For this week, I wanted to try something completely new for the theme. Focused around the idea of "Opposites Attract", this week's exercise will again be a joint one. How will it work? Simple: one person makes a post here saying they are working on the map. Once they are done, they edit their post and upload it. Afterwards, another user can post and take it. The concept is that this time, I want you guys to make completely opposing terrains on the same map that still somehow blend together. Say the first person creates a fiery lavascape; I want the second person to add in a snow texture and put up a huge ice wall separating a tundra from the lavascape. A third person may interpret the ice wall as 'being full of water' and add a desert as an opposite to that.
The challenge will be in making sure the terrain as a whole flows and isn't simply 'a bunch of mini-terrains bunched up against each other'. You can get this done, and you deserve an A for terraining. The first person to reply will be allowed to put up the first map for others to work with.
I may have something similar but more fun for you guys next week, or in two weeks if this is succesful.
SCBroodSC2 and I are going to do one together on this one.
I know it is told that it's more everyone working together, but I think the idea of teaming up can be more encouraging and less complicated. So I'm thrilled to see what we're going to come up with...
Alright so to give an idea of what me and lucid are working on turn by turn... The 2 first pictures are what he handed to me. Then I went crazy mode on texturing and terrain heigh tool. It's not yet over ;)
Here is the lastest update Lucid did. I would have continued but we're monday so new wte except if Moz decides to extend... but i guess a new one would be more interesting.
I really want to start doing this each week because terraining is the major stopping block for me getting into making something. I don't even know where to start! I'm going to dabble a bit then maybe submit something terrible looking for next week.

Visit my channel where I showcase custom content! Send me a PM or respond to my YouTube thread if you'd like to see your map/s on my channel (eventually!)
To start, I suggest you focus on something small, not even a whole scene or a whole terrain. Just think of a very small area and try to detail it as much as possible. Like, create a new map 32x32 (smallest) and maybe do a parking lot, with decals, roads, cars, streetlight, etc. and just focus on that speceficly. Once you get the mood of how it works, extend it a little bit further, maybe make a building next to that parking, maybe make a small district place.
Try to use few doodads in an original way, like the way they were not meant to be used. And.. use the All Doodad site to search through visually. It goes much faster when you don't know the doodads' name by heart.
Oh and, I really hope you will participate, the more we are the more fun it is :D
Weekly Terraining Exercise #244
Hey again folks!
For this week, I wanted to try something completely new for the theme. Focused around the idea of "Opposites Attract", this week's exercise will again be a joint one. How will it work? As always, good luck & have fun!

You've just given me an idea for this week's WTE. The theme I'm gonna post now should be excellent for you to step in, Jay!
