Why would they? The current editor is being improved, and in no way will Blizzard throw away their toolset and engine. Those who have asked for it have yet to provide a decent technical and economic reason to throw the existing stuff away, instead of just improving it.
Has there ever been any blizzard game with a previously used engine (except add-ons)? As far as I can see their releases take so long that they are better off building a new engine from scratch and only use an existing engine for tests and prototypes. I think a lot of their tech and gameplay just looks and controls the same because they rely so much on established concepts and polish towards them.
I don't think we will see a WC4 announcement before 2020. Partly because I think they still have some ideas in store for SC2 and partly because they don't know yet what direction WC4 is going to take. My wish for its editor would be for it to have a toolset that can produce content independent of the platform e.g. mobile phones or consoles.
Be sure to check out the extension mod: Hots Custom Map support on NA and EU, Despite the name it greatly expands the roster of options for the default 3 races and is updated all the way to NCO.
We don't need Warcraft 4. They will make Warcraft 3 HD. It's the best case, WC3 still a popular game and HD remake with improved models and multiplayer will be outstanding decision from Blizzard.
True. But I would still argue that Heroes is no where on a scale as I would expect from WC4, and it was also released relatively quickly. If WC4 was to come in the next 2-3 years I would think it would use the same engine. HotS looks really nice and I would like to see a WC4 with similar graphics.
Entirely depends. You are correct that they write their engines from scratch, but I more chalk that up to the lack of engines commercially available at the time (Unreal/Unity and co are relatively recent, and Hearthstone is done in Unity).
Storm wasn't intended to reuse the engine, but ended up doing so.
One reason Blizzard does write their own engines is that they've retained the talent to do so. Most companies simply can't afford the expertise, and either reuse an engine for a looong time, or license/purchase a 3rd party one, and sometimes license the source so they can make modifications.
I don't know if WarCraft 4 would be a good idea, Chris Metzen brain completely melted after the release of WoW and for sure we will have a dumbass story (i have a LOT of doubts about the WoW Legion lore being good, i have little hopes only for the Maiev/Illidan Hype) ... Plus i don't wanna see Nostalgicfaggot Fanboys spamming everywhere "OMFG WC4 SUCK! WC3 BEST GAME EVER! F*CK YOU BLIZZARD!", i've already seen enough of these retarded fags on StarCraft 2 videos/discussions, even if on a gameplay side, the campaign of starcraft 1 and brood war looks like shit if compared to the WoL and the incredible LotV campaign (i won't mention sc2 hots, it was an accident)...
I don't even wanna see retarded DotA 2/LoL fanboys yelling that blizzard copied their shitty wc3 clones, i've seen enough of this crap on Heroes of the Storm videos/discussions
WC3 HD would be a good idea, OR a general upgrade of WC3 itself, mantaining the same client, so you don't have to buy it another time
If they will ever do a WarCraft 3 / WarCraft 4, it will be really funny to see the reaction of that cancer called WarCraft 3 community
WarCraft Armies of Azeroth HYPE, i tryed their models and they looks awesome
For the Engine and Editor i think it would be necessary to use a new one, Heroes of the Storm engine is good, but on the next five years it will be a six years old engine based on a 14 years old engine (sc2 engine was complete on 2008, two years were spent on optimization)
I would play through a new Warcraft strategy game, that is why I loved it so much.
Would be nice to see the story ( at least the good parts ) they have (had ) in WoW and be able to play throught it in the old strategy style that what made Warcraft so great!
Something like Warcraft Stories or Warcraft Adventures, so the would be able to bring out stories like they are doing now with that Nova storyline
Anyways, maybe after all the Overwatch hype, Warcraft Legion bullshit and HotS we could expect a fourth installment.
This is probably their last card they'll play after everything else is going down as it was just announced that Heartstone hit its 4th million player base.
1 Year ?
2 Years maybe ?
3 Years ?!
Never?
