I totally forgot lightings! With your advices, I've prepared another kind of possible excursion. Just think of a scouting ghost that fall on a secret dominion weapon.
(okay I may have spent a bit of time with this one)
You mean a secret Weapon like this??? :D (not exactly stumble upon seeing as he as been there for a while with the bullet shells on the ground and all the other stuff)
All jokes aside, It is good to see others learning from each other, including me :)
At this point... it's just awesome. I don't know what to say. This in FPS view where you can move around and look at the city would be epic Haha. But I guess it is not that "beautiful" from all angles. This will surely get into the next WTE video 101 to 200 Haha!
Could you post a behind the scene screenshot? Like, seen from an angle where you see how you made it?
Here are the behind the scenes pictures as requested! :D I assume these are what you meant by behind the scenes pictures.
The lamp is a combination of a couple of doodads, and the stack of papers on the desk are really thin ground props, I was just difficult to find doodads that suited my needs seeing as starcraft 2 is not a modern game as it is a futuristic game. You can also see a spoon on the table and some meat on the plate lol
Edit: It just dawned on me that you were probably talking about the marines and the city shot lol... I will post those up in a moment. If you look closely, you will notice that all the details are close up, and the things in the distance just have the general windows and general street.
So, my entry to this WTE concerns expedition AND exploration at the same time. The entry concerns a conceptual 'What If' situation, as well as a concept for the interior of a Xel'Naga installation, one of my actual ideas for a WTE as well, as you might have read or not. This concern on what would happen if Raynor and his Raiders had decided to enter the Xel'Naga Temple in Wings of Liberty, post 'The Dig' mission (Yes, the one with the big laser that you get to vape Protoss with it). This would also serve as a reference better than what was used for the third Hybrid mission in Heart of the Swarm, that I felt it failed to reach the full potential it could be used for this map tileset.
This was finished today, right at the release of the new Pitch and Roll tools Blizzard has released for the Terrain module, thus allowing some new combinations that'd make the Xel'Naga building interior far more complete. However, I feel that the installation itself, obviously, is not completed, because of the few Xel'Naga-ish doodads available, only a few were added in Heart of the Swarm concerning this matter, and I feel the real load will come in Legacy of the Void. The Protoss character I set in there is a guardian to the temple's interiors, to prevent the Raiders from getting the artifact piece and stuff. But it wouldn't be alone, as I intended there'd be Xel'Naga living machines, guardians that'd test Raynor's meddle and it'd be a thing that'd amaze him and worry him at the same. Unfortunately, since there are no ready Xel'Naga machine-like units available as of now, the Protoss guardian alone will have to make do.
Inspiration for this WTE was Darksiders II, mainly concerning the exploration part in the Tombs of the Dead World. Darksiders II, IMO is pretty much a different copycat of World of Warcraft, because of RPG elements and stuff, but the first Darksiders copied God of War, so I kind of forgive that. Still, it had a much complex and intricate level design, and I believe the dead world and the makers' nordic-like world were two of the best scenarios I passed through. I wanted to transfer a part of the tombs' scenario to Starcraft II, and what better installation would there be now than the Immortal Forge tileset, especially because of the sexy cliffs that now make this installation *feel* alien, unlike the ship in Wings of Liberty, that used Terran-ish cliffs?
Also, I think the only thing I had to change was making a recoloring of one of the tilesets of the Daelaam Ark for this WTE, I hope there's nothing wrong with it because I liked the design of that texture.
Now THAT is an Xel'Naga temple. It would make for a beautiful terrain for a boss fight. The fog gives even more of that alien feel that you were shooting for. The central, well ill call it spire, shown in pictures 4 and 5 is beautifully done. You have also achived a well done feeling of being under ground, or in an enclosed building seeing as were you can walk seems to be confined and constricted, yet the contrast of the open areas give the feel of how massive the structure must be.
Your use of decals is beautiful. I myself take pride when decals are artfully put together. absolutely beautiful, the design on the ramp in picture six made me want to just stop and stare at it. Beautifully well done. Simply put, that is badass.
Now moving onto my next one because I have a ridiculous amount of time on my hands, I wanted to make a terrain showing one of many general applications of using the pitch and rotation tool on doodads while actually being on topic :) .
Thanks for the critique on my installation. Although, I confess, I'm now feeling the entrance was a little bit cluttered and stuff.
Your cave's not bad either, it gives a cavern feeling for an FPS or ARPG map. Although I have a grip or two concerning those floodlights because they have those lens flares, it doesn't hurt the scene at all.
I went through all WTE from 101 to now and downloaded almost all the submissions pictures and maps for those who linked them... I have (excluding the current wte which has a bunch of good submissions) 314 pictures and 24 maps. With this I could make a pretty nice video just like the other one I made for the 100th wte. I want to say, the most epic terrains are mostly from the same people that frequently post wte, special thanx to those terrainers: joecab, sgtnoobkilla, Telthalion, Cacho56, DeltaCadimus, SheogorathSC, Nebuli2, HydraMannequin, madlibrarian, Thunderzak, ScrinKing. Note that everyone without exception is welcome and can post their terrain try.
Random fact: Whoever says that 12 Drone rush is not a viable strategy in 2v2, I want him to see this... As I won 18 games straight before losing at the 19th game. It needed Master league level players to stop it. Haha.
Basicly, 12 Drone rush
vs Protoss = high win ratio. cause Probes sucks vs Drones and if you kill enough Probes, you can attack the first pylon and kill it before the first Zealot is out.
vs Terran = normal win ratio. SCV are quite good with their 45 hp. However, if the terran hesitate just a little too much, you win.
vs Zerg = low win ratio. As the Zerg will most likely have more Drones than you at this point, except if he went for very early ling.
Mix this strategy in a 2v2 with a friend cheesing as well behind, like 2 rax proxy or zerglings, or whatever else, and it's GG.
