Oh gawd, had guests over yesterday and totally forgot about this. Don't tell Mozared, k? Thx.
Weekly Terraining Exercise #89
Holiday greetings, folks!
Even though I'm currently about 500 km's from home, I'm speaking to you through my German time machine called TheAlmaity, who shall upload this week and next week's WTE's while I'm away. The theme for this week will be "Micro". As per an idea by Kanitala, the idea of this theme is that you make any kind of terrain on the absolute smallest map size (32X32). It's up to you to decide what you're going to roll with: the only rule is that you do fill up all the space in the map. The idea of this WTE is that you'll get a chance at perfecting detail and terraining as compact as possible.
With that said: good luck and have fun, hope to see some interesting stuffs here once I get back!
Well, here's a quicky five minute job of an odd take on the idea... micro mapsize for a map representing a large area x). Maybe it's a tactical map of a region and I can add some markers and stuff and play with lighting to make it look a bit holographic or something...
Not sure if I'll stick with this or do another idea I have.
Ok so, I've been working on this for coulple of hours now. "You're never done in terraining" but you must give results eventually. I got a flat earth / space island where live a bunch a people doing agriculture and building stuff. An asteroid recently falled on the second part of the city devasting half the island. However, the only mountain remains untouched and as beautiful as it was with it infinite flowing water river.
There is alot of details, it could be much better than it is, but it is pretty good now. For example: I forgot the power lines, street lights and any sort of signalisation. I first started with the moutain and I absolutly loved it and it inspired me the rest of the map. I feel like it is easier to fill a small map with very small doodads, than fill a big map with very big doodads. Anyway, I suggest you to download the map and move around to see all the details ;) Oh and the blue wheels are pools to swim. If you ever watched from top a city, alot of houses have a pool.
Random fact: I can't see the minimap in the editor, it is black of doodads lol
Yeah I did feel it was perhaps cheating a bit, hence why I have another idea ;) though in fairness I did no rescaling - those are just Agria Foliage... which happen to be rescaled Agria trees by default x). It's just something that popped into my head and I did quickly to throw up here.
My other idea is.... well it's more in keeping with my original idea when I suggested this theme :)
Gurrgel> If you meen the green arrow things, changing the Display Helper Model setting should hopefully make them dissappear, or just switching to game view.
Awsome haha. But I think "texuvset 100 100" is too much. A little work around let say 30 to 60 would be better. And doing "texuvset 1000 1000" looks like Minecraft Lol.
Are there any other cool commands like this that could be usefull ? Is there a list of those somewhere?
Sup! :D Made my entry for this week. Following my previous entry to the two-worlds WTE I decided to create a park in the heart of the city. Most time I spent on getting the flowers and foliage to work out, but I think in the end I did well.
Watch them screenies so I dont spoil you! :D
Teh spoilers: Even though the areas in the front of the buildings may seem a bit empty, I wanted to keep them walkable-looking. Road is not so wide, but it can keep a tank in its boundaries. The road movement is circular, counterclockwise. If you want to copy the awesome Zerg!Flowers, I attach the map, in the upper left corner there are all the colors I used. :D Also, I throwed some cows on the rooftop so the map is full of epicness.
@Gurrgel I dont think there is a way without modifying model or actor. And I dont know how : D Even with the greens, It looks really nice, white/red/green. Anyways, I believe Kanitala as I have almost no experience in data editing. : D
@Scbroodsc2 Nice city you have there, but the roads are derped : D I like the destroyed part, the asteroid must have bounced of its area. Also, lol the blackness >:)
@Kanitala I love idea of building inside of a BioDome : D I'd throw some more textures in front of the shop.
@TheHolyArk I will :> Its awesome. Again, I love the idea of building inside a BioDome. ♥
I like the colored flowers, i love the roads, i love how you made the buildings, i love the walkway... well I love your terrain ;)
For fun, I wonder what it looks at night with lights and things like that. Play with the atmosphere =P "monrning, sun, clouds, rain, night, night rain, etc" =P
Or more specifically, the Castle That Never Was.
I couldn't find any good substitutes for parts of the castle's towers, so bear with the untextured cones and cylinders. Also, the Memory Skyscraper is in the wrong location but oh well..... XD
If you don't mind, I'll possibly modify your map to create the kind of night-rain I had in mind... What you have here is not exactly what I was hoping to see ;)
Awsome terrain there... We should make a WTE where we can only use shapes and create a whole new building out of these. The best Blocks-Castle win the WTE haha ;) Well done... your constrast with the dark background is very very...very big lol, its nearly black and white ;)

Not much of a challenge if you scale doodads/camera zoom to cover flaws in the terrain resolution.

Random fact: I used alot pictures I've made that show doodads. It is like 10 times faster to cycle through doodads and find what you want. You can find 2 pictures here: http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/development/map-development/6140-collection-of-all-doodads/#p6 and another here in the same thread: http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/development/map-development/6140-collection-of-all-doodads/#p17

Open the console and do "texuvset 100 100".
Will make your terrain look MUCH nicer.
Here we go, something I threw together during the evening today.
Also, is there no way to remove the weird looking green editor model thingies of Terrain Objects?

Could one not simply scale everything down?

There probably are some other cool ones, but I haven't found them. And no, I haven't found a list of commands :\
But at any rate, keep that texuvset command in mind, it keeps the textures like that, even in game :)
Well here's my proper entry. I dub it Snowglobe Station! Your one stop shop for fuel, guns and booze while you cruise the space lanes!
(The dome courtesy of my Empty Biodomes pack, now in the Assets section.)
Here we go...
A human town within a crystal ball toy. Have fun playing with it!

Haha a more literal Snowglobe, I like!

Firstly, nice entry :)
Second, thanks for the comments on my entry I may do that if I have some time :)

This is awsome what you got there =D <3

Thank you very much : D
I've done a night-rained city, heres the results:
If you have any ideas on how to make it more rainy go ahead ♥ : D
The World That Never Was from KH2, SC2 style.
Or more specifically, the Castle That Never Was. I couldn't find any good substitutes for parts of the castle's towers, so bear with the untextured cones and cylinders. Also, the Memory Skyscraper is in the wrong location but oh well..... XD
That looks really good! Nicely done mate.
