's Excavation Site, and OutsiderXE's Twisted Meadow).
We'll be coming out with a new contest, this one more scenic-related in the near future.

Pocket Monsters
I'm sure everyone visiting this website has played Pokemon at one point in time in their lives... Those of us around when it first came out on the original Gameboy will remember Pokemon Red and Blue (I suppose Yellow counts too). jaminv decided it was time to take nostalgia to a whole other level when he began his Pokemon-style port to SC2. Now, he isn't recreating the Pokemon games entirely, he's coming up with a brand new set of "monsters" and attacks. However from the looks of it, the map is exactly how I remember it back when Ash left him mom to go "Catch 'em all." Though, he says he is going to come up with his own map shortly afterward. Not only is this going to be a PvE game, but he has also included the PvP arena (in the PokeCenter for those who can remember the specifics, ;)). Those looking for a walk down memory lane and look into the future of PokeCraft (he's still looking for names if anyone wants to throw in their two cents... there was mine) should definitely take a look at this map.

In the past, we've seen several "World of Starcraft" projects by various different users (SCMapper's came first and then came Slaydon's).... However, they have all abandoned their projects as they have likely just burnt out due to the fact that they have tried to tackle it alone. Not this time! Creation is going to work with a team of users to create an SC2 in-game MMO (he's recruiting right now). Recently they've been perfecting the character selection screen, as seen in the YouTube clip below... Hopefully these guys can do what it takes to complete a working project of this type of game and succeed where previous users have failed. *crosses fingers*

Go submit your War3 Melee Remakes for our current contest!
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up, Blizzard confirmed that they've been doing more fixes and testing on an internal PTR. The 1.2 patch is expected to come next week if all goes well.
Quote:1/5/11- After additional testing and feedback from the community on the PTR, we’ve identified and fixed several issues and are now targeting next week for patch 1.2. We will update this thread should there be any further delays.
If anyone needs to see the official 1.2 patch notes, you can re-read them here. Again, these notes do not include any changes Blizzard has made since the PTR closed down on 12/22/10.

The Death Baneling
The Death Baneling (or TDB) is a map created with three objectives in mind: Micro, fun, fast. The gameplay is based (but improved greatly) on the Warcraft III map created by Blizzard: The Death Sheep. Some of those SC1 users may also see it as something close to a bound-type map. Because of the maps obstacles, it is super easy to get addicted and there is plenty of room for replayability... It's like those internet flash games... They're simple but you can't stop playing them... Version 2.0 of the map (the second video) even has an in-game achievement system with cool custom UI.

Underworld
Bounty has been working on a PvP/Domination type map for quite some time now. The objective of the map is not only to kill your opponents, but take over their base. There are six unique heroes, each with several abilities to use within the game. This map is very similar to the Alterac Valley battleground in WoW (or Domination in Black Ops for those CoD players :)). I got a chance to beta test is a little bit and it's a lot of fun, anyone interested in PvP will most definitely want to get their hands on this.

This contest is about melee gameplay! I'm sure you all remember the SC1 Legacy Remake Contest we held a few weeks ago... Given the amount of submissions and general interest, I thought it'd only be fair to have a Melee remake for all those War3 players out there as well. Again, Blizzard has said they would consider using our maps in the official Ladder, so why not take a shot at making a map worthy of pro gamers like Boxer and Huk?
What to do?
- Recreate a War3 Melee Map as you see fit. The goal is to create a balanced SC2 melee map, but must be a replicate of the original map. So that means the map itself must be correct in terms of cliff and player placement, etc.
- You can add in things like the Xel'Naga Watch Tower, etc from SC2, or change the amount of resources so things are balanced in terms of SC2.
To view resources to be used in the contest, the deadlines, and the rewards, check the thread (where you can also place all submissions).

Wondering what the new chat channels are like? Rodrigo decided to make a parody melee type map that shows us. It's just a melee map that mimics the behavior of the new chatrooms spam filters. In 20 seconds, you can only move units 3 times, build 3 constructions, train 3 units, and use 3 abilities. I think we can all agree those need to be fine tuned (since it is currently in testing and we understand that), but this'll give you a good laugh or two.

Week 3's Data Exercise is a all about Aura's. This time around, it's bit easier to come up with a result but you can make it as advanced as you would like to go! You are going to make an Aura. Now an aura, for those that don't know is an Area of Effect around a certain unit that either benefits Allies or Disbenefit (can't think of a better word) an enemy. So head over to the thread and get started!
Last weeks WDE was very simple, create a weapon for the Zerg Overseer! Check out some of entries that users came up with...
Head to the thread to see the rest of the entries..
