some map creators dont respect each other
almost everyone is pissed at blizzard for all of the problems with custom maps (and about being ignored completely)
Well, mainly because Blizzard's new direction in custom maps has been to turn the ever-happy blizzard mapping community into hateful groups of mappers turned against each others, using popularity system, so that when the marketplace is up, they spit hatefuly grandiose maps that will bring the company income in the future.
Well, I'd say that it is mainly due to Blizzard's failure to properly support mapping on Battle.net. They promised increased integration with Battle.net, however, it has only proven to have a detrimental effect on the community due to the awful implementation of their so called "Popularity system", their distribution service.
IS the populaity system the little bar to the right of all the maps?
Yes, and it sorts map by how much they're played. The most played maps are shown in the first couple of pages, this, in return, only allows popular maps to be played because they're so easily accessible. Other maps on the other hand, those that are on page 5+ will not get much or any attention at all.
Blizzard decided to host lobbies themselves for each and every map, in return, people can not simply host a unpopular map, and get any players, because the players are not going to scroll through the hundreds of pages.
It's a horrifying system that only allows maps whose authors have access to some sort of medium for advertisement to get any attention at all.
It's because pretty much almost all Blizzard's actions towards the map making community so far FAILED TERRIBLY. So, we think they failed so badly because they don't give a shit about the map making community.
(The "FAILED" includes several things, such as banning map makers by accident, banning several map makers from the forums, banning maps without properly explaining why, terrible maps being featured and winning the map contest, terrible popularity system to begin with, even worse updates to the popularity system, fun or not system that does not work, calling Nexus Wars as an example of a creative map-making community, forgetting about the custom map spotlight, asking map makers on BlizzCon to learn2advertise, giving interviews saying that the system is awesome and people are really happy with it, etc, etc, etc).
Is it a tug? is it a TD? is it a DOTA? is it a remake from WC3? is it a popular name? will it be overly advertised in several blogs and forums and paid banners?
If no for all questions above, the chances are really close to 0%
I dont get it, I have seen many people on this forum raging about blizzard and map creators!
Why is this? Can someone fill me in on whats happened?

What problems are there with the maps?

Meh.

It's pretty much ruining the community.

Popularity system is the way that maps are sorted when you press "Join custom games" and/or lack of any other way to sort maps.

It's a base / tower defense
Does that fall under those conditions?

Well, since it's a TD, you got an extra 1% of chance to be popular. :)
WOO HOO!!
Still, I find it annoying that the maps that advertise alot are the ones that are not, well as good as the maps that there are out there?
Squadron TD is an exception Do you agree?
