Hey, I'm looking to replay SC1 and BW story. But I'm searching for the best one out there, focused on the story and don't change so much stuff.
There's alot of unfinished stuff and weird SC1 campaign maps out there, anyone got an advice on which one is the best ?
I liked the whole "mysterious merchant telling stories" introduction to the game ! Reminded me of Aladdin somehow " !
True that Grom looks almost identical, while Sylvanas is a bit identical but you can't really tell as the "elven hooded ranger" is kind of a classic in med-f.
Didn't see the brewmaster well enough to see if he looked similar thought.
although I'm sure the reasons for doing a french site are perfectly innocent, i really do think cultures should learn to change a little. french people a lot of the time like to speak french because they are stubborn and dont want to speak english etc because they are in a strop about it and think they are 'losing part of their culture', the fact of the matter is, languages like french are largely obsolete, and don't benefit the community as much as that site would in say english etc.
i do understand that is offensive, but don't take this as an english person, wishing you would speak english, i personally couldnt care less. I would just rather everyone spoke the same language, as it means I could communicate with more people, utilise more information from different cultures and places and many many other things. if this 'world' language turned out to be dutch for example, then i'd learn dutch like everyone else and english to me wouldnt exist any more as i would have no use for it.
You either heard some french politics or just using plain stereotypes of France. True that some people think like this, but in any country you'll find the same conservative talk, and such image can't fit the whole population of a single country.
While I using english is definitivly not digging France's culture and that France have problems in its education program about speaking another language, I find the whole "languages are french are obsolete" both insulting and thoughtless.
Language refrains thoughts. Speaking a language is actually a great deal to the way you're thinking. For exemple, russians people have very good recognitions of color, whereas english-speaking people have not. Why ? Because russians people have a much larger vocabulary about colors.
Why do you think people still study extinct languages like latin and ancient greek ?
I do not consider myself as a hard french defenders (I'm polish/french/venezuelian) but I do speak 3 languages and my parents speaks 5 :
my point is that all languages commands different way of thinking, and that if everyone spoke the same language, that would actually make us very likely to think alike. To me, that would be terrible to the human collective sight. (see 1984 novel, where governement plans to unify the thought of the masses by inventing an universal and simple language)
I often surprise myself thinking in spanish, or english, or french, and having to speak differents languages is, to me, a way to have a clearer point of view and multiple way of thinking.
i would however vote for english or spanish as the world language as music is a huge part of my life and i think music translates much better into those languages ;-)
oh and im well aware this world language wont happen so good luck with your site anyway! but do try to continue sharing your knowledge in english as well (as i've seen you do before) as it will ultimately benefit more people =)
See, spanish and english musics can be both great because they have both their specific traits ! French songs, imo, are really hard to compose for the french language is a bit complicated and does not flow like english or spanish. Translate any good songs might it be by a rapper or the Beatles in french, it just sounds plain ridiculous. But if people try hard enough (and not try to imitate american songs with french lyrics that give shitty songs these days) it can be really beautiful in its own way.
Btw imo I think france language is better for poetry than songs.
I used to play those on SC1 and Warcraft III when I was a kid. I haven't see any RP map in SC2 since beta.
edit : for those who don't know, it was a simple sandbox-like map with commands to use where you could build whatever you wanted on a preset terrain.
How the game unfold ? A player make a town with quests, another player create a hero and play the other's one area like a DnD game. Or every player make a town and they use diplomacy or events to interact with other towns "our town has been attacked, we require your help" etc.
If you want a throw animation on your marines without sweating it, maybe just retextures the jim raynor marine model so that it can recieve teamcolor. It would be just a texture, not a whole model to import, and jim have a throw grenade animation.
"Boss HP Percent == 90.0"
This variable is weird. First, you might want to use something else than "90.0". Because the trigger will only works if he got exactly 90.0% life, so basically never.
Use "HP Percent =< 90" or "HP Percent < 90) instead.
Btw you don't need to use Set "Boss HP Percent" variable and directly put the calculation in the condition, since you use it only once.

