Special thanks to RileyStarcraft for his idea of planet view in "Sorcerer's Defense". Play his map now on US.
Cons, read this before deciding to use
No dynamic camera modifying. Camera is tied to the model. Getting the right camera for dynamic modifying is not encouraged
Need campaign dependencies. You have to change 2 small data editor fields if you want Battlenet Glue and Albion (due to Blizzard's data not included).
- Go to Model - BattleNet Glue - And change the model directory to "Assets\UI\Glues\MainMenuSpace\MainMenuSpace.m3"
- Go to Model - Planet View Sigma Quadrant - And change the model directory to "Assets\UI\Starmap\PlanetViews\PlanetViewAlbion\PlanetViewAlbion.m3" (no .m3 model exists for sigma quadrant while no objects uses Albion model so I swapped them)
Promote sc2mapster in your map and credit Progammer if you used this library (ok not really a con but just put it here for now )
Pros
Easy to use, even the noobish, works on every map.
Advanced users can edit it to their liking, feel free to explore the library
Notes
v1.0
There are two parts of the library, detailed in step 3, use them appropriately
How to use this library
Step 1: Preparation
Open any map of your choice, with whatever terrain and size, make sure you followed instruction in the Cons part if you want that particular planet
Step 2: Copy The Library
Open my demonstration map and copy the library trigger over to your map (anything under the comment line)
Step 3: Use the Function
Library Listing and Planet List:
Function listing:
Starmap Dialog Init
Initialize all dialogs used for starmap naviagtion
Use it in your map initialization
Not needed if you only use the simple planet view without the UI
Apply Starmap View
Show all the starmap dialog and start the galaxy view by default
Player: Choose the player that you want to show the starmap. Works for multiplayer
Point: Point position in which the planet model will be created. Just make sure there's nothing in the way.
Apply Planet View (Simple)
Show the specific planet for player, no UI associated.
Player: Choose the player that you want to show the planet. Works for multiplayer
Planet: Choosing which planet you want to display, either by an integer index, or by my planet preset.
Point: Point position in which the planet model will be created. Just make sure there's nothing in the way.
Duration: Time it take to fade in and out to the planet.
Text: Text Crawl that will be displayed under planet names (for advanced user read below)
Exit Planet View
Exit the planet view and return to normal game. Used for both apply starmap and apply planet action
Player: Choose the player that you want to exit.
Duration: Time it take to fade in and out to normal game.
Note for localization issue: If you does not see the trigger name due to localization, use those above screenshot to rename them.
For Advanced Users
Take a look inside the trigger and tweak it accordingly. Please do credits even if you changed them
The Planets Preset is used to store index and number of planets. Change them to your liking
The function Planet preset to Name is used to display text crawl, rename your planet if you want.
Feel free to ask any question regarding how the library works. I will be happy to explain.
If you have seen all 26 planets, leave a comments below: which one was your favorite planet ?
I looked a bit thru it but I think the most important question is:
Can we add different stuff to the planets or when viewing one? This could give some rise to some alternative games where one travels between planets etc. It looked quite mass effect like, too.
The planet are models associated with the camera, so most thing you want would involve editing the model itself. Other wise you can have some kind of transition at most. They can be some decent background for you game menu
They are text crawl, used in campaign, no need to be on high setting. Mine was low also. How come you can create such effects on your TD with low setting ?
I guess modify the model directory might work, i have documented the model file in the first posts( rename the agria to the bnet). Again, proceed with caution.
Unless the bnet mpq has another exact model and this one is not used. (considering the lightning doesnt fit)

It a very very nice UI. but have a small problem. After finished viewing Planet, camera can't be returned normal. camera height is broken. I want to fixed but i dont know how.
Sorry for the necro, but what would be a good practical use for this? I know that you could use it "offline" in a single player setting but since you cant switch maps on battle.net what would be a good way to use this for a game on battle.net.

Wow really nice.

The planet name/description text looks awesome. Did you use some sort of special effect or is that just how text looks when you have a good computer?
I've only ever seen this game on low :( :( :(

Hey cool stuff, what is the image or button used for the arrows on the side of the screen in planet view? I've been looking for something like that!
@OneTwoSC: Go
planet panel arrow or something like that, just search for arrow
@progammer: Go
may I ask how you made it? Is it a dialog button with an image set for it? (Can you do that?)
Or is it a button with a dialog image type faked behind it?
Thanks.

Open the map yourself, its no vodoo :P
And i documented it carefully
Very cool progammer. I bet that StarGate Galaxies project team will love this!
Such a simple yet brilliant idea!
really cool, how did you do it?
Amazing work, as usual Progammer :D
Do you think it would be possible to replace the current "battle net glue" with those planets (even if it's "illegal" :P) ? I love the Agria one xD

Thx man, I'll look into that.
if you could access missions in the galaxy view it would make a great theater of war
is there a way to use these planets as skyboxes?

Congrats on necroing a 3 year old thread. Why don't you on the maker our create a new thread in the trigger section.
