I thought of a WTE which will make people create new tilesets with the existing textures(ice Niflheim textures too) that somehow make an integrated and solid terrain, and do some terraining with it. What do you think?
Shit, i just wrote for 10 minutes and it deleted :(
As Tekaichi said, you pick some textures from Mar Sara or Monlyth or any other texture set, and create a whole new textures set. Then you do the terrain to which you picked the textures.
I did that just for fun, and thought it will be nice for everyone to try and come up with some ideas for it.
EDIT
I've got another idea linked to texture mixes: Let's assign every texture a number (from 1 to 100) and make a lottery, so that every one gets random textures, like Mar Sara Dirt - Monlyth Sand - Red Stone Rock - Bel Shir Grass Light - Char Sponge - Niflheim Ice etc. and he'll have to somehow put the textures in one piece that makes sense in overall terrain.

Fantasy themed: make a fantasy like terrain. Simple as that. To get started, players can take a look the WoW export/import tutorial to get some neat-o props! This, however, is certainly not required, as SC2's models can go a long way toward fantasy stuff, granting that you get a little creative.
I like Zerg-themed. As for 'Fantasy themed'... It could work, but we kind of need a crystal clear 'how to import wow models' in there. In fact, what we need is a map that has all WoW models imported and nothing else. We had one of these back in Warcraft 3, it was called 'the ultimate terraining' map - it was basically a map where all doodads had their footprints removed, a lot of extra doodads were added, etc. You could load it up and begin terraining on an empty terrain and always have access to all additional assets.
I might make one, though I'm not sure if I'm data-profficient enough...
Depending on how many models you tried to put into it, that map could get HUGE.
Just the trees from WoW (models + textures) eats up roughly 270 mb, uncompressed/unedited. Admittedly that's just about every tree variant in the game, which would be overkill for mapping.
I can make one with a bunch of WoW props, if you would like. PM me if you want me too, you only need to take up about 5MG worth of models (this is excluding units) to make a fantasy map. I can send a blank one with a variety of props.A few inside stuff, some buildings, and props, you do not need WoW trees.
Shattered Earth - some kind of post-apocalyptic environment
The Dead Marsh (Lord of the Rings reference unintended, but fitting)
Haunted Forest - suggested to me by a friend when I asked "What should I make?" ... and I completely and utterly failed at it, making it prime "needs practice and inspiration" real estate.
Two-Tone - a slightly more artsy idea in which the focus is on lighting - using exactly two different colors to create contrast and focus. Or something along those lines.
You also do not really need WoW trees, really. As far as making a blank map with the assets its fairly easy, simply import, make the models, and then make the doodads. I also like both the Haunted Forest and Dead Marsh idea (seeing as one of my maps has areas for both those themes :D)
Next idea of mine, little weird :P : making a commercial inside Starcraft. It don't matter will it be a car commercial, Zerg Swarm commercial or yogurt one( but I wonder how you'll do it :) ) It could be a chance for camera point of view practice, or to learn how to make cutscenes. I know it is very different from previous WTEs but could be interesting.
Maybe, i just thought about the arrangement of the doodads and textures in camera perspective, which is more terrain-releated.
Always thought that camera movements are made more often by terrainers than triggersmans(triggerers?).
It's only an idea, you know :P
Cinematics, as my experience tells me, tends to be something done on the side by triggerers/coders since it's in 'their area'. I'll agree with you though, I wouldn't be surprised if there were cinematic experts out there who specialize in the function. Creating a good cinematic *is* rather different from puring triggering/coding.
Here is a base terrain with fantasy doodads, donated by Zarakk, Tethalon, and Sizlak. They range from Scholomance, to Kara, to Dwarven, to, uh, a bunch of other stuff! Alot of these are also useful for Sci Fi, as SC2 left us with only a handful of not lab interior doodads.
So, if sometime in the future you want to do a fantasy WTE, a base of doodads is here. Ignore the little town in the center, as I started working on a terrain before saving this file as a base. This could also make for an interesting JTE!
Anyways, included are about 92 doodads, clocking in at about 8MG of space (compressed). *Shrug* The Cortex Engine takes almost no space at all, so I have been able to get away with larger maps. I use this base for my maps, and often delete about a third, if not more, of the imports. This saves me time, as importing them all, making the models and the actors, is a real pain to do over and over again. Anyways, enjoy!
That said, thanks for providing! I would've kept the map empty, but the addition of all those doodads are a nice place to start with for terrainers making showcases.
This one sounds interesting if you can set up the lottery thing so that everyone gets really different texture sets. Just looking at what you did gave me ideas of an exotic or fantasy ORPG style terrain. Sadly I can never put these ideas I see in my head into a map terrain.

I don't quite understand your idea? Could you explain the concept?

Mix tilesets! Nice idea. (My Opinion)

We could do something Zerg - themed too, now that Blizz is showing off single player from HotS :)

I realize that. It wouldn't be meant for publishing anyway - there's a reason I'd still call it "the ultimate terraining map" =P

Isn't it more a Trigger WE? Just asking.

Hmm, placing down a candelier crashed my editor.

I got one! A before and after. Use the same cliffs and basic map design but make 2 different versions of it. For example...