If your boss is in the boss group, it's possible that the order "scv-repair" that you apply in the reset his barrage order.
"Unit - Order (Unit (Number of Living units in Boss Group) from Boss Group) to (SCV - Repair targeting Boss Unit) (Replace Existing Orders)"
What do you do in this line ? I don't get it. You're ordering the last added unit in the group to repair the boss ? Why not used "last created unit" then ?
Also, if you still can't find the issue I suggest applying a message after each conditions (trigger one and ifthenelse's ones) to see what's wrong in the trigger.
Btw, a protoss/zerg hybrid as a 4th race would be terrible. Protoss, Zerg, and Terran are so specific and different that it's extremely hard to come with a 4th without repeating the style of the other races. Just throwing a mix of 2 of them and calling it a race would be bad for that reason.
Imo, if you want to come with a whole new and original race, you should first focus on the lore : it's really much more important that we are led to believe. Zergs use larvas and can spawn numerous creatures at once, because of their insect-beast origin, and the whole idea of "hive" behind it. That's why their unit have a low cost, too.
Protoss are not as numerous but fierce and old and have to be teleported from their homeplanet to the fight : they have high cost and slow "construction" time.
That's only a small part of it and you can come with a whole set of reasons why lore is really important in the process of making this 4th race.
Imo, the best bet to make an original and unique 4th race would be an artificial race, like Cylons in a way. I find it a good idea since it doesn't introduce a 4th race out of the blue, but rather introduce their creation, a mecanized army that lost their maker. What come to mind first would be that they evolve and learn at high speed, but that would make it too much like the zergs. I would give them a goal : to subsist, they go from planets to planets to find source of energy or something a bit original, apart from the other 3 races' priorities.
Now I have a hard time imagining their robotic appareance without copying toss or zergs in the process.
Did you alter the model in any way or is it just wow models with wow weapons ?
In any case, I find them too much alike. To make the battlefield more "readable" all units should have specific piece of clothing or armor that makes them unique from each other while keeping the theme of their race. It's hard, but if you really can select from all the piece of armor and clothing found in wow, you should be fine.
I really don't get it. I restarted the editor 2 times and the textures just switched back to their respective place. I did the right thing not replacing the textures right away.
I did download a map with textures on it. I did not bother creating a new map and just increased its size and started the map directly on it -
Thanks for your answer Mozared. It was fun to listen to your discussion about the popularity system with prozaicmule and mephs yesterday. I don't know if that was live thought but it raised really good points -
The thread is still open if anyone have similar issues and tips to give, as the problem isn't really fix since it can come back from times to times ...
Hey, I'm making a terrain for my RPG.
I'm using a custom set of textures mixing up several tiles of the editor, mostly from the hidden ice terrain and Castanar.
Now I'm having some bugs, some more annoying than the others.
- First I can't "add textures" with most of the castanar tiles, it just doesn't work. I found a way around it some times ago, by using "replace textures" (it's better for the map weight too it seems).
- Now sometimes, when I use the "replace texture" tool, with just one click it make a large rectangular band of terrain. I usually restart the editor when I'm having this bug and it works fine.
- Now recently I've been having a problem a little more annoying. When I open my map in the editor, the texture tiles switch randomly.
It makes my whole map like this :
I just went in-game testing, and it appears the same in game. The texture just switch overnight.
Thanksfully I got the "replace texture" feature to put everything back together, but still it's extremely annoying to do that everytime you open the map.
It appears to affect tiles I recently switched. I removed one of the ice tiles to "castanar grid" to have a little diversity with indoor terrain. Now this terrain is switching with another tile "snow rough" and "niffleim dirt" (which I never switched) for some reason. It happened before with another tile, I don't remember thought.
Anyone had a similar problem or know a way out of this ?
Besides, I really hate that the company is trying to change their custom mappers community to fill into their plans.
What is happening :
What game was made by Blizzard before Starcraft 2 ? monthly paying World of Warcraft.
The whole popularity system and limits fixed in the editor was aimed at one thing : turn the ever-happy blizzard mapmaking community into hateful group of mappers trying to reach the top list by using marketing methods like advertising and casual-aimed gameplay (short, 4 players, noob-friendly games).
What I thought : this could very well be a system-based formation to prepare the mappers to actually SELL maps in the marketplace.
Why would they do that ? Income. They won't pay you, but you will make maps that will bring them income. You will get paid only by customers.
I hate it. Really, I hate that they had to do that to such a community as this one.
In my books, that's being greedy.

Thanks I'll look it up, even if I'm a bit disappointed by how they totally changed some missions (First person shooter, really? lol)

I recommend you this humorous article that has some very good points about the matter : http://www.cracked.com/article_18823_5-insane-ways-words-can-control-your-mind.html
Well, that ended being a little bit of a textblock. I hope I changed your mind :)

Not the best solution, but just in case.

Isn't there a integer or real value that calculates health percent already ?
