posted a message on Can't use map editor

That's so stupid, I swear I use to be a blizzard fan but they'll do ANYTHING to screw over their fans. Since when do I have to buy the game and jump through all these hoops just to make a goddamned map? :/ Meh, this just proves I was smart in not buying the game, I feel sorry for those who spent money and still have to jump through such hoops. Oh well, thanks for the info.

posted a message on Can't use map editor

As the title says, I can't use the editor. I decided to go back and work on a map I started way back during the beta, was bored. Installed SC2 (old installer I had, again from the beta) and booted up the map editor. But every time I try to log in, it says it's expired. Is this because I don't have the game (Never bought it, hated Bnet too much to buy it), and if so is there a way around it? I shouldn't have to shell out 60 bucks just to toil around in the editor.

P.S. Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I didn't really see a forum that encompassed general editor help :(

posted a message on rotating units that can't rotate

Do you want the armory-unit to rotate ingame? Because if not the method Nevir wont work for you. However if you simply want to rotate it in the editor that's as easy as double-clicking it and setting up which way you want it to turn. Or if you want ALL units of that type to face a specific way, go into the data editor and edit it's stats, you can set it's angle there.

posted a message on omg unit damage

Damage is set by the specific weapon said unit uses. Go to effects and find the weapon with (Damage) next to it's name, then click "Combat" and you can adjust it's damage. The unit should say what weapon effects it uses.

Edit: For an easier route just click your unit and from there click the effect (damage). It should be right under the units Actors.

posted a message on Some questions

I'll keep this in numerical order since it's easier.

1: I looked around but the problem I have with this is that when someone offers help, I can't follow their advice. In this case you mention Action Actor, and "launch attachment query methods" and other such things. But no matter how hard I look, I can't find anything even remotely close to what you're talking about.

2: This one worked perfectly, so thank you :D

3: Hmm, I looked into it but didn't figure anything out, not like it's a pressing concern anyways.

4: Like number one, these actors just give me tons of trouble. No matter how hard I look I can't find anything remotely like what people tell me. I tried to take the jerry-rigged way out and just copy-pasted the disruptors actors, but that didn't work out too well. I'm sure these actors things would be easy if I could just understand them @:

posted a message on Some questions

K well, I have some questions I need answered, so I'm hoping someone here could help.

1: I gave my ships an ability to launch a nuke, it's suppose to fire a missile turret missile and when it detonates, detonate like a nuke. It works fine except for the fact that the missile flies from the ground beneath the ship, rather then from the ship itself.

2: Is there a way to change a weapons period fire-rate without a persistent file? I mean like.... I want a gun to go pewpewpew -pause- pewpewpew, but so far in my map the only way I know of getting that is with a Persistent file that allows you to change how many periods the weapon has and the time between them. But some weapons don't have that file, so I don't know how to change it.

3: Is it possible to change the color of a projectile? I wanted to use the photon cannon projectile for two different weapons, but one weapon is suppose to fire green shots rather then blue.

4: How do you go about creating a continious beam? Like the Void Ray or Sentry. I want to use the Archon attack, but make it one continious beam, but I just can't figure out how. I asked in another thread of mine and I was led to believe the answer lied with Actors, but I couldn't find the solution there and the guy who helped me never replied back.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated, as these problems are severely limiting the progress I can make.

    @s3rius: Go

Maybe in the final version of the editor we'll actually be able to cannibalize models like that. :O

posted a message on Extending my map

For once I can be helpful (not really since Hegen said it first) but yeah, you CAN copy terrain. I'm not sure if it has to be blank, or if it can have doodads and stuff on it. But in my map I had a section I needed to repeat, I just dragged a box over it, copied it, and pasted it. In the pasting phase you can move it around. Unfortunately the terrain doesn't show up until after you placed it, so it'll be hard to line it up just right.

posted a message on Make a building buildable anywhere

Ok thanks, I'll go try those now.

Edit: Ok I got it to be buildable in space by removing it's footprints and making it's plane/mover air. But another question regarding the turret, is there a way to make it so it can only be built in space, and not on land? It's suppose to be an ORBITAL defense platform, after all.

Edit: Ok I looked around the actors but I couldn't find anything even remotely close to your "BeamStyleAnimationContinuous" Is it not an actor... or... what?

posted a message on Make a building buildable anywhere

Double post since I have another question and don't feel like making a new thread (and a bump is always nice too)

I'm trying to give a unit an ability where he fires a beam at a target and does damage over time, like the void ray. I know you do this via persistents but I can't figure out how to get a specific damage effect to use a persistent. I want the beam to use the Archons beam, but all it will do is fire once and be done with it. I've tried using the void ray, and the disruption beam from the Sentry. I even looked at the actors but I can't tell what actor would make it be persistent like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

posted a message on Make a building buildable anywhere

Just woke up and decided to have a look, I can't find anywhere in the footprint that'd allow me to turn off it's build restrictions. I've been all over the footprint data, and there isn't much there to change. Anything that could even remotely effect it's placement, I've tried changing. :|

How do I make it so that I can build a building anywhere? I have a building that's suppose to be an orbital defense platform, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make it buildable in space, any help would be appreciated.

posted a message on Tracking mines

Hmm, ok well so far I have a point defense drone that can fly around, I gave it the baneling explode attack and it explodes like a nuke. So far it's working decently enough, only I can't get it to attack on it's own. Even when I attack move, or place it right next to an enemy, it'll just sit there. If I manually tell it to attack, it performs fine. Any idea how to make it automatically attack?

Edit: Ok I got it to automatically attack but I've hit another problem. I gave it the baneling volatile burst attack, but it's not self destructing. It just flies around shooting nukes at melee range, rather then blowing up as a nuke. It worked correctly before, before I started messing with the auto-attack and whatnot. I don't know what I coulda messed up :(

Edit2: Ok nvm, I got it to work. Thank you guys for helping me out, it's working perfectly now :D

Hmm, that's a good idea. But what about movement? Is it possible to make it so it can move, but that the player can't move it themselves?
