Hello, i'm really bad in mapping ^.^. I've fun to create types of TPS games, but when its the time to create the map of my game, i always fail. Im not able to create a nice map. I just want to know if you have some links, tutorials, video, or any other kind of tips to help me... It will be appreciated. Im sure that im not alone to be really bad in mapping. ;)
For now, my map look like that. It's not very very ugly, but i think that i missed something... You can see that it isn't finished. I'll add some units and doodads maybe. However, I don't really like it. If someone have any suggestions to me, it will be much appreciated.
Nice, Looks like you have SOME talent for terraining :D, I would suggest taking up Data or Trigger Editing to go with that, both Complement it very well.
You will learn that the more you Terrain the better you will get, and Im not sure if it still goes on, but I would suggest watching Terraining Thursday, and Newbie Wednesday. Both GREAT sources
well Actually A lot of projects people Major in one area and Minor in the other two, and find teams or help. I do Terrain and Data, but I always have someone else help with triggers, or just do the triggers :P.
If you are Great with triggers in SC2, then you already have a minimum knowledge in Mapping...
Also, there's a tutorial board in these forums with tutorials on anything you might need, really.
Let's say on most you might need ;)
But the search bar usually helps for all the other problems that come around.

I'm not hugely into terraining and for sure not the one to ask, but google for Terraining Thursday and you will find all the episodes that Mozared did about terrain stuff. I don't particularly like terraining because I always need ages to adjust stuff until it looks okayish, but I found the Terraining Thursday episodes I watched really fun to watch because Mozared talks a lot about stuff like how to make nature look more realistic and not fake, what considerations to take into account etc.. Also because he is pretty talented and actually gets a lot of terrain stuff done in a relatively short amount of time :)
And it's pretty entertaining.
So if you are totally lost and have no idea why your terrain looks "wrong" in your eyes just watch them if you have time, they are worth watching (though quite time consuming at times, so watching them on a second monitor or something could be a good idea).
In my opinion your map lacks undergrowth in the forests (small bushes and the odd log/rock). With your canyon the cliffs lack contrast to the terrain texture used above and below them (although lighting angle could fix that), consider some features to make the edges stand out more?

My mapping tip? Don't forget to switch the fill texture tool back to what you had it so that your map doesn't crash when you accidentally click on something.
Happened to me like 5 times. -_-

The cliffs look bad because he didn't use in game camera to fix them.
what do you mean with that ?
I think he means change the ingame camera angle.

I think what he means is that the terrain is going through the cliffs, making it look weird. Pressing "Ctrl-T" will fix it.
