If you now try every trick to ignore TWO polls and take a map that is on page 1 or 2 anyways, as suggested by Mr Taco, then I consider this project hypocritical and not worth my time.
Strike my name off the supporters list.
Isn't the whole purpose of this to make maps popular that are currently not played, but good?
Seriously, most people here seem to like battle planets, why not just take that for the first map?
It seems like some people want to make so many polls till at some point their map comes out on top. That's seriously ridiculous. It's not even like there was only one chance for their map to be chosen or like people wouldn't consider playing anymore after the first map.
quit voting against rodrigo and just wait until this thing kicks into gear... he's not adding polls just to promote other maps, but rather he's stalling until everything's ready. First of all we only had 2 publishers last time i checked, unless sixen is willing to help; this may need improvement. Second, if everyone is telling him that battle planets is the way to go, then we go battle planets. right now it's indecisive since some people have spoken against battle planets.
one more thing...
does everyone here SERIOUSLY love battle planets that much? lol???
i admit i might be screwing things up by questioning whether battle planets should go or not. frankly we need this project to kick into gear so that people feel reassured. If battle planets isn't the best map, we may have to ignore that fact for the sake of time. rodrigo, i'm asking you to ignore any scrutiny i've given and just run with the map that's winning the votes
also... what if all of the votes came out as "rodrigo is a hater"
i'm sure the project would stay alive, but how the hell would we decide if a map is good enough?
Hey im a little late but im definately supporting this, and i agree, we need to get started so if Battle Planets is the popular choice, so b it, if we dont start soon we will lose the momentum we've gained.

Same here.
You can't put a poll, be fine with it, and suddenly disagree because the rest of the people doesn't think like you.
I think Battle Planets is a good candidate, and that's why I voted for it.
i submitted my vote for battle planets... i've looked over my previous posts about it, and i think what we need is a map just like this one. It's not my favorite map on the list, it's not one of my maps, it's not even a map that i really like, but it's a map that everyone else wants and it could use the popularity
if this map will earn more attention than the others, then let's just go for it and dive head first. The point of the first map is to breathe some life towards map of the week. Whenever you're ready rodrigo, just say the word and i'm sure the map will get published and this project will be on its way. As for any trolls still watching this thread (not the people against battle planets, but the people against the whole idea) you should be damn respectful that somebody started this thing in the first place. despite your optimism or pessimism, it would be fan-freakin-tastic if this did what we're all expecting... and i'm expecting to it fix the problem that's kept us hanging by our necks above a stool with a loose leg----the popularity system
now before anyone goes on about "oh blizzard is the best fan-serving company ever!" i'm not saying they're not, but i'm just saying that they're attempts to fix this particular online system have failed. i'm not blaming the doctor for my illness, but i can't say he's cured me either
btw rodrigo isn't against battle planets, he's just hesitant about the project... everyone keeps clicking the "go fuck yourself" box and voting. He's told me that he has no problems with battle planets, but people are shunning the project with those stupid troll votes against him. another issue is the lack of publishers. for all we know, both of the publishers could have moved and thrown away their computers. we need more before we try to launch this thing so that it doesn't die out every time one of TWO publishers goes on vacation.
to assure you about his opinions, i voted for one of his maps initially and told him about it, then he told me, "do you actually like the map or did you just vote for it because i made it? don't vote for it unless you actually like my map"
please support him on this, don't threaten to ditch the whole project. we need all the help we can get (including more publishers. i would be a publisher myself, but it's the first week of school and i just finished a 3 month map project [my zombies map] and i can't handle it)
i'm asking us to work together and not screw up the best thing for the mapping community in a while
For the last time, this website has different opinions than the majority of the BNET community. I am saying that the first map needs to be really good, and widely considered as such.
The point of this is not to get unheard maps out there. There are 150 mappers that think their maps should be on the front page. The point is to show the community what we are capable of. The point of the first map is to get the map popular, and to do that, we need something that already is popular. Or, like I said, really really good.

