28/04/2013 - State of the mod
Apparently HotS/the latest major Starcraft 2 update has once again caused some small problems throughout the campaigns. However, aside from episode 3, it seems there are no major issues present at the moment, 99% of everything should work. Everything should be compatible with both HotS and WoL - but probably more compatible with WoL. If you're experiencing problems, try switching to Wings of Liberty mode in the Starcraft 2 gameplay options menu. If you're getting "unable to open map" errors when using the campaign launcher and your Starcraft 2 is up to date, chances are you don't have the necessary files in the right locations - read the instructions carefully.
Know that we're still not happy with the state of the remake. We're already knee-deep in working towards a larger update to all six episodes, so there's no turning back to doing small bug fixing updates. We're making good progress so far, and looking to have everything done by the end of the year (hopefully major mod-breaking updates to the game have settled down a little bit by then). There likely won't be any updates this summer.
The upcoming version(s) will require Heart of the Swarm.
First of all, huge thanks to Ultraling and Maverck for having done most of the work and making this campaign possible. Both of them were awesome about letting me use their stuff to put this thing together. These are originally Ultraling's maps, found here in sc2mapster. I picked them up a long time ago and slowly worked on them, editing terrain, adding all kinds of flavor here and there, including Maverck's Brood War mod, and this is the result.
Features
- all 10 original missions + the tutorial
- original SC1 units and structures with original stats, including custom models
- original SC1 Terran soundtrack
- all the dialogue, voice acting & other miscellaneous text from the original campaign
- classic unit decals, such as Alpha Squadron, Sons of Korhal etc.
"Artistic License"
(some notable differences from the original campaign)
- Medics - to balance out the units Brood War style, and to provide more options to the player
- extra "hero" abilities: Kerrigan has the snipe ability, Raynor can replenish Spider Mines
- Mission 4 "The Jacobs Installation" - third person mode (optional)
- two difficulty levels - with a somewhat more aggressive AI than in the original, in order to provide some challenge to the average player

How to play
- extract the mod file (SC1BWmod) to your "Mods" folder in your Starcraft 2 install directory (NOT the folder under "My Documents")
- extract the map pack to the "Maps" folder in your Starcraft 2 install directory (create the folder if it doesn't exist)
- extract the Campaign Launcher & setup to the same "Maps" folder (not the campaign folder)
Campaign Launcher installation:
- launch the Starcraft 2 editor
- open the setup map named SCMRsetup in your Maps folder and click the "test document" button on the top right (or press ctrl+F9)
- wait until the launcher loads and you're at the title screen, then save the game and exit the map (press esc or F10 to open the game menu)
- find the save file (named "Starcraft - Mass Recall" by default) in (your home/documents folder)/Starcraft II/Saves/VersusAI
- copy or move the save file to the saves folder under your account folder (your home/documents folder)/Starcraft II/Accounts/.../.../Saves/Multiplayer (for example; any of the save folders will do)
- Done! You can now log into the appropriate account and load the save from the load game-screen. You can use this save to play each episode.
more info:
- You can copy the save file to whatever accounts you want. For example, if you want to play offline, copy it to your guest account folder.
- If you're unsure of the right folders or can't find the Starcraft II documents folder, log into an account of your choice in SC2, go to the load game-screen, click on a save and click the "show in folder"-button. It will take you to the appropriate saves folder.

Ultraling Apr 13, 2011 at 20:09 UTC - 0 likesOkay, I figured out why everybody says Mission 8 The Big Push is so brutal. The AI is bugged. I'll have to fix that for the update as well. With the map cheat on, you can observe that the AI performs the waves it should, but for whatever reason, in between waves the AI will constantly dump any and ALL of its non-wave units (sans workers) at the player. This is a bug that occurs with the AI on some maps. Should be able to fix it with some tweaking.

Thanks for that extremely well written and detailed review of the campaign, dude. :) Yeah, we were going for a faithful recreation of the originals. That's the best way to put it. We didn't have any extra content in mind, just wanted the old build and destroy beat-em-up style of gameplay experienced in the original Starcraft. Didn't want to add any overly gimmicky objectives or mechanics.
We'll see about including the cutscenes in the campaign someday. Right now the main focus is on producing the missions themselves. The cutscenes would probably have to be done in-game with ripped audio from the original cinematics.
Modifying the SC2BW mod file means that every time SC2BW updates, we will have to redo our edits to the mod on our end. If we are to update the mod file for the campaigns, we'll have to go through every campaign scenario to be sure all the dependencies still work properly. It will have to be an infrequent thing for sure, but for the sake of those sexy new models you mentioned, I just might do that.

