Thanks guys, Now that I'm through with textures (I think), I started working on the animations. I fixed the ones it already have, and added placeholders for burrow/unburrow and unload.
@TheTorrasque: Go I'm not sure, this one is very different from the SC1 version and I don't think that changing the carapace to be team colored will be enough.
@TheAlmaity: Go Hey Maity! Have you tried the models in my PM? I want to showcase Spouncy here! But first you have to try it and tell me if you are going to use it.
EDIT: So Maity checked my PM. Here's Spouncy (Sponge + Bouncy), a model I created for their Starmon map. The inspiration was Corsola, a water+rock type of Pokémon. Maity thinks it should be blue because of its type, and that is should have eyes and maybe a mouth. And he also wants an evolution for it.
I completely agree on everything but blue. While orange dosent fit I dont think blue eill either. Maybe blue and white? Or polka dot. Look atbreal coral for an idea too.
@JacktheArcher: Go Well, a quick google on sea sponges reveal a wide range of colors, including blue. But as a biologist myself I've seen some orange/red sponges, and I thought it would look more lively and tropical. It also looks more dangerous, I've seen some toxic red sponges. The idea is to have 2 forms, each with a unique color. I also plan some marine growth on the evolved form.
And I'm also working on more doodads, mostly for Starmon right now. AlMaity asked for some beach doodads and I started with a nice umbrella. As Always I try to avoid using custom textures whenever I can, and I managed to do it with this one.
@handclaw102: Go Which parts you think should be gray? Have you seen Mr
Jack's concept? The model is totally based on that great piece of art, I
dont want to stray from it too much.
Hey, so, took me a bit longer to reply on that. '
Well, my initial idea was to make all of the carapace gray/blackish similar to the roach, but I tried out how it looked like via photoshop, and to be honest, I don't think it works. So nevermind on that. '
@handclaw102: Go Good suggestion, unfortunately I need to be logged in order to comment, and maybe I had an account at some point but I can't remember :-(
I finally finished another model for the SC1 remake: the High Templar. I changed the shape of the shoulder pads, removed the amulet on the head and cape, and changed the emissive to cyan. Team colors were also changed.
EDIT: I created an account on Deviant Art and commented on Phill Gonzales' page about the Defiler, and he said he had already seen this thread! A guy from Blizzard found it and told him about it!

@handclaw102: Go As I said I created an account and made the comment. I added some of my SC2 models to the gallery and Phill is my first 'watcher'! He said its inspiring to see the love for old units and my effort to finish the Defielr model.

Gah, totally missed the edit >,<' So, congrats on that! ^^
That umbrella looks awesome :) Some color variations possible maybe? A beach would look a bit dull if all umbrelas were red.
As for the sponge - Blue/white was what I kind of had in mind when I said blue, but now that you mention it some dangerous looking red might look pretty cool as well (Can keep spouncy the color it is now and change its evolutions color to red?)
Great work though :) And cool to see that a blizzard guy likes your work
@TheAlmaity: Go An easy way to have multiple colors is to make it team colored, and add events to the actor that randomly sets a team color every time the doodad is created.
So orange for basic sponge and red for the evolved form? I'm still thinking about how I'm going to make the eyes.
@DrSuperEvil: Go In the concept art they have a single pair of eyes. They seem to be facing the sides, but I only used the basic diffuse that came with HoTS, no changes beyond coloring it.
Tentacle monster? I don't think I've seen this one, unless it was with another name.
@handclaw102: Go Ohhh that one. I had seen it but didn't know the name. Yes I plan to work on that one too. As it has similarities with the classic queen model I might give them the same animations.
In my opinion This defiler don't must be Smiler to the sc 1 models. If you want sc 1 Defiler use Gna's Defiler. This is the HoTS version and it must be like Hots, brand new, you know. Just my opinion. When do you release it ?

Ohhh thank you, it looks better now. Model with old values on the left and new values on the right.
Muuch better!
Will you make all team colored carapace like the original in SC1?
@SoulFilcher: Go
It looks sooooo f** disgusting! :)
Just by looking at it it gives me the creeps
@SoulFilcher: Go
Yup, that did it! Looks awesome now :)

Of course, you could actually try to ask the creator of that model himself for advice any time. He talks quite openly with the community on deviantart about his work. You could simply show him a screenshot of your texture right here.
Either way, I like the most recent version. ^^

With the defiler they has more than a single pair of eyes and they were nor facing forwards but to the sides.
Also consider working on the tentacle monster and zerg artillery unit models since those lack any animations/attachment points.

It's the actual model name of the right one here