Could somebody plz tell him that he is wrong? If not, I am wrong here.
srry stan, i love ur map but i severely disagree with you
the goal, in my opinion, is to get GOOD unpopular maps out there
i'm not using this to argue, but i'm curious about this:
how much % of the votes did battle planets have at the end of the original poll? does anyone know?
What sense would it make to put a map like mafia into the project? It's already popular and nobody would play another version of it that "randomly" comes up. And if it is played it would rather hurt the original map than benefit it, because the original map would lose popularity during that time. I would claim that motw will get much more recognition if it uses maps that aren't popular yet than if it uses maps like mafia or income wars that already are popular, maybe bookmarked etc.
i completely agree, and i think rodrigo does too. tacomanstan, i know you're not trolling and i understand what you're getting at, but we can't just be Machiavellian about this. we're not doing this the easy way, we're doing this the right way
my maps aren't popular and i don't give a damn... i care about this project because hundreds, if not thousands more are in worse condition than mine... and they may be better maps than my maps, battle planets, and any map on the front page. problem is that nobody would know or care what's going on either way. that's what needs to be fixed.
even for a mid-grade map, i know it can take about 3 months to make on average, and 8 months for more ambitious maps. when someone puts enough time, focus, and effort into something like this, it's as important as a work of art. No, it is a work of art and it should not die before the eyes of a listless, dissonant system.
I wrote a rather long post, but decided to delete it and just say a couple of things.
First map needs to already be popular. If not, the only chance the map has is if 25+ people advertise on BNET (in game, not the website) how people should try the map. But then it will suffer the same fate as every other map trying to get popular: People will wait for 5 seconds in the lobby, get bored, and go play something else.
Second map also needs to be popular, at least somewhat.
Everyone, and I mean everyone, needs to mention this map. Mention how the best mapmakers pooled together their resources to make a map that changes every week. Once again, in game. Posting this on forums will do nothing.
Lastly, stop being selfish. Map of the week. 4 maps a month. That means only 4 people a month benefit from this, from all of our work? I don't think so. That is not what you should be thinking. Of course it will help their maps, but no, that should not be what you are thinking. You should be thinking "This map will draw new mappers to our community, boot the motivation of all the discouraged mappers, and get the SC2Mapster community more well known."
I am sorry if that one is harsh, but the "rofl" comment pissed me off. What you are saying is not wrong, just, well, not what you should be focusing on. Think of getting less popular maps out there as a bonus.
you're point is good, but the majority of people working on this are thinking only of promoting maps that didn't get deserved respect. maybe you're right, but it's just a little painful the think that the point is to "prove ourselves" rather than the former idea. I think though, that battle planets is a good map regardless, and a lot of people already know about it (it got a lot of advertising)
another thing is that the new maps are supposed to inherit popularity from the previous map of the week, which should help it build more and more popularity with time
4 maps a month isn't great, but the maps are (hopefully, depending on the votes) good, and deserve the extra popularity they'll get
i would be happy if you agreed that promoting good unpopular maps is a definite purpose for this project, not just making the sc2mapster community better known and promoting the creation of new maps that nobody will play either. frankly, this community is nearly useless now because of the popularity system, and half of the advertised maps don't get attention at all. so what i'm saying is this: even if we boost the mapping community to be more productive, the popularity system is still a piece of shit. this project is supposed to help mappers get around that. THAT is what they need to get well known and more confident
i agree that the mapping community should get some strength, but only after the main problem it's dealing with is resolved
as for the unpopular maps that we'll be helping, a few seeds can grow a forest
and finally something personal to say: please don't be offended by my arguments, most people (less intelligent than the people on this community) just start cursing and trolling like crazy after a few of my posts. I respect your opinion, and it might be better than mine. I'm just talking about the moral aspects of this project

here's the actual quote
There was NO reason to put that anti-rodrigo option into the vote. Why does he feed the trolls?
battle planets looks like it was stolen from the Red Dwarf comedy from the episode where they had to block a white hole. Also why not promote ZHRPG?