What operating system are you on? Did you unzip and copy all game files to their correct folders?

SimplyCool988 Apr 13, 2011 at 16:12 UTC - 0 likesOk,i played through Rebel Yell and I felt i had to register just to give you feedback and appropriate phrase.
Fantastic Job!!
To elaborate....
+Faithful, almost miraculous recreation of the Original, considering how different SC2 design is,compared to BW .Never for a moment did i feel,i wasnt playing the same campaign,i had gone trough so many times during my adolescence.Above all fantastic terrain design, perfect lighting, stellar dodad placement.(you really brought the "Lived in" and "Alive" to those classic maps.Special mention goes to Antigan Night Wilderness,Mengst base in Mission 7 and the compromised platform New Gettysburg.)
+Perfect mix between challenge and original AI.That said the AI was a little stupid, but wielded appropriately overwhelming numbers.Still a little easy though,as they blindly charged into my mined tank lines or didnt notice my cloaked ghosts or wraiths.-Instant slaughter.Still the AI behaved as it would have in the SC1 Variant(predictable),if a little smarter.
+Very nice cinematics, with appropriately chosen music, brought the atmosphere and mood shining to the forefront.*(Great improvement over the original)Especially liked the post mission 8 cinema, and the beginning of 9 and 7.
-Almost a too "faithful" recreation. No additional objectives or mechanics and no inclusion of expanded lore material.(the two bonus missions, etc)As a port its about as perfect as it can get,but i kinda wish you had gone just a tad beyond.Oh well still marvelous work!!!
-No recreation of the Original CG *giggles* cinemas. Those really are archaic nowadays and could've used an update, as you proved SC2s engine is capable of great cinematography and lighting. Some,if not all of them could be recreated.
Cant wait for The Fall.Keep up the good work, its amazing.
PS.Bit of an outdated version of Maverick's stellar mod.Still sufficient, but i think GNAs newer models should make the cut. Im glad you left medics in,as they make gameplay alot more fun,but why were there Valkyries.(They just dont fit,i think)Also as someone else mentioned, you might wanna consider the tougher 'merk" models for the UED units, should you go so far.

Ultraling Apr 13, 2011 at 16:11 UTC - 0 likesHusky noted something about the medics in one of his videos about them being extremely effective. It's good that he did because I looked into the numbers and it seems our medics are healing at 3:1 HP/energy ratio and SC:BW medics healed at 2:1. That's 150% more effective medics. Yeah... gonna nerf that in the next update.

You're welcome. Have fun with the campaign. :)

I'm going through the campaigns now for some quick bug squashing. I'll have a look at Trump Card later.

thebeststarcraft Apr 13, 2011 at 15:25 UTC - 0 likesI'm getting a bug on level 7 - The Trump Card. There's no briefing screen and no objectives once the level starts. I'm guessing it has something to do with either getting the Psi Emitter or Kerrigan to the beacon, but I tried both of these and nothing happened. I also tried killing all enemies on the level to no avail. Anyone else having this problem?
Besides this and a couple other small bugs already noted the campaign is great and a lot of fun. Thanks again to the authors/coders.

If you're using Windows then you have to Right Click on the zip file and "Extract" it....checkmark the box that says "show files after extracting" then when the folder shows, put them in your install directory. to find the directory, go into my documents, then click in the URL bar; to the left of the search bar. Then type "Program Files" and look for Starcraft II. There should alot of folders in there. This is where you put all the files.

Nah, man. That's just the Start menu shortcuts. You need to place the SC1mod.SC2Mod file in the Mods folder in your Starcraft II directory. The default installation directory is "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft II\".
You'll know you've found the place when you see folders for Core.SC2Mod, Liberty.SC2Mod, and LibertyMulti.SC2Mod.

I've done this and it still doesn't work. it may be a glitch in the maps I'm not sure, but Raynor still doesn't spawn. Now by where i installed the game do you mean in the start menu? Cuz I've tried that, even made the folder and it still didn't work.

Check the Files page: http://www.sc2mapster.com/maps/sc1-episode-1-rebel-yell/files/
Shadowfex66
It goes in the Mods folder of your Starcraft II directory, where you installed the game. This folder should already exist.
