Triggering Monthly Exercise #9
Due to DarlD’s absence in posting one I figured I might as well make one for us. I’ve been considering doing this for a while, but I finally said I might as well do it now or never.
Dialog madness
That’s right, this month’s triggering is all about dialogs. The dialog must contain the following to pass:
A main menu,
at least 4 levels of menus (main, sub, sub, sub),
and the buttons on the menu actually doing something at the final stages. (ex: spawn turtles, eat faces, send messages, make useless blather)
Challenges
Make a dialog based minigame
Make a chat system that you can choose whom receives the messages
Make it mobile, let them be able to move it around their screen and hide it
Use every type of dialog able to be used by mappers (not those blizzard only ones), this means they actually have to be doing something, not sitting there looking pretty.
make a transparency widget (let your users control the transparency of the dialog)
Make it look pretty
Make it into a library
Purpose
To make you guys think outside the box, to help you become familiar with dialogs, and above all, to have fun using the editor.
Template Map
The one you feel like using, no hidden terrain though.
Little confused by what you mean at least 4 levels of menus, you mean like 4 different tabs in one large menu, or A to B to C to D to A .... (which can go forward or backward), or just several menus connected to one main menu?
Feedback might help, rather than just "ahh well, it looks pretty decent".
I think pics would have been nice, but I didn't try putting them in because I tried it before and had no luck. Can anybody try making the move command icon over one of my buttons and have it look decent?
don't make a bunch of global variables, use records that is what they are there for
Don't make a bunch of variables for the different buttons for each menu, use arrays
use action definitions to create you dialog menus, that way you have each menu separated and in a nice little orderly fashion.
Use a base action definition to create each button for the dialogs, and then use that to make it easier to add buttons to your menu. (ex: add unit action, add sound action, ask me for more details if your confused about this one.)
Add a set location button to your location menu
Make the button bar and the menu area the same width looks funny right now.
forgot to mention this earlier your tutorial buttons don't do anything, just turn them into labels.

Still alive and kicking, just busy.
My guide to the trigger editor (still a work in progress)
You should ask a mod to sticky this and update the front page.

I made a little something to start filling this up.
Have fun...
A yearly exercise? Well that should give me enough time to come up with something.
I only spent an hour on mine...a year and a month to spare!
Anyway, I know you know it's a typo, but I'll say it now, it's a typo...
...or it's an april fools joke, doubt it...

He meant tiers of dialogs.
Example: Main Menu > Options > Gameplay > Hotkeys
I just did 5 tabs and was done, I think 4 tiers of tabs is a bit too many...
Although, it is monthly...

It is a little much I might tone it done to 3 but, Also be creative for me what i'm doing (main, whisper, chat, select players)

I'm far too busy to improve on that much, but I guess I will see you in a month to see how far I managed to progress.

Even though this is pretty much over, I'll post a showcase tonight of some dialogs I've come up with. There's no new TME yet anyways :P

I thought about making one at the beginning of may, but then i recalled the enthusiastic responses to this one so i'm gonna extend it to bi monthly.
