Can't post on US. If someone can ask in my name: are there any plans to give us access to doodads that can be turned around their axis (i.e. make a table that lies on its side), like we had in the WarCraft 3 editor? I realize this can be done with data editing, but that requires you to take some pretty drastic steps whereas in War3 you could instantly turn any doodad at your command around.
Not sure if it's organized like that QA they did a few years ago or that the devs will just freely reply to topics in the custom map forums.
From the looks of it, they're going to be freely roaming and replying to topics at will! Deletarius already replied to two random threads - his own account and portrait, etc.
If they stick around this could really be great - especially if they post frequently, and actually reply to questions besides simple, easy ones.
I posted a couple of your guys questions there, but I'm not sure how much they'll reply to things that are essentially "feature requests" rather then questions about how to do something within the editor.
As I am EU it would be nice if someone could ask if they have any plans on changing the maximum sight range that is currently set to 13 I believe.
Also, are they going to give information like that or are they just helping with technical problems and specific questions on how to solve particular problems?
if you really can't play custom maps unless it's through the editor or through the arcade (I can't get them to run through the SC2 exe anymore)
You can still run maps offline through the exe, just now you have to use Support/SC2Switcher.exe instead of StarCraft2.exe (it's just the launcher now, not the main executable)
Here's the full run command along with the parameters (not sure if they're all needed and what some of them do)
Sweet! Rotidecs and Artestru have now checked in, and they WILL be giving out information about features they might add and the like! See his post for more info: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/6231594160#18
It appears this is not a one time thing, nor limited to that thread - they will simply stick around and post whenever they want, in reply to whatever they want.
Because I won't be able to ask questions because I won't exploit my publisher and use his acc to ask questions, I can give you some things you could start to think about. I have no real questions, but I have some suggestions for them they might want to think about:
- right & left mouse click detection on dialog buttons
(e.g. to spawn a context menu / perform alternative action)
- info about mouse position on dialog when clicked
(it's possible to create an "anti lag" system with that even on dialogs that have a changing layouts... it might be to complicated for you to understand this in my few words here. I would just like to know on which point on a dialog someone clicked when he clicked a dialog item. Basically it should allow you to get the the position of a second click on a dialog item to transfer the info into a hypothetical click on a dialog button that didn't exist at the second click because of the input delay in battle.net.
Example:
- situation:
Click a dialog button twice, maybe on different spots.
- logic:
dialog item click event -> check clicked UI point with the range of the dialog item & visibility -> if the button shouldn't have been clicked in the dialog state -> search for another button at that position within the dialog -> if one has been found on that spot -> perform actions of the found button).
- mouseUI offset to dialog offset transformation
(=> fix the mouse move event UI offset, it's useless atm and capped. I demand to know the offset in the scale of dialog offsets to be able to actually use the offset).
- player's resolution in dialog offset size
(This would allow us to get the mouse position on a dialog with mouse move UI. Also we can make the perfect UI for the player by rearranging the UI to optimize screen usage.)
- change mouse pointer on a player basis
Maybe that's possible right now. I have no idea.
- special dialog that is attached on the mouse pointer
(That would allow us to draw info next to the mouse pointer without battle.net lags. You could do custom mouse pointers, too. Or a cool ammo display for a TPS, etc. It's offset should be the offset from the mouse pointer.)
The first thing I want fixed is the lag, especially for WASD movement.
As much as I would love this myself, I highly doubt it will ever happen. Its just the server respond time. Basically there is nothing to be "fixed" at all.
The only thing Blizzard could do is try to upgrade their servers to reduce battle.net delay in general. But again, this wont happen just for a few custom games.
Well... with micro transactions coming up this could open path to some great games using WASD not viable at the moment and with fraction of them being sold, this could be a revenue source for them. Not to mention that if custom games scene grows, overall game sale might peak up

Everything concerning SC2 can be "fixed" or a better word to say "changed".
It is just a matter of what the pros and cons are and how much they have to invest to get it. In this case it would be reworking the netcode which has a lot of potential cons, because changes to fundamental code like this has an effect of a lot of stuff. So they probably have to go through a lot of potential stability problems and tests and stuff like that, which means they have to spend a lot of time and ressources on that.
I doubt they will do it for HotS, because if they would they would have already hinted to something like that. They will first of all get into all the new features that are most awaited by the "core" SC2 community. That means more detailed ladder statistics for each player, jumping into replays and playing them, watching replays with friends (these 2 features are probably linked), a feature that enables ingame clan support, a weekly tournament system, ingame customization (for backgrounds, teamcolors etc.). All of that is on their list of doing things and they already said that they work on it for HotS. So there is a possibility that they rework the netcode, but I think it is pretty unlikely in the near future. SC2 is a standalone RTS and not a multi-gaming platform that is centered around the custom mapping community.
That said I'm always hoping that they give the option of making more actions client based. There are few things that I would be more psyched about. But I just don't see it happening soon :)
edit:
Also, it would be REALLY nice if someone could ask them whether or not there is a way to make maps available through singleplayer in the arcade and how exactly that is possible. Singleplayer meaning there is no built in delay. If thats not possible through the arcade (which is most likely), how do I set a map up so it at least shows in the list where I can select singleplayer maps? I never got that to work.

Not sure if it's organized like that Q&A they did a few years ago or that the devs will just freely reply to topics in the custom map forums.
Anyway, go ask question. Be polite and don't ask stupid things.
Thanks for reporting this thread ;)
please support my input delay question guys :D
Support how? Surely asking is enough. Anything more just becomes obnoxious and reduces the chance that the devs will actually stick with this.
Somebody ask them:
a) if you really can't play custom maps unless it's through the editor or through the arcade (I can't get them to run through the SC2 exe anymore)
b) ..about support for custom campaigns

That's great, we don't get many developers directly answering questions.
Time to get an US SC2 copy I guess
EVERYONE ASK ABOUt thE HEROES TABS!!!!

Thing is. Until those guys answer to a rare mapping problems with a good solutions this forum is good enough for that.

Read what I wrote here http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/6231594160?page=1#9
They already talked about the possibility of fixing the lag reworking the netcode but that it requires a lot of efforts :|
Oh thank god, you can still have some decent campaign launchers with this..
