Just a game that's been wandering about in my head, and I've decided to finally post it on here so maybe someone can pick it up, and make this idea a reality.
So here's the idea, the basic PvP format, or possible team format in which individuals are given or have chosen a random unit from a round to round basis. During which, the unit isn't given the typical characteristics and properties that it would normally have. For example, a colossus with burrow, or a queen with cloak, or say a zergling with prismatic beams. Something that would keep people on their toes, exploring their creativity and tackling the biggest challenge: the unknown. I'm envisioning an arena, where 4-5 participants per round fight, each with 1-2 units containing 1-2 abilities from other units (outside of just detector abilities). An arena with endless possibilities, with high ground, and shrubbery to hide in. Different lighting fixtures for different time increments within the arena. Or even an elimination chamber type of situation, in which every given 30 seconds or so a new participant enters.
This is something that I'd honestly want to play, and would look forward to the challenge. There could even be weekly or daily tournaments in which people participate and the best of the best, those who can master the unknown, can really shine.
It doesn't seem too difficult to make, and I would LOVE for someone to take on this project and let the community have a blast, with an all new and original concept, that makes arcade more challenging.
Such heavy randomness in a PvP game is not recommended. Even if most of the choices are balanced people will always blame their loss on the "RNG" even if it is not true.
The best you can do is have randomness as an element that affects everyone equally. For example ability powerups that randomly spawn but at fixed locations balanced for reach by both teams. Making the PvP aspect based on randomness will probably result in a low popularity map as people will not find it competitive enough.

Anyone up for the challenge?
Anyone?
Sounds very difficult for the way the data editor works. You'd probably just have to make multiple versions of the same unit.

Not really. You could give all the abilities to each unit then use buffs to enable certain ones.

It's an interesting concept but I feel like the balancing issue would be the hardest part to it.

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry for the delayed response. Kinda gave up after seeing no responses for a long, long time.
