Lots of submissions this week! I really like what you've done there, nice one! I think all it needs to make it cooler is more detail and such, more liveliness.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions :) I'll probably still chip away at it some more, add some more SCVs and stuff about (I figure it's too hot to go out in the open without some kind of suit) I just know I'm not always too great with deadlines and wanted to make sure I didn't end up missing the end '
The trickiest part was making the bottom of the floating island not flat... I ended up using the rocks from the Space Platform Cliff Medium doodads recoloured to match the cliff texture as they were the only hanging rocks I could think of.
Speaking of the cliffs, for anyone interested they're the Space Platform Organic cliff with the New Folsom Organic cliff texture applied. Also, the lava is actually at height 0/1 - I have the lowest terrain level hidden, place the islands, then use the terrain height tool to raise it up. This also means it appears higher than other cliffs (can't do overlap though sadly )
I'm not trying to brag, just thought the technique could be useful for others too :) you can also do it to make raised platforms like oil platforms with a bit of creative use of doodads to make the supports (even though it seems HotS is adding a cliff like that heh)
Thanks.
I probably could've done it better if I used a few Aiur building doodads instead though. The Feel Good tower looks abit wierd near the top because of those funky windows hah.
Blizz really needs to add a function to skew models without having actually edit the model itself.
Well, there is the regular old 'increase the Z axis'. But yeah, some more functionality wouldn't hurt - though I'm not sure how hard that'd be to make.
Usually, yup. It's not forbidden to make a new thread to show off your creation or such if you're a bit late, though - the main idea is that we have a 'current' event going on.
Well here's my final version. General notes: Following Mozared's advice I added more life and more little details. There's now more SCVs going about their business, Merc guards er.. guarding and even Da Boss overseeing the loading of minerals onto the Dropship. I added some indication of the inhabitation within the islands and I also added the Goblin Quartermaster Decal on the ground as it seemed somehow appropriate as a logo for a mining contractor. Also, health and safety got onto them so they put safety fences to stop people falling into the lava (plus you know, it's really hard to find good help!)
Hey great map Kanitala. I finally learned how to add mining chamber correctly. Need to add terrain object + doodad. Or learned to use terrain objects in general :)
Thanks :) and which mining chamber do you mean? Either way, happy if I've helped you with something
Heh... funny story with my Floating Island... I originally intended to use the Redstone tileset but picked New Folsom instead by accident and I think it worked out for the best ^^
That's just... so nice, Kani. The only real improvements I can think off on that would be to add some more texture play in some specific areas, but it really looks pretty suave as is already texture-wise. You should put that up in the assets section, I'm sure someone could use that terrain and I'd love to see it playable.
Seeing as how I just noticed these were your first posts (I think?), nice entry work, and welcome to Mapster :)
Thanks :) concerning texture play I know I didn't do much on the background mountains and terrain, but anywhere else in particular?
As for the assets section, thanks again it means a lot to me coming from you (I actually used to go around WC3c a bit as Xaran Alamas and I vaguely remember your name but I'm afraid I can't recall your terrain specifically... then again it was a long time ago ).
As for making it playable, I might do that myself... no idea what sort of map mind you (I have no idea why this text is smaller)
Well, going from that first overview picture you posted, the area in the back left seems to have just one texture without too much variation. Did you have a Medivh icon on WC3C? The name seems familiar. I didn't think of any kind of map specifically, but some kind of fun little map where you defend the base untill you reach a certain amount of harvested minerals seems fun. Or a small RPG or such.
It's a nice start, but what you need is a bit less repetition. Right now it's one idea used over and over again. Try and put some more different zones into your terrain, like Kanitala did up here. Some of your ideas are interesting though, like the holding clamps for landing buildings.
As for the background mountains, yeah I did neglect them a bit texturewise... the latter half of the week got a bit busy so I ended up focusing more on the er focus the main islands and didn't have time to pretty up the background. Maybe I shall though. Also just noticed the odd bug I got of on the overview the decals in front of the landing platforms seemingly stretching a bit strangely, even when close up they're normal.
Anyhoo I must say I had a lot of fun and I'm glad I decided to give the WTE a go :)

@sgtnoobkilla:
For some reason, this reminds me of a cartoon called Dragon Hunters...
Oh, I meant to say Sgtnoobkilla, I LOVE the doodad built tower you have there :)
Nope. It's....
DING DING DING DING!

Thanks for the suggestions! Hahah it does look like a planet haha!

Too bad... Still it looks like The Islander environment ;)

This ends on Monday right? I'm not going to be able to get my other idea done but am polishing my current entry and just wanted to check :)

There's also a bot who's found a new friend :)

Yes! Right on time! I found out I had time to do some terraining at campus, so here is my submission. This time it has pictures.
So basically, it's an abandoned Xel'Naga ship that has been taken over by Terrans. Note the turrets, 'cruisers, and terran awesomeness.
\power overwhelming\, -Teh LOLcatz!!1!
Aw gosh. Moar pictures. As you can probably tell, I'm still learning how to use the camera.
List of improvements:
1. Obivously, human life, like War Pigs and Civilians and Scientists and Goliaths.
2. More ship diversity like Vikings and Banshees
3. More textures
4. Islands aside from the Xel'Naga ship
Uploaded the map too. Please feel free to make comments.
EDIT: That proves the ship flies.

Ah yes I did have a Medivh avatar for a while :)
