Hullo everybody! I've got a more restricted project for this week - one that should nevertheless be interesting!
Weekly Terraining Exercise #37
Without any particular reasoning, this week I wanted to introduce a more restrictive theme to see what people would come up with if they went for roughly the same look. Thus, this week's theme will be Jungle Basin. What I mean by this is "A low-ground jungle basin surrounded by high ground". You'll have to use a lot of fog to show a jungle's humidity, and reasonable tree placement to make the whole thing look good. Feel free to go wild in how exactly you implement the basin otherwise.
Curious to see what folks will come up with again! :)
Ok well sorry for the double but this is separate. I was working on a project that ended up looking good for this. It isn't finished, not nearly. I wanted to show you what I did so far as proof of concept. I'm not even going to ask for feedback at this point with it. So much more to do still.
I started working on a new video that will show up some terraining I've done. So, here are my pictures. I made 3 differents caus they are not exacly what it was ask. But it is what I wanted to do for my video.
First picture shows the sea with the sun (with some imagination). I have not found a nice background to fit with it so I use this weird wall and that's it. The second one I tryed to copy a picture found on the net: http://www.photo-pixel.eu/paysage-feerique/paysage-feerique.jpg It is not that bad but.... xD And the 3th one is the greatest pictures of those. The camera movement inside the map is very nice but I haven't done a video yet. My fall is pretty nice ^^

Good start. What I'd start with in your situation is the waterfalls. Use one or two broadened waterfalls, then fill the holes up with small ones if needed. Not ten small ones in a row, it ruins the picture. After that, fiddle with the texture to mix stuff up, and then add some more doodads (preferably rocks :D).
The ramp-waterfall is actually a pretty interesting technique. I like it a lot, but it feels unpolished. Add trees behind those LOS blockers, perhaps some ruins and rocks, and then fiddle with the textures a bit (get in sprays of dirt and different types of grass). Then add fog.
Your jungle basin looks decent, albeit a bit empty. I like your use of the shrunken rock pillar. The other two terrains I don't like at all - easily the worst I've seen you do, Brood, sorry to say =P.
Funnily enough, that - statue + waterfall & river is pretty much what I had in mind when setting up this tutorial. It's amusing somebody got so close to my idea. Overall I think you can improve this 'shrine' by adding some more temple doodads and fiddling with the doodads, but as it is it's interesting nevertheless.
U want rocks? You'll get rocks! Of course I have not been feeling amazing so I'll try to do more tomorrow depending how I feel. Thank you for telling me about the waterfalls. I'll see what I can do.

I would like too add :
Rain
Low water
I used this a little bit for a more swampy environment. I feel water is really under-used, but it's really a powerful tool too use.
My Try

Haven't i seen that before? :)
I'm no good with cameras so I'll need to do lots of work to fill in areas. I feel like trying this. Don't hold your breath though.

Working on projects:
This will become a cortex map once other projects are done. so, not until awhile (unless some one else has a use for it).
rather a deciduous mess than a low jungle basin. oh well
edit: Haven is a jungle, so i guess u could count this as a jungle..valley

Meh, I'm not sure how good this is. But here goes:
Feedback time!

Looks fairly decent, but you need to set your video settings to max when taking screenshots. The low quality ruins your pictures.

That is definitely not what I had in mind, but it looks cool. It's hard to note improvements though... it really feels kind of finished. Nice job!

That's more of a creepy swamp you have there, but it's a really nice terrain as well! I like the greenish tint and the ravens setting the scene.
