Currently we (a few members from the Mapster community) are developing our own Editor, called MilkyWayEdit. It requires no XML editing knowledge and can be used to create maps, :).
I'd like to ask, is it complicated to make 3d models for Starcraft 2? I would like to make some custom 'wall' buildings for my map, but I'm not sure if it's something I'd be able to do or not. Is there a model creator included with Galaxy or would it require outside programs?
Aside from what Corbo has said; to answer your other question, I do not believe there will be any type of modeling [customization] support in GalaxyEdit.
Collada is a pretty good format, witchsong. If your 3d modelling program doesn't support it, it's time to change it :P Naw, just kidding, but .dae should be fine.
Max integration will be awesome too.
I thought Witch was working on a COLLADA converter?
As I understand it... The Maps will be uploaded to Battle.net and be stored on the Battle.net server. Now, you go to a "Custom Map Gallery" and download map. When you have to pay for a map, it will charge you, and the map will go into something along the lines of a "Purchased Content" folder on Battle.net. From there, you can join/host the map as you'd like, and the map will be stored in your Cache folder.
Kanaru, you're quite the artist, that's impressive...
Also, if you didn't know, Witchsong and NiNToxicated are the two who run the libm3 google code, they've been discussing their findings here... If you were wondering how that's going, ;P.
Shouldn't be getting that error... Well... Did you have SC2 running when you were trying to open the MPQ? SC2 doesn't like sharing and will give you that message. Otherwise, try running the MPQ Editor in Admin Mode.
No worries at all, any questions, feel free to ask, =).
Mmmm, figured that's what you meant. But yeah, I would even go as far as saying 90% of the maps that are made and are actually popular some a 3rd party editor. Honestly, StarEdit was extremely lackluster in all areas. Even if the map does not utilize stacking or anything of the such, I guarentee it was by a 3rd party editor. Terraining in StarEdit could only be diamonds, with the 3rd party editors, you could make rectangles, 1x1 squares, use all of the terrain instead of what's given, etc.
Ah, I gotcha. I believe I remember reading that GE will offer protection and compression features, rendering that impossible now, :). Unless of course, someone writes an unprotector..
It'll be similar to iPhone apps, I'm sure. Blizzard will probably cap the amount you can charge (or will only let you charge $1).
Don't think there will be a static number for price. Basically, Blizzard takes a percentage of the total earnings per map (not sure what the percentage is, may vary depending on your price), but i'm sure there will be a min/max price range.

Nicely done, boys, :).

Oh... You're trying to use the ones cached? I'm not exactly sure how the works, though I guess it'd be good to know.
If you want to do some map editing, try downloading a map we have up here and checking it out.

Hrm? What file are you trying to open? It should be mapname.s2ma, or one of the game MPQ's, like base.SC2Data, etc.

Whoa, that's.... Whoa.
Contest is still open to whoever can submit a working map though.

@Bibendus: Go
I disagree... consider the amount of maps on SC1/War3, will Blizzard go through each and every single map and set a maximum price cap?
nowai!
