posted a message on Stan, The One-And-Only Taco Man, Is BACK!

    Hi

To those who don't know/remember me, I was an incredibly involved member of SC2Mapster for several years starting back in 2010. When I stopped playing SC2 to focus on other things my presence on the forums lessened a bit, but I would pop in once or twice a month to check. However, I haven't even visited the website in almost a year, and to my incredibly pleasant surprise, the forums have gotten a massive (and much needed) revamp! Woo-hoo! It looks like my moderator role wasn't transferred over with the update, but oh well; I'm just glad to be back!

Well, that's all I wanted to say, is hi. Otherwise, I'll mostly be hanging out in the SC2Mapster Discord Chat (which everyone should join RIGHT NOW if you haven't already).

So enough about me; what's new??? How have all of you been? I hear I even make a cameo appearance as a changeling named TacoManDan in a fan-made campaign! How cool is that? I'm honored!

Well, enough rambling; I'll see you all around!

I am back and now officially a member of the channel, so you can be sure there will always be at least some activity!

Oh darn, I was going to make an "I'M BACK!" thread before commenting on anything... oh well!

It's not SC2 related, hence the off-topic forum haha.

Although one of the projects does indirectly relate to SC2Mapster, because it's designing a new avatar/logo.

posted a message on Whos getting Heroes of the Storm and why should I buy it?

Comparing Heroes and the Storm and LoL/Dota 2/HoN is like comparing football to rugby. They might use a loosely similar concept, but the games themselves are very, very different. I personally think HoTS is much, much more entertaining than LoL (which I play quite often), just because of the casual atmosphere.

The trouble Blizzard is going to have is getting past the "just another moba" attitude that lots of people are giving the game, because in reality, it isn't.

Who knows, maybe in the future with Unity v91234.0 it's so easy that you can make games with voice commands and your PC reads your mind and recreates it exactly :P .

This reminds me of the old "Pacman.playPacman()" joke.

My friends and I made it up, but I think it's something most programmers have probably joked about. IE, the only code you have to write being "nameOfGame.playNameOfGame()", and everything works perfectly haha.

I guess I'll check out UE again, it's been like 6 years and at the time I was just too young and impatient to actually do anything with it. Plus I don't think it was free.

Also, sorry for hijacking this thread a bit, you can have it back now :P

posted a message on SC2 Mapping Scene

@MaskedImposter: Go That's sad. I was hoping with the revamp of the arcade (2 year ago now I think?) that things would change.

@Mozared: Go Yeah, I've been following SC2Mapster fairly regularly. It's the SC2 arcade community itself that I realized I don't know anything about anymore.

@TyaArcade: Go I hope so. I really have no idea what is going on with it, so I'll definitely have to read into it and check it out.

Actually, I'm more curious to know about the status as it is now. After lotv, there will be an artificial boost of players/popularity.

posted a message on Shameful ad of my unity game

Alright, noob question time. This might sound as stupid as "Can I play an XBOX One game on my PS4?" or "Should I use Microsoft Office or Linux?" to you, so stay with me here.

What's the difference between Unity and Unreal Development Kit? Is Unity just for apps? Am I making any sense? Am I making myself sound stupid? If possible I'd like an answer to all of those questions but the last please.

PS: I looked on Google but I couldn't find anything that is useful for someone with absolutely 0 idea what either of these things are.

    EDIT:

    Quote from MaskedImposter: Go

I also saw something about Unreal engine 4 is going to become free (with 5% gratuities on sold games). I'm curious on what you guys think of that program vs Unity.

Ah-Ha! Didn't notice that post. That means my questions are at least moderately valid. Hooray!

posted a message on SC2 Mapping Scene

I just realized that I have absolutely no idea what the SC2 mapping scene is like anymore. I play the occasional custom game, but with work, college(ish) stuff, and Borderlands 2 I don't have much time for it these days. But that will hopefully be changing soon.

Anyways, how does the popularity of SC2 custom games compare to what it was, say, 3 years ago? Do people still play often? I've seen several threads stating something about people turning back to WC3, which confuses me. Is that true?

posted a message on Recruiting for a Halo mod team

I honestly wouldn't worry about copywrite. If it gets super popular then Microsoft might do something about it, but honestly an SC2 Halo mod could never replace the actual game for a variety of obvious reasons. It's pretty safe to say that Microsoft wouldn't think it worth the time to come after you.

That being said, if the map does become popular, there's always the chance that Microsoft will ask you to take it down. Unlikely, but corporations have always done things that boggle my mind and make no sense to me, so you never know.

posted a message on Can I have some mod powers?

In reality, to be a mod, all you need is to be a constructive AND consistently active member of the community. I've been around for 4 years or something like that, and so have a lot of the other mods. That's really the most important thing.

Haha just kidding, I vote rap battle
