This week, something more interesting in an attempt to steal some attention away from the joint-terraining exercise thread. Credits go to happy04 for the idea - I don't think this is exactly what he had in mind, but I played with his idea a little bit to fit my means.
Weekly Terraining Exercise #10
This week's theme is going to be "Hellas", or for people unfamiliar with the more original name of the place, "Greece". What I want you to do is make up a terrain that you reckon fits the landscape of Greece. Do not look up any pictures, just go with the idea you have in your head the Greece looks like. Once you've finished, look up those pictures and see how close you got to it. I'm curious to see how well people here know what parts of the lovely country.
Plain, simple, pretty much nothing to it. Just in my experience, not from greece but italy, small towns here and there. Cosy, and always lots of work being done. No implemented crowds but its always a very lively night scene.
First video I've done, this really isn't anything special. This was all done in about a half hour. More speed up's like this coming soon!!
This is my first Weekly Terraining Exercise, and I hope to do more in the future. Anyway, mine isn't that good, I only spent 15 minutes on it, but I wanted to not make it so glorified Greece like I remember seeing. I made a sort of country side part of it instead, I decided not to go the giant cliffs way.
P.S. I'm not that good of a photographer so, lol just look at what you get.
been slacking a bit with theise topics, but this one I found enjoyable never been to greece, but been to Italy/spain.. so I guess it is italy + alot of palms.
in any case a little coastal village on the side of a mountain.
I also went with the ancient Greek theme. I immediately thought of a scene from Troy when Brad Pitt is training his cousin in some ruins so I tried to create a similar setting.
Duuuuude that's really sick! Can I see more screenies? Or maybe dl the map for a closer look?
EDIT: Though this is extremely awesome, you might wanna cover up the edges of the giant stone slab you used for the ground in the picture. It looks kinda awkward. And also the pillars on the right are hanging off the edge a little bit.
Thanks for the feedback, didn't even notice the pillar was off but then again my attention to detail sometimes just isn't there. I'd be glad to give you the map, but I'm not sure how to share the file. My best guess would be to use rapidshare?
Anyway, I tweaked it a little with the temple ground.
It looks a lot better now. I think you can find the map file and add it as an attachment. That's for future reference. You don't have to do so now if it's too much of a hassle x]
If you update your post you can select add attachment and then put your map file into that. Then simply press update and it'll be a link at the bottom of your post to download the map.
I'll work more on it later, i like the idea.
Ps : Sorry for the map lighting didnt had time to change it either.
And yes, i will lower the temple :P
EDIT :
I worked a bit on Duncs878's map, sry for the low graphic.
Took me less than 30 min :)
-> Oups i see grass underwater, didnt saw it before. I must use low graphic in all options to play with the editor without lagging, so there is things like grass in the water i forget to look at.
It's a pretty simple process to add a skybox. Open up the data editor and look in the terrain texture set tab. Get which ever map tileset you are working on and then look for the box that says Background Model Fixed. There are a bunch of skyboxes in ther, you just have to search a while to find them.

I know nothing about Greece, culturally or geographically D: But I'm excited to see what people cook up.
So am I, but so far nobody seems to give a shit. So far for my new experimental theme =P
ill try at this b back in 40 mins or more Edit:there a nice little picture of Greece i didn't go in2 specifics but some 1 can add if they want =D
i thought this was kind of fun, but more people would possibly post some pictures if they were to redesign their own country, anyway here goes:

Oh hey 'sup guys, Mozared you should PM me these new threads at least. I guess I'll cook up some more crappy temples.

Impressive and beautiful, i like it alot.
(Exept for some object scale, like the soccer ball etc)
I wish i could be good as you are :)
My first try ever to do some terraining:
Greece meets Aiur
Hope someone can help me how to add a sky??
@Khalan3 :
I like it, but maybe you should try better camera positionning. Too much water and flat view.
For the sky, i was wondering the same thing, maybe Duncs.
