After a somewhat abstract WTE, this week's WTE theme is going to be a little bit more hands on: "War-torn". This theme refers to any kind of terrain that looks like it has been torn apart by war - whether you show us a ghost town or the site of a recent battle still littered with corpses is up to you, as long as you depict something ravaged by war.
Looks interesting... I'm in a terrain rush so maybe I'll make a try. I finished the terrain I was working on and it looks really good. I'm going to eat and after try this War-torn ;)
your post makes we want to sit down for 8 hours and obliterate that statement ;)
On a serious note, I also find it funny that the weekly terraining exercise has always had a bit of competition even though the purpose is simply for people to make a little, or ,if they want, a big creation, improving and exploring their terraining in the editor.
I have even looked back and taken some ideas from others and my own terrains in the past and incorporated some of the unique textures or doodads that were combined into a game's terrain.
I agree with youre statement in looking back at previous WTEs, that said the competition i dont feel it in my case im just a noob hanging around with master of terrain. You guys have talent show it up mate! But i just wish you guys will make the maps available so others noobs like my self could learn more and if you mess with the light describe or just post a picture of what you did with it to make it look like that and so on. We are here just because we want to improve and you guys have better skill to show them do it by all means, I will be looking at youre creations.
Thx, but have some faith in yourself wargirl, you too can make some interesting doodad usage. Maybe you're not at making a huge whole terrain, but you've shown that you can use doodads in interestings and unique ways. You've been doing maps for a moment now, you're not a "noob", you are learning and you have much more knowledge than a real "noob".
Some comments on Brood's terrain: I actually don't like it all that much. I think it's too cluttered. A destroyed city, sure, but this city is so sompletely wrecked that it's hard to even still see a city in it; it's more a pile of debris than anything else. I think it could've been a little less over the top. Also there's that horribly clipping white thing around the 36 seconds mark in the video.
My hearth is broke Moz... You don't like my terrain... Joke! I can take some constructive feedback. You're right about this completelty destroyed city... I think my terrain lacks the "story" part that I always tell about when doing reviews. I did not questionned myself, I just, did it and placed stuff around until it looks actually interesting in some ways. But yeah, I don't think we can call that a city anymore. Now that I think of it, I think what you was expecting more is a normal city (kinda) where it has some military impacts, like, a tank in the road next to vehicules, a building blowed next to beautifull building, debris in a park, etc. Instead of a whole mess of debris.
Okay so I can't use reply on mobile, so you'll have to pretend this is a proper reply.
@sgtnoobkilla Nice! Can't wait to see more! Also, you're in aus too?
@wargirlwargirl I suppose I should give you a proper response instead of just "lel be patient". I started with a blank zerus map, which I then changed the textures to: Zerus Dirt, Zerus Dirt Dark, Zerus Pebbles, Zerus Algae, Phaeton Shale, Char Fortress Panels, Char Fortress Panels Detail, and I can't remember the last one. I then replaced one of the Zerus cliff types with Char Fortress Cliff Manmade, and painted "lower". Following that, I grabbed some large rocks made their x and y scales to 200 I think, and z to 50. Then I placed them all around and lowered them under the platform when needed. I then added vegetation on them and added lava pillars, and after that I painted all the necessary textures on the floor and platform, and added lighting regions, one absolute pitch black, and the other a very very dim blue and painted the dark areas dark. I also added sunrays. Then I added the space platform scaffolding and the abandoned colony ship. Using pitch and roll, I positioned them, added more vines, and added debris and marine corpses at the bottom. Then I added more vines. After that I added more vines. Once that was done I added even more vines, then I decided to add more vines. Finally, I added more vines and my work was done. 6hrs-ish?

Are you sure you have enough vines? I think there could be more, what do you think? xD
Weekly Terraining Exercise #171
Hey hey people!
Good luck and have fun everyone!

Lots of patience. I'll upload the map file later, I'm working on another area right now.
I've worked on it for 14 hours *.*
This is all cave by the way
Made some more changes, might start working on the interior instead of having it all black soon.
Still WIP but here's a quick screenie for now:

Vines are like the rocks for rocks. I approve of this man's methods.
