Wow! That's a huge feedback for a job that took me less than 30 minutes :P. Thanks for the input!
Actually, my idea was to use the trees as some kind of grass, but it didn't work out so I gave up with it. Anyway, I thought that it still looked good and it fitted in the instructions, so I shared it.
About the variety, i was looking for some non-futuristic human doodads, but with no result :S.
Fog (data): You have a little yellow-gray-ish fog if I see correctly which does fit very well into this scene. I got nothing to say on that, it seems like you won't get much improvement by trying to change the fog, it's seems all good to me.
Fog (doodads): Even these fogs are well done, you don't see their texture like some other fogs, they don't make line in the water, there are not too many, but just enough to get the feeling you want to create. It's very well done.
Main focus: When I look to this picture, what I first look at is, the whole big rocks out of the water, and it's pretty much the main focus! Even if it looks like a background, in this scene, it's what you want us to look at.
Second focus: In general, the second focus is behind the main focus, but in front of the background... However, this is not the case here as the second focus would be more like the tree on the left, the plants on the bottom and top, the big sun plant on the right... these create a frame for your main focus. Well done again.
Background: The skybox you used fits very well with the terrain you've made. I feel like something else that would be quite awesome is a night picture where the sky is black with little white dots for stars reflecting on the static water... But no, it's a day light.
Ground heigh variation: Nothing to say for that as the goal is to don't use this tool, and you've not used it, so I guess it's all good.
Texture variation: The only texture we can barely see is the one in the water. I wonder if you could create some variations for that as the bottom of water generally has rocks, plants, and stuff...
Camera point of view: Nothing to say, the screen seems all balanced to my eyes, the tree and leaves on the left balanced by the plants and the cloud on the right, the rocks in the water spread equally, the fog smoothing the overall...
Camera field of view: You didn't use that and I feel like you've got it right. The lightning and the fog did everything.
Lightning (doodads): I don't see any doodads having light effects.
General lightning (window): You have a pretty nice lightning really shiny, making the green leaves change to nearly shiny yellow. A night vision could be nice =P
Water (data): I talked about it in the texture... I feel like something is missing in the water, it feels empty. No branches, no leaves, no rocks, nothing... The water itself is fine, nice color, some reflection. It's ok.
General terrain: So, in overall, you've got a pretty epic terrain where I feel like the water could still have some work. Like, I suggest you using some Xil fossils as they might be quite nice in such scene, what about fishes, or something... But yeah, except of that, you got it right.
Sorry, I just read your post. I don't know if I still have that map, but if I find it, i'll take Scbroodsc2 advices to finish it and upload it in a couple of days.

Your terrain is so freaking good, probably from the best I've seen, that these pictures can be used like a wallpaper, I love them! Do you have a map?
First of all, sorry for the necrobump
