Tis is entirely subjective, but I always envisioned the cerebrates body texture akin to a raw shrimp or a maggot mayhaps, with a body mass similar to the probably inspiration, the brain bug from Starship Troopers
I'll make another cerebrate, and a brain bug later. For now, I'm aiming for an Sc2 version of something like a cerebrate.
Also, I don't think the SC2 engine can render gels, or that it doesn't have Sub-surface capabilities.
You can do, something like that of building birth, where it looks transparent, have two objects layered on each other, and have them assigned with animated textures, etc.. but man...

Btw, that Cerebrate is really cool, I cannot wait to see it finished I sugget to add TC
I've been looking at Starship trooper lore on the Bugs. Their transport concept is quite interesting. Wouldn't it be nice to have a Bug race in sc2?
Aren't the Zerg pretty much that? :P
The Cerebrate looks pretty impressively well done, and up to SC2 standards, too. :)
I'm not sure about that three-pronged mouth it has, though, I recognize that piece from a Zerg doodad.
Also, would be cool if the Cerebrate model had a "rebirth" model for when you kill it with something other than Dark Templars and it regenerates.
Would also be cool if it had a deep tunnel ability with animation, where it could resurface at another place (suggestion for your campaign).
Technically you are right XD but this avatar is relistic Giratina made by a my friend for my birthday 3 years ago. I liked it because I love Giratina and he drawned it like a giant centipede/beetle, and I loved because is really creepy.
But one thing is see a draw (even if realistic is ever a draw) another thing is see a photo of REAL worms.
I have a great fears of worms :S is not my fault
THat's the plan. The cradle/nest has a hole, looks like an entrance, where it will pop, like in the tremor movie. You can build the nest somewhere else, like a nydus, and the cerebrate can be moved there via the nest/canal.
The unpowered animation set is also planned. Guts will spew from it's sides, and the cerebrate would deflate and slop down. Then it will inflate again back to form.

I suggest you to make him more brain-like/transparent skin and add the legs and the green liquid
