As many of you likely know, starcraft 2 is region-locked, meaning you cannot play with people who live in different areas. A Global Play option, similar the one in Diablo 3, will be added to Starcraft 2 in a future patch. With global play, you will be able to switch which region you are playing on, allowing you to battle with friends from across the world. You can read the full article here.
What do you guys think about this new feature? Long-overdue feature or not much of a big deal? Leave your thoughts below!

This is good news. I can see why people think it is overdue but better late than never. I think having your map exposed globally is a good thing for mappers to get recognition and makes it easier for people in other regions to enjoy your map. I am happy with the announcement.
If I understand it right, maps won't be avaiable in all servers as we once thought it would happen. Each server will keep it's own list of maps, but as we will be able to create new characters to play in other servers I believe these characters will be able to publish there too.
And it means I will have a whole lot of files to re-publish with each new update.

That's exactly what we wanted at the start, central control for publishing, not waiting for map to be be copied and published by anyone or get a EU/KR account seperately
What I am hearing is WoL will get global play around the time HoTS comes out, a few months = 3-7, HotS will come out most likely in 3-7 Months, Oh Just FYI expect NA to be the most populated server. Just as US-East was before, its just to be expected.
I like this :) people who are up at irregular hours will find it easier to find friends. Also, testing maps through the mapster irc-channel will be easier. In combination with the new game-url-links this will be really nice!
If its long overdue? perhaps, but i agree with those that thinks better late than never. There are still two expansion packs to be released - which means two bumps of player hordes coming back to play :)
@progammer: Go Yes, but it would be much easier for us if a published map would show in all servers, or in a list of selected servers. We will have to manually publish them in every single server if we want them there, and as Maverck said publishing 50+ maps manually WILL NOT be fun.
I'm not complaining about the feature itself, I had my issues with cross-server publishing and it's great that these issues will be gone, but I'll be forced to publish a whole lot of maps every time I update my mod.
*Insert rambling unintelligent uninformed mostly unrelated comment about how the 'new Blizzard' are marketing to noobs and how I'm still unhappy and leaving the game for no real reason whatsoever*
What? Blizzard hasnt been marketing to noobs, it looked like that at first glance, but what they really did was market for the pros, and balance for the pros, The campaign aside, The casual players had NO GAME to play really.
:P, And actually I could have sworn taht in 1.5 Beta, that it was NA be default but I could have been wrong, either way this is a great change in the right way.
No... I think as the 2nd best Region after Korea, Europe and Korean will be played but NA may get played cause some Koreans go there as well.. so yeah from teh point of Americans being filled with Koreans some may play there too.

Finally some training in ladder by just going to the other realm/region. Good news!
@Eimtr: Go
LOL EU server is going to become Barren, Only the NA and Korea servers will be loaded...
Thats what happened in the 1.5 Beta, Koreans and Europe both came to the NA servers. :P
@Taintedwisp: Go
...There was no NA server? There was a "Test Region" server, as with all blizzard betas (I think only D3 had seperate servers for beta)
FINALLY FUCK THE EU SERVERS

i think he was being sarcastic and mocking a group of people.
global play
i see play, not maps .. :(:(:(:(:(:(
but it's well i known that i can't read (or write) properly
